With the implementation Chronicle 4's new in-game recording system, I feel that this board should have a thread dedicated to sharing those replay videos. Whether they be grinding videos, PvP, humorous content, or even How-To guides, we should be able to share them on this thread.
To all those that are unfamiliar with replay videos, here are the basics:
1. Well gosh-golly gee, Dr. Box of Fox, what is a replay video and how to I record one myself?
A replay video is a video that is recorded in-game without having to use programs such as fraps. As long as whatever is being recorded isn't hours long, these video files are small and easy to download. When in-game, if you wish to start your own replay video, simply open up your status window and go to the Actions tab. Then browse the various buttons until you find it.
The advantages of a replay video is that when viewing one, you are actually in the place of whoever recorded it. You can move your camera around and zoom in and out, just as if you were actually playing.
The disadvantages are that it is a dramatized feature-- player's names, summons, pets, chatboxes, skill boxes, and other sections of a video are removed when you view one, so that it looks more like a movie than like a ingame recording.
To view your own replay videos, log out of your account and then go to the bottom right corner of your login screen. Press the "replay" button, and the file of the video you recorded should be there.
2. Okay, I recorded my own replay video and I want other people to see it. How do I host it?
Its easiest to host on a site such as Fileplanet (http://www.fileplanet.com/gsid.aspx?r=http%3a%2f%2fwww.fileplanet.com%2fsubm itfile.aspx) or RapidShare (http://rapidshare.de/)...The file that you would like to host is located in the Replay folder of your Lineage II directory. If you can't find a Replay folder in your directory, its probably because you haven't created any videos yet. The moment you start to create one, the game will automatically create a replay folder for you.
3. How do I view other people's videos?
Simply work backward-- download the other person's video file into your own Replay folder and then load your Lineage II client. Instead of logging in, go to the bottom right of your screen and press the Replay button. You should be able to see the file you downloaded there, along with any other videos you might have recorded yourself.
(Once I can actually get on the computer where all my files are, I'll host a few to start us out. Meanwhile, feel free to start posting your own replay videos!)
Okay, I'll start us off with a grinding video-- here, I was on my alt doing some basic polearming with a few friends.
To new players-- observe the role that each person plays in this group. There is the polearmer, who does the main damage of the group. Two healers, who make sure the polearmer stays alive, and a wizard, who works to both support the group's damage and at the same time heal in emergencies.
In this group, multiple mobs (who also have 4 times the regular HP of any normal mob, this is true for all Catacombs and Necropoli) are killed at one time with the polearmer pulling rooms of mobs and then trapping herself in a corner, so that she can group them as close as possible together. The closer they are. they easier it is for her to hit them all with her polearm.
(Scroll down and press the "free" button. Then scroll down again and enter in the required security code and press enter. A download window should pop up after that)
sigh, soon as NCSoft fixes the missing summon/pet problem, I'll be glad to share some of my grinding replays. actually, I may share one anyway, it is rather fun to watch mobs fall over for no apparant reason :).
if you cant find it inside your lineage 2 folder, then just create one ^^; should work.
Or just go and make your 1st replay: the folder will be created for you then.
Right-- the replay folder doesn't exist until you've created one. To create one, make a replay video yourself by logging onto your character, going to the Video option in your skill list, make a quick one and then a replay video should show up :D
Does anyone happen to have some replays laying 'round? Doesn't matter what it contains, sieges, raid bosses or even yer average grinding. I'm just curious about other classes' playstyle.
Sorry 'bout bein vague, it's a problem of mine :).
I was wondering if there was any way to record ingame..but with the interface? All the ones I have seen have no interface. If you can, how would you do it?
I can record and replay my own videos but when I download any of the above files, save them in my replay folder and try to play them, it causes L2 to crash and I get a critical error message. Is this happening to any of you? Any idea how I can fix this?
replays recorded with a c4 client can only watched with a c4 client, same with c5. a c5 client cannot play a c4 replay cause the files are not compatible.
Replay "videos" are not really videos that are viewed with a normal video player application (such as VLC or WMP).
Replays are captured packets of the Lineage2 game client, and can only be "replayed" with the Lineage2 game client itself.
Download the .l2r file you wish to view, to your "X:\Lineage2\Replay\" folder (X:\Lineage2 being the drive and folder you have Lineage installed to), and when you start the client, choose "Replay" from the bottom right buttons. You sould see the file name in a list there. Just choose it and play it. It will be as if you are there watching the action from the player who recorded the replays vantage point.
Right, so if someone gives you an l2r file, you have to put it into your replay folder, start up the game, and watch it from the button at the login screen.
Sorry for the delay.
The replay folder is in your system folder in your L2 folder.
You'll have to find someplace to upload it. Try to google for free file upload or something - or maybe someone here can reccomend a place? Or maybe you know someone who has an ftp server, that can host it for you? I wonder if you can upload l2r files to photobucket...
Hello, I was wondering how can you upload a replay vid? The people in L2guru can do it and how can you custom a replay vid before uploading it, like adding music and such?
You have to have a host to upload it, like filefront or something.
And the people on l2guru don't upload replays, they record either straight from game, or from a replay with FRAPS, then use a video program like Sony Vegas to add music and edit it.
Aside from having each client on your computer or recapturing the video with another program, I don't know of a way to watch old C4 and C5 replays. This is an annoyance with every chronicle. What is it that keeps them from making the videos backwards compatable?
Speaking of software, aside from FRAPS, what other programs are recommended for capturing gameplay video?

Changes to the maps, changes to the textures/models. If you ever watched a replay of e.g. a siege or any other situation which causes performance problems for the computer you watch the replay on, you will see that it is not a "movie", it is more like a scripted reenacting of what happened (like "player x moves three steps forward" or something like that) - when the computer cannot keep up, you will see people running into walls and stuff like that.
So the replay contains information about what happens, and that does simply not fit to changed maps (that causes replay problems like people stuck in the floor) - also things like changes to textures/models will cause problems, when the script contains information like "show one player of race x class y wearing armor z", and that does not fit to the new game client (that's when you get things like giant bunnies hopping around).
I'm trying to find videos I took last night... but they aren't showing up in the Replay list. I checked the files in Windows Explorer to confirm they're there... and they are. Is there a maximum amount of replay files the box can display? Will I need to delete some old files. I'm such a packrat... and I guess if there is no way to ever view these files again (which is sad cuz now I've forever lost my ingame wedding videos from last year) I should just delete them. Pls help... I need to fraps an ally event we had last night and get it up today.
I deleted a crapload of old files out of the replay folder... and the files I was looking for popped up. So I'm guessing I exceeded some sort of limit. :) Mystery solved.
Interesting. I have played L2 for 2 years and did not know you could share replay videos. I think this should be promoted more. I only used the replay recorder one or two time (just to see what it was) because i didnt think you could share them. GET THE WORD OUT NCSOFT...and if possible make it easier to share them.
That's what happens when the replay doesn't match the version. It won't let you play improper version replays any more but it use to, to hilarious disasterous results.
The traps of an Arbelester are indentified as a mob, the DE you saw running around kept trying to run away yet he kept getting pulled towards the placed traps (you can't see traps, unless in party, let alone attack them)
If you had the text on you can see the DE got annoyed he got pulled back everytime (just dumb he didn't turn off his '3rd party software')
What is it that keeps them from making the videos backwards compatable?
this is due to the way it records... it doesn't record video, it just records everything that happens (basically the same info that is up/down loaded from server during gameplay), then replays it through your clients files/graphics, so if any map/textures ect are changed they would fail to work...
they proably could make this backwards compatable fairly easily, but they'd have to have all old versions of all textures/maps ect along with the current versions for your L2 client, which would eat alot of disk space.
guys, sorry for nekropost, watched that purp (http://boards.lineage2.com/member.php?u=136171) movie on youtube, innadril siege, and appear question: how make slowmotion in l2 previewer? oO

press + or - to speed up or slow down replay
Found these a few weeks ago, its from when i played in Chronicle4 (i think?).
It's from the Gustin server, Clan: Synergy, one of the best clans ever made! Much love <3
Want to teach me how to target people before they even load (or before you turn your screen)?
Or maybe how you target people so fast behind you (faster than you turn your screen) when your current target is on undying will?
Watch your buffs, you didn't Harmony on the boss when you started it. I think you got over-buffed.
Don't use Clones on boss until its self buff is down, if they die he gains 20% health just like tyrr does.
