So ive been away for a good six months and man has the map grown. Ive just started hunting with my highest lvl char, a lvl 42 warsmith and want to know if anyone has any suggestions for good places to hunt for "good" drops at my level.
I know drops in general are rare but im looking for either high d grade or low c equipment or equipment mats to use for crafting. Since ill be solo id also like to avoid areas that have high chances of running into pk's or alliances who have laid claim to certain areas.
The game seems to have changed quite a bit since i was last here and any info would be much appreciated. I worked hard to lvl 3 chars to 40 before being able to afford good equipment and dont want to run out guns blazing just to get knocked dead in a second because i went to the wrong place.
Also, pets seem to have becme much more desirable. Any suggestions for what kind to get for a dwarf and how to get it.
Fettered souls, perhaps? They are between Hardin's Academy and the bridge at the north end of Death Pass. Go to Hunter's Village and pick up the hunting quest there to maximize your money. Fetters drop SoR blades and (if you have been a good feller) SoRs.
Just remember that Fettereds are double hp mobs, so they kill a bit slower than their counterparts. They also happen to be in the same area as grandis which are agro (I've been hunting this area lately).
Fettered Souls are trash IMO. I leveled my BH on em for a while. I ended up with a whole bunch of Elven Jewelry mats and a crap load of garbage recipes.
However, if you seed them, you should make it out quite well assuming you can sell the crops back each time.
Thanks for the advice. I went to hunters and started doing the guild quests which are fantastic imo.
Ive gone to places and killed things i never knew existed because of this quest. I suggest to anyone a little bored with the grind and are able to do the song of hunter quests do so, its made me not even look at my xp bar for an entire level.
Fettered Souls are now my favorite monsters and are also responsible for my first d-grade full weapon drop. A SoR :).
Tried the timac orcs for a few go's. Swept a blessed c spiritshot recipe (with a warsmith not scav mind you). But other than that those orcs have not been good to me, dropping anything very rarely.
Hunters valley monsters gave a few top end d armors parts, there are these spiders named kronobe or something similar that i hope to get a quest to kill. They have an interesting listing of known drops i wouldnt mind farming.
ty, i couldnt believe it myself. The thing was almost dead so i looked away to tip the ash of my smoke and looked back to see a sword laying on the ground. I wish i would have got a ss of it lying there but i freaked thinking someone might appear out of thin air a grab it :). Got ss of the message only.
Going to try enchanted valley next for monstereye somethings. Never been there yet.
Another bit of adivce. there is this coin collector quest in hunter town. Do it as soon as lvl allows. Bring Soul/spirit shot and greater heals, instant heals are also a good idea and maybe a bsoe. The guys you have to kill to get the quest item are much higher level than you if you do this quest when your level allows you to. Once you finish it you will start getting blood medusa's and gold wyvern coins for timak orcs. These things are worth a good bit. The orcs drop s**t other than amulets. Might be good to seed these things judging from my drops from them so far (500 of them at least)
To start the Coin of Magic quest, you have to kill Harits, Matriarch or Shaman, to get the initial coin. Not a 100% drop either.
If you have any way to slow the Matriach, and have a bow, she is the easiest. Slow, SS-Twang, retreat, SS-Twang, repeat....
If you decide to take the Shaman, realize that they have a very nasty range attack, but a melee attack at about 1/4 of the range damage. They are not aggro, so get up close to an isolated one, fire up the SS, and melee, spamming health pots. You CANNOT try to run away, as their range attack will drop you.
Oh.. The Matriarchs respawn very quickly, 18 seconds or so. Don't try to melee a Shaman if anyone is killing Matriarchs anywhere nearby. If one respawns next to you.. well...
Yeah, personally I go with matriarchs and the best tactic I found (which is the same to use against anything that's really higher level than you are) is to consider it as a pvp fight.
As a nuker, go with sleep / nukes. As a melee, use potions, stuns and lots of skills (since skills never miss, as opposed to regular attacks that miss a lot against red mobs). Archers should try to kite them while making sure you don't get more aggro.
dont forget you can go to south west of HV and hunt the bugbears and the orcs there, they drop brig helm and shield mats, a very nice way to make some money if you can craft 1. i think i might even have a recipe, if you need, just pm me on the boards.
Taik Orc Archers drop top D grade parts and Taik Orc Warriors drop Half Plate tempers and Plate gaiter parts(they also have a better adena drop rate than other mobs they're level)...
They're in FoM.
And you already know about the Kronbe Spiders, they got pretty much the same loot pool as the Taik Orc Archers....
Good luck with the coin quest, you'll need it...
Thank you all for your help. The hunters quest has become like crack to me and im leveling like mad. I made the mistake of doing the lvl45 2nd circle quest and now old tor is only giving me quests that are against stuff much tougher than me.
But i was able to check out all sorts of new areas and now know some places that i can farm and should make some money. My only c items are comp armor, fp boots and gloves plus my +3 anger mace so im needing to upgrade bad.
TY for the offer of the brig help recipe but i have that one already. Believe it or not ive had unusually good luck spoiling things with my warsmith. Maybe only one out of every 20 but usually when spoil works, i get something good.

I made the same mistake, look for the Rotting Tree(lvl 43) quest, your probably getting close enough level to do them.
They are in the Sea of Spores....
If you try it, bring Haste pots, a couple of the mobs there, have a speed reduction spell...
