So I tried my hand at beast taming the other night and was rewarded a full grown buffalo assistant for my efforts. It was all going great until i crashed teleporting. I sighed knowing that my new pet was gone and turned back towards the wild beast pasture to get a new one. Much to my surprise no matter how hard I tried I never seemed to be able to get the adult buffalo to become tame again.
Can taming an animal fail and I just got really lucky to have it work my first time? Is it normal to have to burn over 100 food to tame a beast? Did I just get the shaft because I crashed instead of a normal logout and the game didn't understand that my beast was gone?
Maybe you're on to something, with your last option. Me and my friend tried taming beasts on the PTS, and we used maybe 10-15 per try. Taming CAN fail, but you'll know it, by looking at the icon that tells you how many xHP it has. Now I can't remember how many it has when it fails...I think it's x6? Then you just have to kill it, and try again.
Does anyone know if they changed how long the tamed beasts stay on live server? On PTS it wasn't near worth the hassle. They'd disappear half way back to town, or when you SOE'd. Unless you plan to hunt in the area, I wouldn't bother. But of course, everyone should try it once, just to have done it :)
