raider wild sweep question

I was reading the description of wild sweep

Uses a pole-arm weapon to strike multiple enemies.

A person can only select one monster at a time to fight, just how does a person strike multiple monsters with one hit?
That's what a pole weapon does, it hits multiple mobs. The tighter you group em the more of em get hit with each swing.
Ok... This is my first time playing a raider.

I had two bears attacking me, but i only had one selected for fighting. I did wild sweep and the other bear didn't take any damage.

Now i just did this once so i haven't fully given it a better test, but am i missing something here?
The pole might have missed on the other bear, I guess. But if the mobs are close together, there is nothing special you need to do to hit multiple mobs. Hell you don't even need your Pole skills to hit multiple mobs. Just get a few close, and start whacking and swinging on em and you'll see all take damage.

Poles were nerfed in C4. Since you have Pole Mastery skills you hit far more accuratly than say someone who does not have Pole Mastery. However, even with Pole Masteries, the Accurasy/Hit rate is not 100%.
Wild Sweep is the low-powered, pre-40 version of Whirlwind.

It is a special attack, which does some additional damage to mobs within its range. Whirlwind does four-times damage (at higher levels) to all surrounding enemies in melee range. I saved my SP to get whirlwind and didn't train WildSweep.
It burns MP, and the damage is about what a DSS would give.

But.. You should practice the ordinary polearm attacks until you position yourself and the mobs so you hit multiples with your polearm. It takes a bit of practice. If you aren't hitting, for example, both bears, retreat just a bit, wait for the mobs to advance, then hit again. You can also switch your target without moving to see if that gives damage to both.

Once you are giving damage to both bears, WildSweep, if you wish to use it, should target both bears as well.

Although nerfed in C4, I find my pre-40 dwarf can still hit three mobs with a pole, just like C3. Oh, make sure you have Polearm Masteries trained.. Perhaps that is obvious... (but I have made this mistake on other skills.)
I gave it a shot again.... And wow, this time i did do damage to both bears with wild sweep. Being my raider can go swords/blunts/pole arms, i'm thinking i need to make a few weapon equiping macros.

How do you other raiders go about it?

Erm, did you read my post above? If you hav Polearm Masteries you will have far greater accurasy than someone who doesn't.

Example: Dwarfs, Orcs, Warlords, Human Warriors all have Pole Arm skills. Hence they hit well.

I saw a Fraps vid of a PlainsWalker rounding up a huge amount of mobs in a Catacomb(mobs were Green to him) and Pole em to death with extreme ease. He said he got so many mobs that the mobs had trouble hitting him. The PW had lvl 60+ SE buffs and barely took damage.

That is what was nerfed. I'd like to see the same PW(or any other) try doing the same in C4 now :p
