Hello! I was in the game last night when I was told by many people to go with Necromancer if I liked PvP, then someone said HE or TH. I got all of these responses and I was starting to get a little bit upset because I am very bad with being indecisive and all of the sudden I am doubting my character.
I had planned on going Gladiator, then I was told bad thing about tanks so I started to go with DA when I was told to do differently again.
I don't mind using a magic class or a melee class. What I want is a class that is at a middle ground. Good in groups and good at PvP, leaning towards being better at PvP than groups.
Could I get some suggestions? (Any will work, I don't mind using a new race, ect.)
If it helps, my playstyle is more of a speed/defense person. I love arc weapons (bows, ranged, ect.) However I am up to trying something completely new! Thank you in advance for any help!
Well, my advice is always "do what makes you happy", but that probably doesn't help right now. I will say to ignore the naysayers and do what you're comfortable with. However, it looks like the things that you prefer just happen to be very good in L2:
my playstyle is more of a speed/defense person. I love arc weapons (bows, ranged, ect.)
Archer. Probably HawkEye, but definitely look at the archers. Ranged class, focus on speed and decent defenses.
Good at PvP, pretty good in PvE. Fun in groups, but able to solo now and then.
any ranged class gets some great damage at higher levels. but the cost is tremendous.
i have therefore always loved the dagger class. critical hits are 6x as opposed to other melee which can go from 2x to 4x and their strength and speed are still untouchable.
especially in the Dark elf AbyssWalker, you get big bad critical power.
with the light elf Plainswalker, you get speed, and fast hitting and lots of criticals.
in the human dagger class, the crits are slightly lower, but still potent, and they get average speed but lots more health.
if tattooed properly, you can make a Dark elf much better than a human.
dont be fooled, duals may look good, but they dont do the damage you would expect. so gladiator really isnt an option.

Really sounds like that's your class.
I had considered Hawkeye, and I may still, but I was wondering if you could give me some comparisons of all the different archer classes (each race). I appreciate it! (Humans are so~ slow is one reason why I might not go with Hawkeye)
And behold gentlemen... the root of it all: "I want to play but I don't want to lose, I want to be on the safe side."
No offense man, this game isn't about 1on1 pvp; it's alliance wide PvP and you could always find a role to fit.
Any class can look gimped given the adequate atmosphere... a mage hunting in a group 10 levels above him is gonna look underpowered.
Tell you what: Archers and mages are what you are looking for, but they are costly to sustain at all levels. Go Elven for speed, Dark Elven for attack power, Human for the middle ground; orcs and dwarves won't satisfy you.
My sugestion would be to play whatever stye you like playing. I always liked playing mele with duel wield weapons. All the games I played before this one thats what I played.
My first toon on l2 was a glad. I had alot of fun up tell B grade then it got so expensive. Also I I died alot in PvP everyone kept saying when you get this lvl or this lvl you will kick *** well it never got any better. But PVE it was a fun char to play.
I had never played a mage before in any game. But in L2 a nuker is a blast. Easy to solo PvE good at PvP and not to expensive to outfit. I also have low LvL DE fighter who may some day grow up to be a PR. Archers are fun but not really my favorite play stile, I lvl him when im tired of the grind on my nuker helps to mix it up a bit.
Mess around with some low lvl toon try them all it doesnt take long to get to lvl 10-15 and you can get a little idea of how different races work.
Just have fun with it. Just a little hint PVE will be 90% of the game for you tell your higher lvl. I wouldnt worry about pvp right now.
speed and defense typically do not go hand in hand except with Sword Singer and depending on how you look at "being good for PvP" SwS can go either way. SwS are great in PvP in the sense that they help the group TREMENDOUSLY when singing the correct songs (which can be a difficult choice in itself) and that they can be effective with a bow due to naturally (and buffed) high accuracy, speed, and critical rate but they do not get the range true archers get, and even daggers got a bit of range on them with a bow. But SwS are in no way a true killer on the field, but we do have our moments like when we crit 9+ times in a row :).
But SwS are a VERY 'middle ground class' as in we can tank, buff, and even be an efficient DD due to crit rate and attack speed. With full buffs, Focus SA, and hitting mobs from behind I would say we crit 1/3 of the time and with buffs like Death Whisper, Dance of FIre, and Blessing of Queen critting that much dishes out excellent damage even with our low STR/patk.
