So I am new to the game and about to become a Cleric and was wondering, Which is the better way to spec for armor, Light Armor or Robes? I am still not sure if I will be a Prophet or a Bishop. Will the cast speed when wearing light armor ever reach that of robes? Also any other cleric tips would be spiffy (and rerolling as a SE doesn't count ;) ) Anyways Thx for any help I get.

Casting speed in light will never be as fast as robes. It's close though. Light armor is fine for a while, I used robes until 20, then manticore until 35. At that point I was playing sole healer and buffer in Cruma and I needed robes for the extra mp. Haven't used light since.
Just so you know... (I was confused about this at first)
The increases of light armor mastery only happen at level one of that mastery. What I mean is that the "Increases Casting Spd., Atk. Spd. and MP regeneration when wearing light armor" part of the light armor mastery does not increase as you level it (only the pdef goes up with level of mastery).
These effects are just to almost offset the negatives from not wearing robes; the cast speed bonus in light armor is 91% of the bonus from robes and the attack speed and mp regen are the same.

Ahh cool thx for the posts they really clarify the issue and here I was hoping that wearing light armor at a high mastery would have me casting faster than a god. Lol well I can still dream...
Ya when reading the skill lists it looked like the mp regen on light armor just kept going up so I wondered if it offset the loss of robe mp. Maybe just adding, At only 1st lvl in light armor mastery so and so happens, would help newer players keep from looking so newbish when asking questions lol Thx again :D
Usually armour bonus like that give you an extra boost every special moment in lvls. Like when you first learn weapon mastery you get a huge p atk bonus, then from then on its only 2-3 p atk each time, then when you hit the magic numbers you get a boost of 30 p atk, i dont know if this is the same for light armour clerics tho, learn the lvl 40 one and watch your atk speed, see if it changes.
