I just started playing again (played CB then quit) and I'm making a Destroyer..currently a fighter. I know I want to go through with making this char even tho I hear it ian't the best PvP. I was just curious about the role of the destroyer in the game. Do destroyers affect the general outcome of sieges and big GvG battles? How do they fair in PvP 1v1, 1vMany etc. And all you destroyers out there, are they fun to play? Does the simplicity of the destroyer cause it to become boring? Also, all of you who played shadowbane, does the destroyer compare at all to the barbarian in SB? Let me know please, I would like to know my role in the game. Peace out
Destroyers are some of the best melee PvPers if equipped right! They even do well with bows, and output huge amounts of damage.
They also have crazy amounts of HP, so they can kinda tank...
In PvE you can use polearms and do AoE parties, and rake in the XP. Or you can pull out ur blunt/2handed sword and SMASH mobs!
We have 2 destroyers in our clan, and I love em! I haven't played one, but when I subclass, that will probally be what I sub.
Anyway, as in fun factor I don't think anyone can decide that for you. It depends on if you just find it fun....that is about all. Ppl play em, so for some ppl think they are fun, but not all or everyone would be a destroyer.
IMO I feel they are one of the best melee in game! Good choice!

Very good class you picked. Destroyers are amazing and when equipt rite, they do amazing damage. I suggest going 2h sword with
D Grade Armor: Brig Set
C Grade Armor: Full Plate
B Grade Armor: BW
A Grade Armor: I will be there tomorrow and will let you know rofl....
D Grade Weapon: N/A
C Grade Weapon: Berserker Blade
B Grade Weapon: Great Sword
A Grade: N/A
Destroyers are amazing, I'm starting to hear more and more that they are good with bows. I may buy one and try it as a switch weapon and see how it does :):) Anyways, hope this helped a tad.
Armors and weapons really depend on the overall build you're making. If it's a con build or a str build. If you want to maximize the dmg or the time you live in pvp.
A-grade: NM heavy for CON build(or those that go STR but still want to be prepared for sleep/root.) and Tallum/Majestic for STR builds optimizing dmg. As a weapon, Dragon Slayer with Health is good for both types at melee range, but using a shield+Elysian with Health to close the gap is recommended(you can also stun with it). For some initial ranged fighting, a BoP with Accuracy is nice(destros have low accuracy) or a BoP with QR(or better bows, if you can afford them ;) )
Dont forget to bring a pole with you ;) Some nasty skills for it too at the end game(chrono is enough).
Overall, destro is a really flexible class that can fulfill many different roles, and it's fun to play :P
This all sounds good, thanks for the info. Looking forward to smashing things once i get my 2 handed! Any reqs on a two-hand at lvl 20ish?
Well at level 20 you can choose a couple of two handed swords.
There still is the old no grade zweihander if you are real low on money (250k).
For D grade weapons, there is first the Heavy Sword which looks real nice and is cheap (500k). The first upgrade is the twohanded sword which is rougly 1.2 million. Finaly there is the Claymore which is the best 2handed D grade sword. You will have to buy this from PC'shops or trade your old weapon up using the Blacksmith Mammon (see the seven signs competition).
seems everyone plays a glad since they think its the best PvP melee, its a secret though: i take out glads that are 8 lvls above me :) destroyer is fun i think not becuase you get to smash stuff (you do) but because of the low hp skills. with high con even greater heals dont do much to save you but you can get out of just about any situaton if you do the math beforehand (in c4 you can use guts/frenzy when at 1/3 hp not 1/5) dont get canceled. the role of a destroyer i myself contemplated until about lvl 50...you are not really a tank since you take a bit too much damage, and not really a damage dealer since if you are doing good damage you're about to die. you are a meat shield. a good all-around class with a few selfbuffs and a slow sort-of self heal. basically you can do anything, depending on how you like to play. aoe parties with polearm, solo with 2H sword, use a bow against archery-weak mobs (just not at point blank you will never hit), or stun and tank for a mid-sized party (leave full partys to DAs). get good accessories and watch out for root/sleep/pz/slow, always carry haste lvl 2 pot for emergencies and dont solo in necros where lilim priests can cancel your guts skill >.<
"yes im the tank, yes i have VR4, and yes, zerk me."
They're not a bad class, but a rare class still, and a hard one to master. Thats why there's so few _high_ lvl Destroyers around and even fewer truly good Destroyers >.> Not to mention you need to have _alot_ of adena to fully equip a Destroyer for PVP+PVE. 2 Armor sets, 4 weapons... costs T_T
