I recently switched back to Lineage from playing World Of Warcraft. I don't know if anyone has played WoW, but if you have, then I'm sure you've heard of a Hunter. Basically, a hunter is an Archer with a pet. This raises a question to me.
Would it be worthwhile for an Archer in Lineage II to buy/obtain a wolf pup and level it up as a tank?
I've never seen anyone doing that, but... it seems like a good idea. To me, at least.

Completly impocible. Wolf gets tiny pdef, even in a good armor. It can be killed in a feww hits even by equal or little lesser lvl mob (exept may be for realy high lvl wolfs, then it may take a bit more ;)) Wolfs are pure dd's.
YOu may probalby atempt it with a wind hatchling, but never with wolf.
Nope Wolf is a damage dealer nothing more. He cant tank for you. If u need a tank get a wind hatch.
My wolf takes about 6-7 hits before he dies now when the mob is the same lvl as him. If he gets crits or magic attaks he will get killed faster.
Sorry to say winds don't tank very well with no healer, especially without armor which is very expensive (top =~12M). It can be done but only with lots of hp pots or resting.
Maybe one of the new pets would help you more, they seem better for ranged classes. You can start the quests at lvl 24(buffalo), 25(bird), and 26(cougar), it requires a ~500k Dg weapon for the quest but you dont need to buy them gear. They give you small, ~25hp at first, heals but they spam them. The new pets dont need to hit the mob to level but just take 10% of your xp (1-hit kill to anything though keep them out of the fray).
They are cute too ;)
why is wind hatchling better than wolf for tanking as far as pets? i thought Star hatchlings had more HP, defense and a hate skill for special? or has that changed since my hatchling i had in C2/C3? if i remember right it was a Star hatchling i had, and used it as a tank for my lowbie alts below 20 so they didnt have to buy NG armor lol

Just wanted to correct you. They heal for 26 hp starting out ^^ atleast the baby cougars do.
Upon re-reading the thread, I see the OP is talking about using an archer to level the pet. I think that'll be a problem if the archer tries to kite, because moving pets can't attack any better than moving melee. Fido/Dino will just slide along behind the mob, maybe getting one or two bites in.
keep in mind it only takes a few hits for the wolf/pet to get exp from the kill.
that said, you dont need it to completely kill the mob, you just need it to finish the mob off. so if youre an archer, royally smite that beast to within an inch of its life then let the wolf do all the talkin. no need for SS.
this is why healer leveling his pet on undead using the repose/lightshow skills is so effective.
