on the hotbar

i noticed that sometimes on my hotbar at the end, near the rotate button is another button. it has 4 dots in a general diamond pattern. they don't seem to do anything. do they have some special significance that has not been presented yet? and how do i get it off? or do i want to keep it?
I think it has to do with whether or not you are using a keyboard or using a game controller. Just an indicator. That's what I've read anyhow.
hmm.. but i always use my keyboard and mouse.. nothing else.
I see it sometimes, but really, it isnt a bother, but i am curious to know its purpose.
Ok.. this is the thread.. thought I was going daft.

I think if you plug in a game controller that icon changes.
no, that can't be it. I've never used anything but keyboard and mouse, i have nothing that l2 even would consider a gamepad. however, occasionally it shows up, occasionally it does not. and I don;t necessarily have to log in and out of the game for it to show up, porting from place to place does it too.

doesn't seem to DO anything, so while I've been curious about what it is, I never got around to asking anyone.
see and i have always use my keyboard and mouse. i don't even have a game controller (like for playstation or xbox). sometimes it's there..and sometime it isn't. would hate for it to be a tracking monitor of some sort..
I have seen it too. I never realy paid much attention to it. Couldn't figure out what it was for. Maybe it is something in the game design that isn't suppose to be implemented yet or was taken out but the icon still pops up now and then.

would hate for it to be a tracking monitor of some sort..

how do we know when you are doing something not silly?

it was a curiosity, and i thought i'd ask around because i had not seen anything else about it. .. could it have something to do with the options setting in your systems set up?
