Event GKs and Guildsman: Kudos to NCSoft!

General Discussion Started Last reply 23 posts
I just like to thank NCSoft for giving us those event gatekeepers and guildsman with the entrance of C4. We may criticize poor NCSoft on the forums all day, but it seems that such a simple implementation (although temporary) is sometimes what all the players really need. Well you finally did something right this time, fellas. I started counting how much I saved with the Event GKs and how much more money I gained by finding some cool new quests for extra $$$ halfway through the event-- I saved 200k off of teleports a gained 300k from all the new grinding quests.
God, yes. Those cats were amazing. Makes me really want to become a Noblesse! :D
I want to add my thanks for this event, too. I truly enjoyed the convenience of the cat GK especially when a couple of areas for my BD 3rd class quest would have been impossible to reach solo. My class quest journey is almost over (thank gawd) and it was put in reach by great tips from this community and NCsoft's event cats.

:)
Greetings,

We may criticize poor NCSoft on the forums all day,

No we don't.

*********.

They do tons of things right, and just a few things wrong.

So what do peeps wanna see on the news ?

523256097 stories about great accomplishments, or than one story of a dwarf who got severly bashed by Antharas... Then got banned for cussing at Antharas.

The puny critics just leave for unofficial boards. The strong ones can take the heat here...

Well, there you have it folks. King of the flaming one liners.

It's the small details that make a great story.

They do tons of things right

Name 10.
1. Character models.
I don't believe anyone will doubt for a second that Lineage II is simply good looking - and the character models shine before even the lovely countrysides. Only sore point? Catacombs, egawds! Got lazy there, huh?

2. Involvement
I've rarely seen a game with so much thrashtalking - which shows how into it people are. If you let yourself go and start cussing about something, that's a sign that it has successfully grabbed you - like any piece of entertainment or art, that grabbing must be L2's ultimate goal. It succeeds excessively.

3. Events
There are all kinds of events. While everyone has two or three events to whine about, most also have three or four events they liked. Knowing their varied playerbase and developing events that address various tastes and are, for the most part, smoothly executed, is a big plus.

4. Toys
Graphics, emotes, the easy-access arena, the dimensional rift, seven signs...

5. Consequent design.
You know if you like the first half of the game, you'll like the rest too. There are no sudden unpleasant changes of pace, no sudden twists and turns.

6. Free Chronicles
They even come with dungeons that feel new (which is good, since they don't look new...).

7. Changing Class Imbalance
Yes, the class balance for any given chronicle is usually catastrophal. However, on a whole we live with the soothing feeling that everyone will be at the top, and someone else at the bottom, at some point.

8. Support
The out of game support team works swiftly and usually well.

9. Learning Curve
Nothing is more frustrating for a slow (or fast) learner to meet the wrong learning curve. Lineage II's is wonderfully self-adjusting (although dealing with people who aren't using the same learning curv as you is unpleasant at best for both parties).

10. The Market
Claim it's broken all you like. This market is workable for a capable player, no matter the circumstances. It's self-adjusting.

I do, by the way, think that NCSoft does many things wrong that simply mustn't be wrong in a game. It's like eating pineapple without removing the eyes - oh, of course it's delicious. But all you can notice is that the eyes are making your throat itch like mad while scratching it in a thoroughly unpleasant manner at the same time. Even if there's more fruit than eyes, the eyes are what stays in your memory.

ETA: But yes, the cats were most welcome.

The guildsmen are permanent. ;) Or should be.
Very few of those can be attributed to the north american/european division of ncsoft, which everyone understood to be the focus of my responce in this specific topic.

Thank you for playing. Better luck next time.
However bonus points have been rewarded to you for pointing out things that were done right BY the player base For the player base, and not by either the parent company nor the one we are forced to deal with daily.

Too bad I will have to take those points away, as it was not your turn to list 10 good things ncna has done right inregards to this game and or the forums. Good meaning, something the majority of player (not board warrriors sweetie) agree'd was the right move. By not your turn, I referance that my reply was dictated to the honorable 'wishes he was a gm but will go crying on blah when he gets repremanded here' dark
have a nice day' motion.
Excuse me, but if you think that the community agreeing something was a good move is an indication that it was actually a good move, you're something I can't say because Mistryl will thwap me on the fingers if I do.

But if you want 10 things that NCNA has done right, whether or not the community thought so, we'll go smaller.

1. Community Coordinators
Both Sarge and Mistryl have done a tremendous job with their obviously limited resources. They've both been highly professional, and helpful.

2. Managing With Limited Resources
If you consider how little they can actually do, it's amazing what they do do.

3. Recovery Time after the Peach/Pumpkin Event
Christmas event, nuff said.

4. Promotion
I don't know how, but Devianne is seeing a steady stream of new players. I can't stand most of them, but whatever they did obviously worked.

5. Out of Game Support
What I said above. They're fast, and competent.

6. Website Updates
They're behind again, but they've added a great deal of useful information and a very nice new design. The community is, without being excessively optimistic, hoping for more.

7. Server Stability
As above.

8. C4 PTS Test Cycle
It lacked some key elements (such as cooperative players) but was on the whole very well thought out.

9. Event Frequency
Aren't you feeling odd now that the last event is out and the next one's not yet announced?

10. Forum Presence
Most of the major players of the NCNA team appear here, and that's very pleasing, even if they don't release enough information for the taste of most community members.

PS: If you want good things that NCNA has done well in response to the community:

1. Slow bot banning.
2. Introducing gameguard.
3. Not stopping scammers or answering in person to in game petitions.
4. Informatino flow.

Not to say: Some things you're trying to blame NCSoft for, the community has nobody but itself to blame for.
1. Character models.
I don't believe anyone will doubt for a second that Lineage II is simply good looking - and the character models shine before even the lovely countrysides. Only sore point? Catacombs, egawds! Got lazy there, huh?
----
While models and textures are pretty, I cant say the same for animations; lacking is a nice word for them.

2. Involvement
I've rarely seen a game with so much thrashtalking - which shows how into it people are. If you let yourself go and start cussing about something, that's a sign that it has successfully grabbed you - like any piece of entertainment or art, that grabbing must be L2's ultimate goal. It succeeds excessively.
====
Play more you will see. Involment is not so high at all. I have seen many legit players in their 60's quitting the game - because it offers nothing so interesting but grind and flawed market. (this below).

3. Events
There are all kinds of events. While everyone has two or three events to whine about, most also have three or four events they liked. Knowing their varied playerbase and developing events that address various tastes and are, for the most part, smoothly executed, is a big plus.
====
Lets see: most events were pure grinding- farmer oriented. Ppl love the mindless pumpkin event because of the larvish rewards (about market again). Arrow run had the possibility to turn into a nice PvP event, did it - no... At least no grind. Morealso the event was extremly flawed designed in the very begining. Due to numerous voices it gets some fix.

4. Toys
Graphics, emotes, the easy-access arena, the dimensional rift, seven signs...
Indeed I like how a human female cries. Soap operas just look clumpsy to that...
=====
Easy access arena is just one of 4; why no ports to the rest (ohh noblesse have them). Dominos (aka masks) are supposed to offer unique style; heh they are more like out-of-style. Same goes for blue names...

5. Consequent design.
You know if you like the first half of the game, you'll like the rest too. There are no sudden unpleasant changes of pace, no sudden twists and turns.
===
Indeed if you love the grind.. nothing would change.

6. Free Chronicles
They even come with dungeons that feel new (which is good, since they don't look new...).
====
Free? You pay fee every month.. That's an investent. It's not free. The most popular RPG upgrades were free for instance.

7. Changing Class Imbalance
Yes, the class balance for any given chronicle is usually catastrophal. However, on a whole we live with the soothing feeling that everyone will be at the top, and someone else at the bottom, at some point.
====
Yes in c3 nukers used to dominate; in c4 they rule supreme. Ahh it seems the sleep was changed again (after it was better on PTS): 60ish TH (in BO) gets 4/4 sleep by D grade and lvl6 sleep. Amazing!! Inded I can buff mental shield w/ spirit staff, indeed!

8. Support
The out of game support team works swiftly and usually well.
=====
Here I LAUGHT the most. Facts: when you pay w/ time card you recive an email of noticafiton. The link to lineage2 boards you receive is bogus. I reoported it 3 times in the last 6 months.. And the effect is zero. The error is a simple exclamation mark in the href. 6 months and not fixed...http://boards.lineage2.com!
Once someone tried (failed) to log on my master account. I was support about and I was advised to change my password, secret question, etc. Beyond lame advice.

9. Learning Curve
Nothing is more frustrating for a slow (or fast) learner to meet the wrong learning curve. Lineage II's is wonderfully self-adjusting (although dealing with people who aren't using the same learning curv as you is unpleasant at best for both parties).
====
Point&Click is probably easy. And I suppose you can call learning curve PvE against mobs only. Since PvP is not so easy to learn, so is the market...

10. The Market
Claim it's broken all you like. This market is workable for a capable player, no matter the circumstances. It's self-adjusting.
====
I laught at the market system and ppl who "play the market". There were many post (some sophisticate and smart, some not) on that. But the "self adjusting" market exists solely because of the resources coming from external sources. The wealth created by normal grind is simply not enough to have a real market. Many times I wanted to write 42 on l2... but it's pointless.

In short NCSoft really must work hell a lot harder to deserver any 'kudos'

p.s
Cats DO blow compared to noblesse ports
Greetings,

You just don't know how to use a board, now do you ?

When you post something publicly, anybody can reply. Who gives a flying [censored] if your question was directed at me, anyone can reply to it. That's how a board works, it's an open discussion.

As for wishing I was GM, it's just not true. I already work in support (not for NC). Although I feel for them, this is the sweet revenge I take on idiotic customers (such as yourself).

As for crying on Blah, well I also cried on L2rpa.org, and on the Warcry network... Just the flavor of the time. I think the current community manager can handle a dog without kicking it (this shows compation and care for the customer). Anyways, you can't really silence a dog, specially not by kicking it.

I, on the other hand, can bark at and bite whomever the HELL I want. And trust me, nobody is safe.

As for your 10 reasons, you said you were looking for what players agree'd on (yet you direct your question to an obvious board warrior and won't take any other answer but from him)... Why ? Are you being stupid on purpose ?

The short and the long of it is that if you want to see only the things that NCsoft does right or only the things they do wrong, you'll wind up looking like a *******.

I made a list of 10 things that went well - and as amply demonstrated, the next person might think they didn't go well. When I am in contact with support, they're swift and to the point: Sucks it's not the same for you, but isn't it great, from your point of view, that it's not the same for me?

Yes, NCSoft makes mistakes. Many of them. A ton of them! So many you want to hold your head and groan.

But they also do things right, and most of those are difficult to quantify in a list. It's the fanatic attempt to be open and involved with the community without starting to give out too much information**, the way the events - if you don't like grind, by the way, you are in the wrong game - follow each other in an up and down of balance and style.

Lineage II is still, to me, a game. When there are days where I log in and I don't feel like I like playing, I'll get nothing done - but I'm steadily creeping forward again now, and enjoying myself in the process. Creating a grind game where this is possible is difficult - it's not as easy as sticking high level requirements into a graphics engine and tacking a battle system on.

At the same time, of course there are many things with the game that are absolutely catastrophic.

But frankly, if those things outweighed the enjoyment, I'd have been out of here a while ago.

* I blame Blah for the decline of my English.

** Yet another thing we have only ourselves to blame for. Need I say PTS wipe?

PS: If you mean me with board warrior, you should check just how much I've been posting recently, kthxbai.

PS: If you want good things that NCNA has done well in response to the community:

1. Slow bot banning.
2. Introducing gameguard.
3. Not stopping scammers or answering in person to in game petitions.
4. Informatino flow.

I thought these are bad things that NCNA has done. The good things would be:

1. FAST bot banning.
2. Removal of gameguard (it's an exploitable trojan crap).
3. Stopping scammers and FAST answering in person to in game petitions.
4. GOOD information flow (why can't i see the actual game events/the library from community interface inside the game?).

Why ? Are you being stupid on purpose ?

I doubt he has that option.
Maline, I agree with you totally. Well done, NCSoft.

I am not going to say that I consider the whiners to be totally immature, ill informed idiots because that would be inappropriate.
GET OFF MY THREAD, HATERS!!! :D
1. Remember when people whine about false positives and how outraged people are when an innocent gets banned? Yeah, that.
2. Remember before we had GG? People whined about all the botters and how if there was a protection tool against it we should have it.
3. Remember all the crying of corruption and favouritism? Hello non-interference policy.
4. Remember the outrage at the PTS wipe? Say thank you to the trickle of information flow to your own complaints.

GET OFF MY THREAD, HATERS!!! :D

Now your just asking for more flames.
You are so cute when you are angry.
