Just venting after two months of play

So--what is the Lineage2 experience like--now--as a noob? Most players could care less. Still-perhaps someone else who starts will appreciate some experiences candidly shared.
10 Lessons I've learned as a noob (and i'm still a noob at lvl 36):
1) Getting pk'd doesn't hurt when u r new. It's just not that big a deal--don't even worry about it. It's hard to ignore--write down the pk'ers name for 'some day in the future'.
2) Grinding doesn't begin to describe the killing of mobs for experience. It is inadequate as a term. Slave comes closer (smile)
3) The reason u feel poor is comparisons with others. Just don't do it. If u are lvl 15 and don't have d-grade gear u are probably doing fine. Notice that while doing the proper quests u r able to kill the monsters involved with no trouble? Play the game design and ignore the "keeping up with the Joneses" trap.
4) Being friendly and helping others randomly is fun and causes others to also help in little ways. The community side of playing is the only real reason to play this game--otherwise final fantasy on Playstation is better!
5) Kill mobs at your level!!!!! Kill mobs at your level!!!! You CAN hunt above your level--with tons of soulshot and healing potions--which u have to PAY for.
6) DO NOT JOIN A CLAN as a noob. You don't even know enough to know what to ask...."is it a main clan?...does the leader have any idea what they r doing?...does the clan have goals that u can live with?....is the clan stable and mature?...is the clan honorable?...will the clan offer you advantages in protection or parties to help you level--can they even do those things? (contrary to popular noob opinion--clans do not exist to give u twinked out gear for free)" Solo until u learn game basics--well into your twenties.
6) Do not fall into the popular 'whine' mode. The game is what it is--it won't change for u. There r ways to find success--the challenge (and fun) is to find them. Everyone (including me) has whined about bots, not enough money dropping, twinked ebay players--it's a trap for noobs. Just take the game as it is--good and bad.
7) Be adventurous!!! Try stuff. There are few penalties at noob levels when u screw up. When the obviously competent Orc asks you to party--take the chance. When a healer wants to pair up to hunt--try it. You have little to lose and the experiences are fun (or at least funny).
8) SAVE YOUR MATS! I wish I had all the iron I sold at 120a in Gludin still with me!!! I can't remember but probably used my new-found money then to buy something stupid like 'bronze gaiters'. Put materials you get from drops in warehouse. Someday your clan dwarf will make you cool stuff with it and think u r the greatest clan addition in history!
9) There are always people in game who will answer honest questions--ask them. Ignore the snide remarks you get.
10) Use the websites as guides. Nothing is more frustrating that going to the wrong place on a quest when u couldve checked a website in 2 minutes and got it right the first time.

Finally--high level players are virtual gods in this game. You cannot compete--they won't interact--from your perspective they don't matter. It will take many, many, many hours of game play for you to even participate in sieges and such. All that you LEARN while leveling will come in handy. Enjoy the journey (and put frustrations in perspective--its a GAME). :)
Well, by now Im sure you've figured out what a catacomb/necropolis is. You've also probably realized that its great EXP to hunt in there. You may or may not have noticed that they are TERRIBLE for money. This is the trap I see a lot of new players to the game fall into. They want the fast EXP that the low level catacombs can provide, but they fail to notice that they are making very little money in there. Field mobs with cash quests are the best thing in the world for a new player.

Joining in on raid groups is another "bad" way to level. Your share of the drops(if there are any) will be so small that you wont come out ahead. Back before they changed the XP system in the game, my favorite way to make money was to hunt mobs that were 1-2 levels away from going to light blue, you'd still get cash and mat drops comperable to white mobs, but you'd get less XP and could make more money.

Im at a loss these days as to how to make money at a low level since the manor systems are all screwed up right now.
both of your comments are good additions--I wish I had known those before learning the hard way!!
Catas/necropolis' experience gain is good but money stinks as u say--hunting areas have better stuff and adenda but less exp. At level 24-34 I found that abandoned camp, then orc barracks and wastelands were best compromise.
Your point about raiding should be posted in noob instructions--lol! It's okay to try--but they are so thrown together and led by the rash and reckless that it's mostly just comically funny with the lower level bosses (lmao).
Buying bargains from players desparate for money can help lower players--once u discipline yourself to check before buying. An elf needing money last week sold me 2-300+k weapons for 150k each--it took all the money I had. I sold each for 260k overnight. Quick 220k for me-which other than a bastard sword drop from an orc overlord is the best money i've made.
Still--depends on how much money a player thinks they "need", doesn't it? If u somehow think at lvl 15 that u NEED an elven long sword--this is gonna be a frustrating game!
I'd say my lvl 36 dwarf (really focused on lvling and now in first warsmith quest) has good equip (brig set, elven set, glaive), about 1.5 million adenda and 15000 ssd in warehouse, GREAT skills for what's available in the class(dwarves have lots of SP), and all the basic recipies. He's clanned and I have about 10 pretty good friends outside of clan I party with. I call this successful enough for me.
Manoring still works quite well. I've manored lots of crafted leather, varnish, suede, etc. in elven fortress and NoS. You have to be patient and get the seeds you want. Manoring is a great idea before level 40 because none of the parts you get are going to be useful anyway (some exceptions, like gloves of knowledge). With the manor system, the mats you get can be worth 5-10x what you paid for the seeds.

I still haven't really found any quests under 40 that are worth doing. Sure, its a little bit more adena if you're hunting in an area anyway, but they aren't going to make you rich.
Valdis, the manor systems are screwy because the people that own the lower level manor castles are lowballing the returns like crazy. I gave up on trying to get anyone to set them up right. I wish Inv hadnt let castles go, they run much better manor systems.

There is a good quest given one of Gludin's guards (he is on the exit toward the arena and name starts with "A"), that quest requaers alot of runing but gives 98k, prety good for 20-30th quest.
True, and now that you mention it, the wish potion quest can still bring in some adena if you're willing to do the footwork.

I haven't checked the manors since the last siege run. Before that, they were at least somewhat useful.

INV didn't "let" anything go Canto. he castles are being fought for now and they change hands a lot. PPl are fighting for power. it is VERY easy to maintian a profitable manor system for lower level players when the castle is not threatened. now they are all being threatened so the manor system is not important in the minds of the castle owners.
You are slightly wrong there Plague, I talk to TL a lot whining that they need to take Gludio to make life easier on New Players, he always tells me "we're giving up castles, not taking more". I get the same response from pretty much every Inv member I talk to. Atleast I get responses from them, getting Sandron to answer a PM is impossible.

TL says lots of things.....

also keep in mind that Mirage is taking castles as well and they are allied with INV. my point is that during this turbulent time, the manor system is not a major priority, in my opinion. that should be no excuse, but managing one takes A LOT of time and dedication and responding to PMs like yours. what's the point of going through all that when u might lose the castle in 2 weeks?
I know Innadril isn't a noob area really, but I bet if you spoke to Marcus and gave him advice on how to set up the Manor properly, he'd happily do it, CantoScav. :)
one thing on catas/necros, if u can find a nice group that is soley trying to make money, like 6people, u can fight the mobs not using SS... AA is a GREAT sell, i make atleast a few mil a week off selling my AA (i play to much) but there is definately a way to make money in catas/necros...

Also, canto... they say they are giving up the castles caz they are getting PWND at the fights for them... mirage = newb who cares about them...
Yeah, I made GREAT money in the necros/catas seeding and using the manor. But had to do it either solo or with friends and clan mates. Worked great when I duoed with a SE, we would each buy like 200 seeds I would sow/reap all 400, then we would split the fruits.

/Agree on saving face saying they are giving up castles. You would be stupid to give up that kind of tax money and the castle craftable items.
since when did we say invin was smart??
Valdis are you Latvian ???
I've been asked that before. The name is, I'm not.
until last night I couldnt comment at all on the manor system. I had sowed about 550 seeds and harvested crops but not sold any (couldn't find when the gludin manager bought until someone on this post told me 9:05 est).
I finally sold last night--blue cobals (about 380 of them) for something like 18 'thons' (whatever a thon is....lol).
If I calc this right, these thons are worth 3000k sold even in shop...that's about 20 crops per thon. The seeds were 50a each--20 of them would be 1000a.
So, u r right that u get back about 3x the price of seeds. Since I was farming in wastelands solo and getting paid for those kills anyway--this net of an 'extra' 20k or so from farming wasn't bad.
I can see that if u picked better seeds that it would be worthwhile to add the manor system into game play.
Thanks for comments--it was replies to this post that caused me to try the manor system out for the first time.
Never shop sell mats. Thons are selling for something 10k+ (not sure about the price, haven't bought any in months). So you can see, selling on the market, you're making quite a profit this way. Also, works far better with 2x and 4x mobs.
yeah, vlad-i pretty much guessed as much...i'm a noob but that much of a noob. As soon as I saw the shop would give me 3k for each i put them all in the warehouse. The ingame icon DOES say thons are 'used for creating certain b-grade items' or some such thing. I kind of figured selling them to the shop was a bad idea. I have yet to find out exactly what a 'thon' is for--but if a shop will give me 3k for one of them I'll hold onto them until I find out....yet another lesson u have to learn the hard way in this game! :)
Thons are used for crafting Jewelery - and they are selling for around 10K atm.

Unless you know you're not going to need mats for a while and the price is at an exceedingly high point I would recommend just storing everything you get - you'll be glad you did when you want to craft something and discover that you already have all the mats you need in your warehouse!
If there is one positive most people can admit to about Invincible, its that they know how to run a manor system that is profitable to them, and the users.

Back when Nemesis owned Dion, I was making well over 200 crafted leather a day(Dion buys at half the value now, so same work, only 100 Cleather) and usually 150 or so Ori Ore(UrukHai owned Gludio) off the manor system. I would buy the seeds in Gludio, work them, and sell them in Dion for around 6x more than the price I paid. At one point Oren was the same for certain seeds, buy them in Gludio, sell in Oren(DEV). Working the manor successfully required you to be attentive to all the available places to buy and sell any seed, I usually spent a good hour or so after any seige weekend making sure nothing had changed in any manor system, and familiarizing myself with anything new. It is harder now because the new interface is far less intuitive than the old one in my opinion.

Oddly enough, one of the better things you can do for yourself is to make a scavenger. The spoils you pull in can be saved for crafting, or sold for profit. Recipes are mostly NPCable, and since they stack, can add up quickly into big bucks. You can spoil Enchant scrolls which can help yourself, or be sold.

Sandron does not even own a castle and has other stuff to handle. Talk to the castle owners: Boundless or Solun maybe for Dion.

Somehow Sharif comes to my mind, he was often to be seen around gludio, caring for the elderly and the poor ... ;)

I know Innadril isn't a noob area really, but I bet if you spoke to Marcus and gave him advice on how to set up the Manor properly, he'd happily do it, CantoScav.

Yes if you send me an in-game email Ill look at any suggestions you have and respond back afterwards detailing any changes made.

you pm'd me once about 2/1 while i was afk
i reply and you were off

i hardly classify that as impossible to get ahold of
I PM'd you once, Others in clan have PM'd you numerous times and never recieved a response. But its cool, and not the point of these postings, Im just being bitter because I miss the old manor setups that actually made me good money, heh.

see? thats 2 responses in 1 day
crazy stuff
Thanks for the intelligent and candid post DrakkosIV - as a noob (2 characters at lvl 20 class change complete) I found it really helpful. It pretty much confirmed my own feelings and it was good to hear that I'm not alone. I was hoping more noobs would share their experiences on this thread but oh well. I must say I'm having a hard time finding posts on any lineage 2 site with any real information. This site definately seems to be the best. It's either people talking about how this class owns some other class at pvp or someone asking about how bad the grind is. ugggh. I've only talked to one other person in game and the fool was trying to tell me that it's better to hunt yellow or light red and some other nonsense. Someone obviously purshased some adena ;)
I'm fine grinding along killing greens and light blues. I'm eager to lvl up and start partying with some people. It seems most people dont' really party until lvl 30 or so right? Any other noobs on Lionna want to share?
It's been a while since I've trolled the boards...I must say that I'm both shocked and delighted to see so many new people joining the game.

You made some very valid points Drak, and something that I thought almost got mentioned but didn't as we fell into why the manor system is not as profitable as once it was is this....

Most of the players that mentioned the good results they got in the cats didn't spend hours...they spent DAYS and WEEKS of actual game time slowly building enough wealth to do the things they can do now...as a new guy there is no way you'll be able to afford the gear you need to run small, profitable, manor-driven parties in the cats or necros...just won't happen I'm afraid.

When people like Canto and GMB and a handful of the rest of us started we spent our time grinding without shot and in full parties in Cruma Tower, and frankly I miss that.

Grinding like that did two things. First it ensured a place to get drops that would be helpful for your lvl, not just as re-sale items as is the case in most instances now, and while slow, it yielded a fair income. Secondly, and most importantly though it held the community together...since you could hear the general shouts of everyone on the server since everyone was lvling on one floor or another of the same place. I think it's harder to make friends now as a new player because we lack that central space.

Erm...I'm getting myself off track. Today, some good while after Open Beta, I can field a team of two players that can duo any of the lowbie or middling cats (much past Martyrs I have trouble yet). I can afford to spam shot and because I'm only there with one other person, the manor can be extremely lucrative...even now.

Unfortunately, as a new player SS or SpS or (god forbid) BSpS is not an option. The fact is your weapons aren't good enough in most cases to see a big enough difference in dmg to warrant the cost.

I too abandoned my little dwarf rather early on, but if you really want to get a jump on things without the heart-wrenching, skull-numbing, finger-blistering hours of smacking single hp mobs without shot and sitting after every two or three I'd look at him again.

If you decide to go with am arti the ability to make your own shot as you're grinding will save you on shot fees, and port expenses...they can carry a lot, so there's less need to visit town.

If you decide on a scavy you can spoil enough base mats to quickly pay for gear upgrades. We old timers have more money than we need and are paying INSANELY STUPID prices for simple things like varnish and animal bone which can be had in large quantities as a dwarf in the lowbie dungeons.

For your own sanity, I would suggest a trip to the main land...go lvl in the light elf village or do the money quests in the DE village till you're close to 20....if you get lonely you can always take a field trip inland to Dion =D

If you decide to stay with the summoner (they are great fun to play, and despite the crystal cost are not as gear dependent and therefore expensive as other classes) you can still use the manor to make pretty good money doing just what you are...killing like lvl or lower mobs.

More than anything else though, I want to welcome you to a wonderful and ever evolving game and server.
