Alrite, so me and my bro are leveling...he just turned 52 today. He is a shillen elder. We are up there in EV leveling on Elders. He has full BW set with a homunk +5 and accumen on it...anyways around 1700 health...I was killing something and a liele elder hit him for 4500...Liele Elder hit you for 4507 damage....WTF is up with this game. I have NEVER played a game that the healer goes down in one shot with a reg mob hitting him. One mob hits him one time and bam he's dead. That's such bs and now I'm just mad...how is a healer suppose to even play like this? L2 needs to fix this crap...A healer should get 1 hit of 1400 max at this level and atleast have a chance to him/herself...not die in one shot...uggohh you grabbed one aggro mob on accident, your dead...lol wtf is up with this? I'm an orc destroyer and I'm always trying to protect him and he usually just heals me, unless he gets really bored. Usually when he gets hit it is for 1400 but he has been hit a few times at 4500 at level 49-52 and I think it's just so rediculas. All his skills are maxed....so wtf is the deal?...
Either he has no jewels on or the mobs you were fighting against got a lucky magic crit. Doesn't happen often but it certainly is an unpleasant surpise.
Now that I think of it-- because your brother is a healer and your main is a destroyer... do you know what a magic crit is? ^.^
well ye I figured it was a crit but jeeze, that much? a crit shouldn't be thattt much....funny thing is...from a mob before that one the same kindof mob..liele elder hit him 4 times "he had to heal all 4 times before I got to helping him" for 1k each hit...
Even though he's a mage and in every game they wear cloth, or they have alot less defense...but the thing is they shouldn't die from a crit from a Mob that is a non-player for 4,000 damage....one hit down....ah well just sucks.
I got crited for 1780 dmg with my BO set (im a nuker-so i got TONS of magic defence) on lvl 60+.It was a magic crit from a high lvl mob but my total HP is lower than that<.<
I really think NCSoft should make magic crits 50% better chance and 50% less dmg but i guess its just me...
One time i was in a AOE party. The BD was flagging around for fun and i decided to test my aura flare on her.Too bad i got wild magic buff on me+empower+her own dance.Guess what?Magic crit for 4k dmg on her (BD got magic defence passives). It sure sux<.<
First off what jewlery does he have on. Sounds like its D grade jewlery or some C grade. Now upgrade the SE's jewlrey as soon as you can. If you already have full set of BO then its just bad luck. Get use too it it's going to happen from time to time. Its called a magic crit. They are rare but they hurt. It's part of the game. Many of us have died to magic crits in this game. Just be glad it was PVE there's nothing worse than being 1 shot by a nuker in pvp.
as far as i know, magic crits are very rare and cause 4x damage while melee crits are common and cause 2x damage... your only choice in this case is buy your brother some magic defense: better jewelry or enchant the jewelry you already have.
lol anyways...he went ahead and bought the BO set and put it on and let's see how much it helps. I use to play World of Warcraft before L2 so don't be too harsh on me...I'm just not use to dying in one shot and he's not either...It's harsh to mobs that are the same level as you =/
as far as i know, magic crits are very rare and cause 4x damage while melee crits are common and cause 2x damage...
actually critical melee attacks are linked to critical range
on mobs and archers that could easily be 3x damage
think getting 1 hitted is bad for a healer?
wait till you are a dwarf with 4k+ hp and see....
mobx hit you for 2500 damage
moby hit you for 2000 damage
im not kidding that happened to me last week 2 crits in 2 hits next melee hit me for 200 damage and i dropped like a rock
keep in mind im wearing full A grade jewles and fighting mobs that con white and yellow
It happend also to my brother, he's a lvl65 SH and we played at the bottom of GC, and one 1 mob give my brother also a crit hit for like 6000damage, wham in 1 sec my brothers lvl65 Sh was dead. he has +3 Blackore jewel set
In C3 I had more than a few experiences of getting magic crit twice in a Aura Flare spam session.
Even now in C4 I was fighting some mobs and got hit for a little over 3k damage and I had like 800 mdef at the time since I didn't have Song of Warding up.
Magic crits seem to be alot more common in C4. When exping with a SH, without Wildmagic, she critted 6 times in our 2 hour session. That is _alot_ since in C3 you'd be lucky to have 1 in that same timeframe.
And yes, EV mobs cast potent spells for those of their lvl, and if you have low jewels you will get lots of dmg. I've been critted for 1,8k by an Antelope in the Goddard region. Was kinda "WTF" to notice it blast 1,8k hp off me. I made sure the **** thing died fast after that >.< noone crits me!
For pvp, 1 or 2 nuker crits can cause you instant death, depends on the class and lvls alot. I've been critted twice in a row with aura flare in a siege(total dmg over 8k) in C3 and that was harsh then. Now, with the higher magic crit chance and new buffs, people will get critted more and realise the massive amount of dmg a magic crit can do.
My ES has been running around without jewellery for a few days, and had no problems.
If a healer takes 1k+ from a regular nuke from a mob, it's time to
A) start using sleep to interrupt (yes, still very easily possible at level 52) or
B) buy new jewellery
Okie, here is some math for you. Your bro has wind resist (but i suppose not on; it cuts 30% dmg).
If I remember correctly Liele Elder hits for about 320 on 500ish mdef.
Receieving magic crit of 4507 means normal hit for 1127(!!). Since mdef is linear agaist damage it simply means: around 130mdef for your bro (or 100 if he has wind resist buff).
Even w/ simple NG jewels he'd have more. Do buy any jewels and stop whining.

You can't use sleep on a mob fast enough if you don't really notice it. These elders can hit you from a distance and you not even realize that you aggroed it because your too busy fighting another mob....So that's outta the question.
From what everyone else is saying, sounds like jewerly doesn't help a ton. He has bo jewel set now btw...and to the poster above me, he had more then 130 mdef....lol....that's just really low. He use to have around 200, now he has 400, but I really don't think it's going to help a ton but we will just have to see.
MalineII, elders are aggro not easy to sleep them (esp unspoted) and sleep of SE is not so good to rely on!
Because usually sleep fails first 2 trys on those elders anyways =/ Sadly, Wish l2 would give shillen elders sleep again at 52 for these 55 mobs instead of the level 48 sleep still.
SE sleep > ES sleep, eh? Don't be silly. I had no serious problem CCing in EV upstairs when we were there.
And yes, if there is a mob in your aggro range you SHOULD be noticing it, especially if you're playing only the one client and have time to look around properly.

?? LOL....Alrite so both of us are running up to a treant elder and we can get hit from a liele elder from behind a tree...you can't really notice them sometimes so stop acting like they are very easy to target. Not to mention by the time you hit them for sleep usually they will have already casted the wind strike or the sleep fails....and yes the sleep fails plenty of times up here so don't be silly. Sleep isn't the best thing to rely on.
>>SE sleep > ES sleep, eh?
in terms of landing for sure; in terms of casting speed... well.
>>And yes, if there is a mob in your aggro range you SHOULD be noticing it.
Not if the hill is hiding it. And honestly the l2 camera is far from being well managed.
No homu on me, only +4 WIT (where a healer should probably have +5), no pot buffs, no cast speed robes. No, I doubt I sleep significantly faster than an SE.
I can only speak from my own experience - and that is that I haven't had much trouble avoiding getting myself toasted. Of course that does involve such complex concept as making sure that whoever can take hits better is between me and "unkilled" territory (usually my pony), looking around and prioritising aggressive targets I know to be in an area (i.e. no Treant until I know the aggro casters are dead).

Rofl he does have +5, I made sure to get his dyes for him from mammon....and if I remember correctly BW Robe set does not have much casting speed if any. Shillen Elders sleep isn't too accurate. It needs to be more accurate so they can rely on it more because let's face it, healers suck at attacking anyways so they need something to use to atleast have a chance of getting away from something.

The hell?? My SO (before she made SE) was sleeping these mobs consistantly. It failed maybe 1 in 10 times.

(1st bold part)
and if i remember it has +3 wit making you have +8 wit meaning you should not be complaining about cast speed!
(2nd bold part)
but guess what, instead of increased lvl of slepp, you get increased lvl of root!
EE and bishop = -root +sleep
SE = +root -sleep

The fault, dear frozen, lies not with the game, but with we its underlings.
Quite simply said this is player fault. Your se has no jewels. He doesn't know how to sleep a casting mob. My lvl 35 SO with a SoL and mithril set was sleeping mobs in EV. Oh and he cast faster than the mobs did. Mobs have a rediculously slow cast speed. With bw and +5 wit you should be able to get 2-3 sleeps off before the mob can casts, and if you didn't see the mob casting, again your fault. Can it be hard to see sometimes? Yes. This game is easy enough and you still are complaining. Maybe people shouldn't have to move, and the mobs just spawn in front of you... oh and forget about social and agro mobs...
Go curse death link for a while and then come complain about getting killed in 1 shot.

A. I never complained about cast speed. The cast speed on the shillen elder is AMAZINGLY fast. I was just commenting to the poster above my post that said that his robe doesn't even have cast speed on it. I was comparing saying, BW doesn't either.
B.I don't even bother with root, but I guess that would be a good way to go. Temporarily disables movement....does this mean just movement? or casting speed movement as well. Sorry, I have never bothered with root just because we use sleep becuase it just does the job...so how would you compare root to sleep? I wouldn't think it's the same....please explain how it exactly works...because if I remember correctly...it only stops a mob from coming at you, not casting a spell...but it may.
To the posted ^^^ me...how in the world can he not know how to sleep a mob? lol...you cast sleep. I have seen him fail with sleep MANY times where he has to try up to 4 times before it actually works. Usually on the Elier elders or w/e it sleeps rite away...but the satyrs, unicorns, and treants it usually doesn't work first try...But when it doesn't sleep elier elders, it can be very fatal since they are the magic ones and it is the one that killed him. He did not have good magic it was all c and d and wasn't upgraded to b yet that may have been one of the reasons.....hopefully the magic bo set he got last night helps alot.Btw, I don't expect a mob to just pop out infront of me everytime, that would be too easy. But when a mob pops out from behind, it's very hard to turn around and cast sleep fast enough before he gets his cast made on you..
Btw, he has his anti-magic maxed now since that happened, he didn't then and I think that helps alot too.
Your lvl 52 and dont know how root works? What lvl were you when you bought your account? Shil Elders dont get any lvls in sleep, so your relying on Shil oracles lvl 35 sleeps for lvl 50 mobs.
Shil elders get Root. root wont stop magic attacks, but you cant wake a rooted mob by hitting it.
After lvl 40, EE and bishops get sleep, Shil elders and prophets get root. Learn to love the root. Archers, polearms, and nukers will love rooted mobs cause they cant melee back.

Bought my account? Are you kidding me. You do not need to go through your levels using root...so stop being a smart*****. Some people are so ignorant sometimes. I am ignorant sometimes but that's beside the fact..lol.. A shillen elder does not have to go up to 52 and even bother using root. I have only used sleep because I did not want to use the sp to even get root because I felt like sleep did the job and that root was the same thing. I never bothered to ask anyone so now is a good time....what's the big deal about that?
So your saying root doesn't even work against magic? Then wtf is the use of using it in this situation over sleep. The whole issue is that a elier elder hit our shillen elder for 4500...ok....so if root doesn't block magic then it still would have happened. The other argument is simply that Sleep doesn't work enough. We should have a better sleep because I'm going to keep using it if root doesn't even work against magic....they are casting magic not meleeing us so what's the use of using root on em...lol eh..... Btw I use a 2h sword...not a blunt or polearm since destroyers are better using 2h swords being a damage dealer instead of a tank. Destroyers can go 2 ways...anyways that's all I'm going to say on this whole post because I haven't had it happen again to me yet. Now, I'm using bo on the elder and got the anti magic up all the way...so think that helped alot.
magic crits happen..rare but they happen.Sleep doesnt land 100%..get used to these things or go back to disneyland(WoW).Period.
Going much better now. I guess my bro just needs to pay attention more that's all. He hasn't died since...got his new magic stuff, learned some new skills, and learned his lesson.
Btw, yes wow is a circus compared to L2. Love l2 now. Can't even go back to the fantasy circus of wow.
