Well I was shocked to find out you lose exp when lil kiddies are bored and pk you. I didn't mind the first time or the second but playing this game for 2 days I realize 3% x 10 deaths = waste of my time. Really why is this game designed to lose exp when you do nothing and just stand there. Ive played games where pvp is fun but i can't imagine being level 55+ and having 3% lose from some [censored] who's bored. Well maybe this game is for hardcore players and not for me , since i just want to have fun but am really not.
When you are 55+ that rarely happens (unless you're at war, which is a whole other issue). In fact, past ~25/30 I never got PKed. Once you get out of the Abandoned Camp level range, things calm down. Until then, PK happens...
Lineage II is an open PvP game. That means at any time, any where (except in town) for any reason what-so-ever you can be attacked and killed if someone is stronger/faster/better than you.
It's not a constant gankfest, but it happens and if you can't learn to shrug it off then this is not the game for you.
I love this game. I hate getting PKed, but I am very stubborn and I'm not going to let someone drive me out.
This game isn't for everyone but I think it's amazing. In other games the rules/mechanics of the game force you to behave. In this game, the only thing forcing you to be a 'good' person is yourself.
Come try Erica. Yes, we have some reds and other types of immature and unpleasant players....as long as humans are at the keyboards you will get human behavior. But on Erica server we work to police those types, a never ending struggle.
That is what you will learn to love about L2, people are allowed to be people. We have very good folks and very bad folks, the game does not force people to be anything, you are what you are. In fact, you cannot really Choose to be good or evil, your basic nature shines through. The bad people don't understand being good, it is beyond their mental comprehension. The good ones cannot bring themselves to be bad since it is contrary to their basic nature. No, I disagree with myself...we each have some bad in us, and the bad have some good, but....
So you see, L2 is a struggle with mobs, with others, and with ourselves. Like life, but better 'cause you get to nuke stuff.

I am normally the kind of person to encourage people to stay in game. But considering your expectation level (quote 1) and your admitted style of play (quote 2) I think you pretty much have it figured out.
Ten deaths in two days is a lot. Are you returning to the same area you were killed in? When you get killed, go somewhere else. Every starting village except the DE village has multiple exits. If PKdude27 is waiting outside the North exit, use the South exit.
I would also recommend having more than one toon on the server, usually a dwarf. Dwarves can get money and mats to equip the toon you really want to play. If PKdude27 is near your starting village, switch to the other toon. Let PKdude27 wonder when you are coming out again.
PK folks have short.... err.... attention spans... If you don't 'come out to play' after a while, they will move on.
Oh, and remember the PK folks' names. They will never be higher than you see them now, but you WILL BE. When you are, return to reward them properly. It is very satisfying to kill a PKer and take their stuff, to the accompanyment of their whining about you 'stealing' from them.
this is what i didn't when i was mid 20's, i was soling at the back of elven fortress and didn't have an soe so i ran out and yelled that i was comming with a train and to be careful for anyone fighting...and a guy yells out where? i explain that im' comming to the ent...then BAM! stun shot.....
the tarin does a number on me and the guy picks up what i droped...he was red also. so i leveld a bit...went back a few days later...and outside EF was he same guy fighting some mobs....so i stun shot him let the mobs attack the i keep hitting him....he drops a bunch of stuff(i still have the crappy dagger he droped in my WH) and he askes for his stuff back
i burst out laughing...
next day....BAM! revenge the 2nd time around is much better :)
yeah my char on sieghardt got pked by 2 reds in top d gear. brought buddies, had em hide, lured them out again and BAM! 250 healing potions, boots of power and elven necklace richer!

Yep. I never got pked after 20 because I was always grouped with my bro and other people. Alyways grouped all the time and still always am. It's the best way to level in my opinion and no one bothers you if you don't bother them.

My 1st toon Human Knight, got Pk 8 times on my 1st 4 days. 25+ on the 1st 2 weeks and weekeds omg for get it. Now Kymaro is lev 65+ sitting on my Roster. I never gave up, i got piss but never gave up. player give up on the 1st or 2nd Pk. If you do then Lineage is not the game for you. If you do keep going the reward are really big.
Brandspanknew, i can sympathize with your plight. however, a few things worth noting about your less-than-frienly neighborhood pker: a permanently chaotic character (red/pker) will never be able to level up, every PKer i know has thier exp go down rather than up... so all you have to do is avoid them untill you are bigger than them. not unlike a particularly ugly breed of mob, PKers tend to stay in thier chosen areas and agro anyone who looks like easy prey.
keep in mind also, that most of them are failed higher levels or unwanted alts (and a few specifically leveled for PK but i wont get into that >.>) so they could have some interesting loot for you once you are bigger.
if you decide they are too much for you, or some other ingame feature drives you away from L2. i wish you luck wherever you end up!
-no server is PKer free, just some have a few less than others ;)
