Ok I know some people are gonna have something to say about this but. I suck at comming up with name's. I have decided for the time being to just re-roll my current SE but this time I'm gonna go with a female. My question is could you guys just start posting a whole bunch of names...or a website that would have a good list of names. Thanks in advance.
I've always been a fan of picking a word from an obscure language. Try any online language tool.
Leaves tons of possiblities, and the chance for the occassional "hey, that's cool" comment from someone who recognizes you :)
look around your living spaces. foods; beverages; holidays; any combination thereof. possibilities are endless .. and they do not have to be 'race' specific. other languages are a good suggestion, just be cautious about vulgar, rude, or obnoxious meanings. you don't want to be pk'd every time you step out of town because your name means 'something a cat would throw up' in a different language. maybe something from your local candy market?
Anyway... When I have to find a name for a new char, I sometimes go through lists of "foreign" names (any language other than germanic languages). Mostly Greek and Roman names/gods. Google it.
Got to google and do a search on "baby names". You will find many sites that have large lists of names for both men and women. In some cases you will find other cultures as well as some names found in literature.
PavlovsDog - I picked this name because this game is similar to a study in mind control.
GovmentCheez - I was watching an old 70's sitcom and they called some welfare kid this and I about shot my beer out through my nose.
ChesterMcNutbag - I couldn't think of anything cool to name him, and this was going to be a seed alt... (Now my main)
HurricaneHannah - Kind of a cross between being named after Bob "Hurricane" Hannah, the supercross legend, and the Hurricane Katrina that had wiped out a large chunk of the Gulf Coast the week that she was created.
The trick to coming up with names is to pull a memory from your life that suits you. You would be surprised how many people see me run around on Pav and yell out !DING. I usually give a prompt, courteous reply of !/drool.
... so that would be, for example, "Chichi", "Oppai", "Dekapai", "Mune", "Houkyou" and so on in Japanese. :) (Warning: some of those might be quite offensive or even vulgar)
On a more serious note, most DE NPCs seem to have normal, English names or something vaguely similar to that - Jasmine, Altima, Marion, Krispen, Kayleen, Payne, Iria, Roselyn, Rayla, Jeanine and so on ...

Seriously, I always have difficulties finding names for my characters myself. I usually put sound together (like for Esmera) or just think of a real name and change it a little.

Choose your favourite movie series or book and pick a name ... endless possibilities, like Starwars, Startrek, LoTR, ...
Or visit some "exotic" country and find their name calendar on internet.
I created name on my alt by searching "Goddes name" on google :D
Or use descriptive names much like my forum name, which is referring to my EE's heals. This is common in some fantasy and -I think- is a bit derived from indians (runningtiger, sprintingbear etc etc).
A good fantasy example of many of such names is "Elfquest", a very nice comicbook about wolfriders (elves) and trolls in a human populated land. The wolfriders there are called "Strongbow" (obviously the archer), Cutter (referring to his knife), Skywise (always studies the sky) etc etc.
yup, books work well, though you may need to modify them a bit if the book is popular.
I'm lucky, my traditionaly nom de plume on forums or what not is Iskandar, and is usually untaken. ya know, i forget where that came from now.
just whatever you do, don't just name your chartacter a random assortment of numbers and or letters. everyyone will assume you're a bot, and you'll get pk'ed. a lot.
