I've posted this in the suggestion forum before but I want to know what's your opinion on it. I think it would get more replies if posted here.
I've watched 10 or so replay movies of a group of people killing other people. First one, cool. Second, nice. Third one, ** hum. Tenth, BORING.
I want to see names. I want to see who got owned. I want to see who's owning. I want to see when people turn purple or red. Right now the movies are so generic that a TOI fight in Bartz would look no different than one from Hinde. Also in a few weeks or months the videos become just another video and forgotten. With names things get personal. You can show when you pwned that l337 sauce who turned out to be nothing but a bag of hot air.
Make it more personal, make it matter, show the names in the videos. What do YOU think?
I think that it would be a nice toggle in the player. Encode it in the movies, but make it simple to disable for all those times when we really don't care who it was, just what they were doing.
At the moment the replay function isn't being used to its potential because of missing clan tags and names.
Please NCNA bring this up with team korea.
The player-made pvp video scene is big on NA servers and for a lot of players it's one of the things they look forward to most. Developing the replay function would do so much for us.
Thank you.
Well someway somehow the replay movies know how to position toons and what they wear, etc. So I think the movies do have the names of people in it unless they're using ID numbers and the client has to fetch the names from the server. After all when you play the movie you're not logged in. But that's just a guess on my part.
And if they're afraid ingame movies will incriminate people then they should remove names from screenshots.
- Free camera control. Really free. Bind the camera to whoever or whatever you want (say, the tip of your sword), or let it just float in the air.
- A better replay control. Use the one from ZoomPlayer if you need ideas. In particular, I'd like to be able to jump to any point in the recording and set jump marks for quick reference.
- Merging of recordings if their time frames overlap. Imagine a bunch of people recording a castle siege, each of them (as it is now) only recording the part of it around him or her, and merging the files to one big recording of all that happened at that siege for a nice session of off-line siege video editing.

Names have to already be in the replay files. After all, the complete chat log is in there, too (play a replay with the "show chat box" option checked, then immediately afterwards log on with one of your characters - you will see the whole chat in your chat box before the "welcome to l2" message...)

Oh yeah, free browsing over the whole Siege-Field while recording from different angles *drools*
I would like names, maybe clan tags too. But adding chat, health, buffs well, I'm afraid it would just jack up the file size like crazy. Or lag people that don't have decent machines a bunch.
Some of us went little bit too far i think.
I agree that players names/clan crests/chat/etc. (in general whole interface) should be shown.
But remember that this isn't ultimate recording tool but one of the game features. I think some forgot that L2 is atm ONLY ONE game which have such a feature. So insted of whilling as usual try to apprieceate this a little.

Like I said above, chat IS ALREADY IN the replay. They just do not show it. By ESCing out of the replay at various points and then logging on one of my char, I could see that the whole chat which happened during the time of the replay definitely is in the replay file. Actually I would like an option to NOT save the chat in a replay. As it is, anybody who has access to the replay file can see the ally chat, clan chat, party chat and pm of the person who recorded it.

So then it is in there but not really? That might be a workaround but that's not the same as seeing the chat on your screen like the normal interface shows it. I understand it's THERE, it's just not showing how people wish to view it.
Personally I rather like the replay, names and tags and I'd be thrilled.
We are talking about mmorpg games - right?
Just think a little bit before you post anything.
Yes sure, I can say that i want space ships in L2 and tool to creating my own items - in fact everyone can. But for what? This doesn't change anything coz it's riddiculus.

I implemented recording (server-side) and replaying capabilities in one (Gueldenland) in 1995. I just chose a better-known and older game as an example. Your point?
Again: Lineage 2 is hardly the only game with such a feature, it existed for more than ten years in other games already, and L2's implementation could be significantly improved upon.

LOL you are talking about MUD. If you don't see this - there is little difference between text and 3d engine. We have recording feature - but you want possibility to put camera whenever you want (you can't do this in game even).
But this isn't the point. The point is why implement so advanced camera control? Because you want? There is no need to do such a thing - insted of this they should implement features which affect gameplay, and don't waste time for recording things. Coz this isn't video recording tool but mmorpgg game. That's the one thing.
Second - with such a feature you can exploit game (i.e. while sieges).
Yeah... but i forgot that you so smart that implementing this in game take you 5sec. Sorry then.
FYI: A MUD is an MMORPG. Stop shifting goal posts each time somebody proves you wrong; you've done it twice already ("game" -> "MMORPG", "MMORPG" -> "3D-MMORPG").
(...) The point is why implement so advanced camera control? Because you want?
Yes, exactly. There is a need (= somebody wants it), and as long as the weight of that need and the positive sides of this feature outweights the difficulties and negative sides, it should get implemented.
Why else would anything be programmed, if not because somebody wants it?
There is no need to do such a thing - insted of this they should implement features which affect gameplay, and don't waste time for recording things.
That's your opinion. I have mine, and we obviously differ here. Let's leave it at that.

I - and everyone else - can already record both a video of what's happening, as well as any messages that go the channels. How would an in-game recording be any worse, beside it being more convenient?

As far as recording goes, not much. In the end it's just numbers that keep track of everything. Player positions, gear, hp, targets, what they do when - all just numbers. The 3D part comes from the L2 engine itself that just converts the numbers into the replay. All these things shouldn't actually be too hard to implement, as far as I saw you can freely roam around in the Olympiad arena as well, no? So even that tool is already there...
