What are earth attacks? And some others...

BD's have a dance that protects against "earth attacks". What are earth attacks? There's another one against terrain damage. What are those? standing on lava in BS?
What about the new high level skills, that say that you incorporate and ancient warrior/wizard/assassin/hero ? What do they do exactly?
Well, song of earth that SWS gets increases P.defense... so i would think physical damage? perhaps non-elemental damage? i cant really say for sure, those are just guesses O.o
Earth-based = sleep, root, decay (I think), not sure what else.

I've wondered the same thing about those "possessed by....." skills.
I have surrender to earth: Instantly decreases enemy's resistance to earth attacks

tested it with solar flare but didn't see any difference. if it's to help sleep land hell it lands 90% of the time anyway. But will test it.
I've had many sps tell me it helps with sleep. Give it a shot, can't hurt. I have surrender to wind with no wind attacks so don't feel bad.
this topic pops up alot
the general consesus is earth isnt an earth based attack
****ed if i know what is
Earth guard and song of earth are different, I beleive it was teh second post that got this confused. As far as I know only Decay is Earth magic. I've tested sleep and Earth Guard seemed to have no effect, or at least too low to even make a difference. The Dance of Protection (resists terrain damage) is meant for raid bosses I believe. I know Lilith and Baium have this one attack that seems to lift the ground and attack everyoen in range. Also I recall a BD in our clan saying Earth Guard actually helped against some of Antharas's attacks. But as for PvP I think only Decay is Earth-based and terrain damage is strictly raid boss attack
They should put the info on the skill description, which skill/spell is which type. But I guess it's self explanatory in korean and the reseller has no way to change that...
Ok, perhaps sleep doesn't get affected by earth, perhaps it does can't really tell with the current game mechanics to any real degree. Root is earth based however and it does seem that decay is too. Of course some could try to argue it's dark but I don't think it is. I'll try it on mobs that are dark resist and those that are earth resist and let you know. I'm 99% sure it's earth based.

So any theories yet on to what these "possessed by (such and such) spirit..." means and actually does?
It would realy be great if someone who knows what earth attacks are would answer this thread. It's like its a big secret.
i think earth skills will probably be implemented in future cronicles, it probably has not been implemented yet due to graphics problems, but most likey human wizards will receive these skills to make up for the fact that the other 2 races with nukers have 2 elements at there desposal (DE= wind, darkness) (LE= water, light)

Nobody knows, a lot of speculations but thats all. It is said to help against falling damage as well.

You kind of can tell, just look at the animation. With drains and other Dark magic there is a hex on the ground, with aqua there is water all around caster, when casting Decay leaves and such float around the caster (thus Earth), etc. So far you have to rely on animations, but even those might not be 100% accurate. I noticed when mobs cast MP drain it LOOKS to be dark magic but dark resistance does nothing to it, unless that has been changed in C4 as I have not checked yet. Best thing to do is *gasp* test things out!!! put some effort into answering your own questions. Too often do people rely on the advice of others and half the time the advise is terrible or just plain wrong. This is one of the reasons I feel most of the L2 community is ignorant to helpful buffs that many feel useless.

i know 90% of everything written on this board os wrong (your post included), but maybe there is 1 person who knows something and is willing to share with us.

And I include your post because testing for the effects that I asked about not only would be lenghty, they would be inconclusive. How do I test if sleep is an earth attack, if it has a random chance of landing, random chance of failing, a random chance of being resisted and all the probabilities can be distorted due to other effects that are also known only by observation (such as matk, jewels, skills, mdef).

If you want to test this, please, be my guest. If you know someone who has tested this, please, let him/her know that this info will be very much appreciated.
well quite honestly I have no idea whats incorrect in my post but don't leave us in suspense, share it :p.

And you CAN test things out, everything is not completely random. If you ever got into programming and math you would realize this. Also if you knew anything about games you would know nothing is random. You CAN test things and its fairly easy and isn't that time consuming. Just use the scientific method and your results will be as accurate as tehy can get. The easiest and quickest way is to do like a 100 cast trial. One with and one without Earth Guard and always use the same caster and same victim with the same buffs etc. (as in a controlled experiment). If you use the same ppl stats like WIT stay the same and thus the chance stays the same. My guess is you do not even understand the mathmatics behind randomness and such. If there is a difference you WILL see it and it will be blatent. Just like the other 'Guard' songs/dances the change is incredibly noticable, as should Earth Guard if in fact something like Sleep is considered Earth magic by programming labels.
Well its pretty hard for me to test if it works with sleep since my sleep lands 99% of the time. I looked at all the skills for all the mages on this sight from lvl 1-78. Its pretty easy to figure out whats wind/water/fire/dark/light but there is nothing in all the skills thats says anything about earth.

I asked the question hoping someone might know. We all know you can test different stuff on here and if I thought I could effectively test sleep I would. Also Taraza show me where it says sleep is earth magic. I haven't seen it. If you just assuming sleep is earth magic because it has been in other games you know what happens when you "assume".
Drop the BSpS, play with Aegis, try a higher-level target...

It's not difficult to create a situation where your sleep sometimes lands and sometimes does not.

Ya I could do that. But then again is it worth it to find out. Im not really sure. Surrender to earth cost mp. I haven't lvl'd it up because I dont know what its for yet. As it is right now I wouldn't lvl it up just for sleep. I just thought someone else might know what its for. But since knowone else knows that tells me its not worth waisting SP on just to see if it works with sleep.
Prima guide mentioned that Decay is the only earth-based spell (that was an age of C1) on the page dedicated to spellsingers.

Perhaps, some mobs have earth attacks too.

You may think you know what you're talking about but you don't. Highschool statistics does not work here. Pseudo-random algorithms are not the issue. The landing rate is affected by 3 or 4 different probabilities distributions, each biased by a different factor, which may or may not bias the other distributions in a different way. Good luck figuring out the odds on a meaningfull significance... If you even know what that is...

But basicly this is just math. If all factors remain the same but one, those other factors arent important.

getting slept = part of the formula. So all you need to do is experiment using the same factors over and over. Get yourself slept 100 times with and 100 times without dance by the same nuker under the same conditions. Then if you spot a difference you can do more and other tests.

You misunderstand my posts, I'm the only one here saying Sleep IS NOT Earth magic and it was based on my tests. People often stated Sleep was Earth magic so I tested for myself and my results showed that it wasn't. I've played other Korean games and Earth magic in them were things like Poison and slow, if anything I would "assume" them.

And you can test sleep easily, sleep doesnt land on me 99% of the time, I'd say its a good 75% of the time if anything. Mind you I am lvl 76. There are effective ways to test things. Maybe grab a lower lvl sleeper who lands a little less often on you. In NONE of my posts do I assume anything and if I do its clearly stated. Everything I post is from trying things out, I'm the type of person who doesn't take people's word on things, I go out and test it. I've been in college for a year and a half now for Programming and Game Design. I have to take specific math classes for gaming math. But screw math, I hate it :p, what I care about is game design so I take my favorite games and break them down as much as possible trying to figure what the developers intended, what happened, what went wrong, why they messed up, etc.? I find this game quite interesting in that flaws only pop out at certain times and become problems only in certain aspects. For the most part I think I realize what the developers intended but they fell short simply due to lack of testing things on all levels and in all aspects. It also amazing me at just how much things have changed in this game since prelude and just how ignorant players can be to those changes. Though players cannot be completely blamed as NC Soft never releases complete and accurate patch notes. Every game is flawed, no game is perfect but when you have online games you have lots of people trying lots of different things and you have easily and readily available means to communicate with other players. So when some flaw or exploit is discovered it just wreaks havoc. I will NEVER expect every player in an online game community to be happy, its simply impossible.
