The Lotto

No one uses it, and no one plays it. It's a great side feature in the game thats being under used.

I think it's about time we did something about that! The current layout of the lotto system just doesn't work but why? Why aren't more people playing it?

Are the winnings not enough? The jackpot not big enough? From my understanding the more people that buy tickets the bigger the pot. So why aren't people buying a lotto ticket?

Why aren't you buying a ticket?

And how do we keep it from the "Third party players"?
i once bought a lotto ticket for 2k and won 20k.

played ~8 times before winning though, not really worth it :p cant the NPC's play to raise the pot?
because the jack pot is small and the tickets are exspensive.

What they said.

because the jack pot is small and the tickets are expensive.

What do you feel is the right amount 1000 adena or do you feel it should be less?

And what if instead of ticket sales making up the pot size, a given amount of the castle tax was used?
Well, let's put it this way.

I never play the "real world" lottery. EXCEPT when I see the pot is up to many millions. Why? Because it is more fun.

But to buy a ticket and get a pittance for a reward. Nah... just doesn't appeal to me.

Maybe they should attach the lottery to the castle holders. (is that what you are saying splatter?)

The castle holders can choose to invest a percentage of the taxes into the pot. People can view what the pot is when they buy the ticket.

With a more substantial pot, more people will buy at least one ticket and the castle holders and the winner will split the drawing in some way.
I'm just trying to come up with a better idea then the current system because no one is using it.

Say in each town that tickets are sold for 1000 each, the money collected from ticket sales would go to the castle lord of each town. Ether the contribution rate would be a fixed amount within the adjustable tax rate or it would be an adjustable rate just like the current tax rate system.

The adena contribution of each castle lord would go towards the servers lotto pot. Any non winning weeks would roll over to the next week.

If anyone sees any short comings or issue with this idea, please speak up and tell us why?
I'd like to see any of the adena sinks go towards the Lottery. GK fees for example.
Could anyone thats ether in a clan or is a castle lord post what collections they receive from what areas in the castle tax?
This is what they should do.

They should charge roughly 500 adena per ticket.. with a maximum of 2 tickets that you can purchase.

The percentage that the tax rate is at is removed ... the rest goes into the pot..

lets say 25-40% of ALL world NPCs be it through feight with warehouse keepers... buying goods through shops... armor/weapons... using the GK is all put into the pot (budabing... whopping large jackpot is now in session)..

by then i'd expect each jackpot to be worth in the serveral hundred thousands to millions +...

Additionally, each day that passes (a full 24 hours for us.. not ingame time) is a 10% compounding interest on the total so far collected pot.

Each draw is friday midnight (our time, not game time)..

This should allow the pot to grow to a significant value...

Keep the lottery chances lower yet.... say ... 26 numbers... with 5 sets..

so:

12-23-9-26-1

That way the chances are still reasonable.... but not excessively high

The percentage that the tax rate is at is removed ... the rest goes into the pot..

So a given amount of the tax rate would go into the pot, do you feel it should be a fix or adjustable contribution rate? And do you think a castle lord should have any options in the setting of those rates?
i think adjustible would be reasonable..

see i think it would be a %tage that they place on all taxable things.... That way when one castle owner sets it to 15.. and another sets it to 5... that both put the similare percentage in.. (which means no one loses more then the other.. nor does anyone gain more PER)...

Also means that if there are very few people purchasing from own town.... and lots in another... they both put in a similare Percentage...

That way no one is complaining really.... except for the poor lotto losers (most likely myself with terrible luck)
Just how is the castle tax applied to any item or service?

If i walked into a town with a 5% tax rate and sold a weapon for 100,000 i get that in my pocket, just where and when are they collecting the 5% tax?

Any castle owners out there that can shed some light on this?
imo, all money spent on gatekeepers in giran should go the to the lottery..

then ppl prolly would buy a ticket ^^
I was just thinking of using the taxes to fund this, but i'm thinking more and more the money spent on the gatekeeper would be a far better route.

I know that the korean version had this thing about gambling.... Do they even have a lottery ingame?
no not private store shop items .... they aren't taxed i know this

But if you say bought a weapon from the shop npc's.... then they are taxed.... all that tax is then put into the castle owner pot...

From that pot, i'd say the entire pot is then taxed a %tage and that percentage is thrown into lottery..

For example.. if someone buy a 1000 adena item from npc.... and the castle owner tax is 10%..... then 100 adena is taken by the castle owner...

From that.. lets say the lottery taxes that 100 adena.... 10%..... so 10 adena taken from the castle owners 100 adena and put into the lottery pot..

Did i make sense this time? Sorry i'm bad at explaining things quite often.

So all store related NPCs have that lottery tax...

No one usues it because just like in real life the lotto is a tax on people with a poor grasp of probability.
I was confused a little by your early post, but you made alot of sense and now i see what you mean.

If we did go the %tax route i don't feel we would get enough influx of adena into the lotto pot.

I still wonder if korea has a ingame lotto system.
How about a part of the GK fees (maybe 1%) go into the lotto pot. That should turn into a nice chunk of change.

Why not more... say 50% or 100%...

I mean does the castle owner see any of that money? If not then who does?
The castles do get some of the GK fees but I only suggested 1% because so many people port. It would be interesting to see stats compiled to see how much adena the GKs pull out of the game. Of course it will never happen but it's one of the things the piques my curiousity/

They should charge roughly 500 adena per ticket.. with a maximum of 2 tickets that you can purchase.

I'm at odds with that. Half of me says that we shouldn't have a limit, the other half of me says that this would prevent the botting of the lotto.

So far we have had a good amount of views, i just cann't believe so few have any thoughts on this. :(
Question: It's said after each drawing that if there's no winner the jackpot will be added to the next drawing, however it never rises? Is this a bug or intended? If it actually would be added to the next one it would get more interesting each round. This way it's plain boring.
I would have to take a guess and say it does....

The jackpot rolls over to the next one, but if no one ever buys a ticket it has nothing to roll over too so it stays the same. Their basically is no infusion of adena, thats why if say 2% of all adena that flows throught the gatekeeper could be added to the lotto pot.

We could have a jackpot in the millions....billions.
remember when you buy a lotto ticket it also says your luck will be reduced or something like that. Its hard enough to get any kind of drop let alone having your luck reduced.
i'm going to have to go read that again.. but.... ****.. if that is indeed true.... wtf..

How and why would your luck be reduced if you bought a ticket..

sad

i'm refering to only the store NPCs.... other npcs.. such as the Gate Keeper, the tax that a castle owner has placed, they receive... The rest goes into the bot.... this hsould produce plenty of money for the jackpot.

And ever time the lotta isn't won... a 10% increase of the total pot is applied.. then transfered to the next lotto....

I just went and bought a ticket, and i didn't find that any where.
