New to the game. Not impressed. Yeah, the graphics are amazing, but the time I spend walking around and fighting the same creatures with looooong spurts between fighting is driving me crazy!!!
thinking of switching...which is sorely disappointing since I just bought the game...
Severely frustrated & would love your thoughts.
Thanks
sadly doesn't sound as if this is the game for you :(
having a second account or a friend to buff/heal you gets you moving a bit faster. As does soul/spirit shots. It is a slow building game though, no instant gratification here.
I'm not sure what exactly is bothering you (3 AM reading comprehension is not cool), but if it's the time between hitting mobs, try a dungeon. Play there is more fast-paced and might be your kind of thing.
Also, give a ranged class or elven (either light or dark) fighter a shot, they have less trouble with distance between mobs.
Lastly, if the fighting itself bothers you, it is indeed probably not the game for you.
I dont know what lvl or class you are playing. If you told us we might be able to give you some ideas to help make it a bit more intertaining.
But the grind gets longer and longer each lvl. It doesn't realy get bad until you get to the high 50 and above. Adena is hard to come by and almost everything in the game gets frustrating at times. You either love this game from the start or you don't. If you hate this game already and you haven't done the first job change quest yet you probably wont like it anymore.
Try different classes. I always played mele preferabley duel wield before I played this game. I played a glad to lvl 60. I love the game but hated the class. I am playing a nuker now and totaly love it. Not because it is better at pvp than a glad (I hardly ever pvp 5/1) but because it is deferent and I can do alot more than I could with the glad.
So before you write off the game and give up try some different classes and see what you like best.
Man, I hate arrogant clowns like you. If you don't have something productive to say. Apparently all you mean by "hardcore" is the ability to put time into a game. Congrats, you can sit in a chair in front of a computer longer than someone else. Your mama must be proud.
To the original poster, you can play this game many different ways, but the higher you get the more you need to grind it out. Yeah, there are quests to break up the grind, but in the end it's all about repetition.
This game is not difficult, it just takes time and adena. If you have the adena you can afford better gear, and gear makes all the difference (some would say the only difference). You grind for cash/XP, you get better gear than your opposition, you join a clan/alliance, and you battle it out in PvP for castles, power, glory, territory, and ego. Welcome to L2!
I am putting on my HAZMAT suit, as I can feel the incoming flames. I do not see my description as negative, that's just the reality of L2, and I love it. It has its flaws, but I have been casually playing it since beta and still enjoy it.
Not a flame, just a different viewpoint. Although I don't agree with just telling people to get out, I do think it's important they understand what they face in this game. Difficult can mean different things and I'll argue that L2 is a difficult game.
It's hard because at any time you can lose a LOT of investment. That's not typical of other games.
You can be pked anywhere (except town), anytime, for any reason. That costs you XP.
You can be trained and lose not just XP but items.
You do not get full drops and a ton of money without effort. That's not easy, that's hard.
If you are talking tactics and strategy, that's what's necessary in sieges, but not every day grinding.
So, I do think L2 is a hard game. You have to be willing to understand and accept the limits of the gameplay. You have to be willing to let it go and not give up in the face of losing stuff. That's not something everyone wants to do.
I love the game. I realize and accept it's limitations. I think that's the key to successful gameplay in L2.
So..if the OP can't deal with the limitations, though I hate to lose new players, you should find another game. If you are willing to deal with the difficulties, I think you will find it very, very rewarding.

I failed over-enchanting a crystal staff with mana up before. That cost me around 9 million adena, but I sucked it up and kept going. Now I am a happy owner of many fine things because I found the right spot to lvl and good friends who can help me. Thats what Lineage 2 is all about. Higher lvl ppl who can help you. Playing on your first character can be very hard and frustrating, but with time you will find the downtime between mobs get easier. Also, the name Lineage II. Lineage means bloodline. You need inheritance in this game to make it easy. If you ask, nice people will halp you. Just remember to find a spot where you can grind and kill 15-20 monsters when soloing before resting, or get a healer and make your downtime barely a fragment of that. I hope you enjoy L2 in the coming days, weeks, and months. :D
to get back to the OP--yes-the game gets 'better'. It gets more "involved", more "complicated and complex", more "interactive" and more "challenging". Those things for many people are "better".
Only spend your money on a better weapon--run quests--interact with other players....but for goodness sakes.....just PLAY.
Playing, at anything, is good for the soul (there's metaphysical b.s. for u).
This game offers a lot of experiences. If u stick with it awhile it will probably grab hold of u.
And shame on the rest of you for negativism/reality....half the posts here complain about "there are no real noobs anymore" or "the noob areas are deserted".
Of course they are! Everytime a new player looks for some encouragement some fruitcake tells them to quit......brilliant.
Ignore the negatives, friend. The game can be a lot of fun. As u interact with other players I'll bet u find that fun!
Shout at any 'drakkos' player you see--I'm very much a new player and I'll help you out anytime :)
L2 is virtually unique in the freedom it gives us to play as we wish. As a result, the game experience is what we make it. You can make it wonderful. If it isn't wonderful, then it is the player who needs to revise themselves (and their outlook), rather than the game getting changed.
IMHO, far too many people see 'getting levels' as the game goal. L2 is a journey. I think you should enjoy yourself every step of the way, not slip into the mindset that "lvl 20 is better than 10 so I gotta rush." Of course, that becomes, "Lvl 30 is better than 20....50 better than 40...ad nausaum". Enjoy the quests, enjoy the people, enjoy the drama, just enjoy! All of a sudden you will find yourself in B grade.
If you read the OPs post, he doesn't like downtime. My guess is he's used to a game with little of it.
If he's asking if the downtime gets better...if you are in a party, yes it does. If you are solo, it only does if you are certain classes. Soloing is lonely and if you can get to a bit higher level past your first class change quest there are many partying opportunities that will make downtime easier.
I think players are much happier with the game if they look at things realistically. I certainly am happy when someone gives me a real answer to a question I've asked. I know what playstyle I like. I'm suprised you have a problem with realism. I don't believe in sugar-coating and lying to new players about the game. I think it's counter productive.
I want them to stay around...but people who hate that type of gameplay aren't going to anyway, or they may take shortcuts to easy leveling and adena that are not exactly good for them and the game to take.
But I think it's a wonderful game and I think it's very rewarding. I'm playing it and I intend to continue playing it. I hope the OP finds it rewarding as well.
np with realism--i agree with everything u r saying. My reference to 'fruitcakes' was aimed at the "then quit" answers to a legitimate question.
It seems rather obvious that telling new players to quit when they are seeking encouragement is counterproductive.
I appreciate your candid answers, Jute...and I agree that 'downtime' can be frustrating.
I wouldn't say, however, that 'downtime' somehow defines playing L2....I would say GRINDING defines L2 (lol).
I would say "expensive gear" defines L2 (if u let it). I would agree that "open architecture guarentees getting pk'd" is a description of L2 play.
But if we're going to 'tell the truth' to new players w questions--let's tell them all the truth as you attempted, Jute.
That's all I'm saying.
Let's also tell them that community and interaction is a blast. That there is lots of humor.
That each new monster encountered provides a challenge for learning how best to kill it.
Hey--I'm ALL for realism and honesty...as long as those answering summon the intellectual integrity to tell all of the truth. The 'rest of the truth' is, as you've also said, that parts of L2 are great...if u let them be (i really agreed with the comment about this being a journey).
To the OPer--define your own game within L2. You don't have to play like others. Enjoy lvl 10 or 15 or where ever u are.
Yep I agree, my first impression was the exact same.
For more then 1,5 year ago I started out on a private server(Yes I know, kind a lame :) ) and my first evaluation was .... what a lousy game :(
I got killed all the time, the mobs broke my spells, I dident have any adena, diedent know anyone, got stuck all around, had a loooong down time regenerating HP and MP.
so I actually stopped playing.
Then I had a friend who played, and he had some party friends 2-3 more and we started partying. He also helped me out on some better gear. So the evolution process of L2 started...... and today I'm totally hooked to the game.
Good **** I love it and it gets even better each day :)
So start making some friends, see if you can join a clan and go party hunting.
There are so many things in this game that you don't even dream about it, or realize it until you get part the first class change and above.
The cool locations, the new C4 AI for the mobs, the cats./Necros./Dimentional Rift ..... The cities, the dungeons, bots, the PVP, the PK, the raid bosses, the whole trading system...... and the crown on L2 THE SIEGE !!!!!!
Thats just some of the comming parts of the game :)
I sure hope you give it a try, and if you need any help just let me know :)
