I don't know if it's just plain luck or what but me and a friend came up with a theory(spelling?) That when your enchanting your weapon after 3 or 4 you should wait a few days before trying again.
try to explain a little better. Me and a friend have tryed upping our swords usually to +4 then we wait a day or two then up it to +5 then wait a little longer then get it to +6 and so on. Is it just luck that we havn't broken it or does waiting longer to upgrade it make a difference?
Plain luck. There is nothing that affects the enchanting chance.
Agreed... I've taken weapons from +0-+7 within a day. I've gone from +10 to +12 one right after another. Just the other day, I blew up a weapon going to +15 even i waited a couple of days to try. Just plain luck... I'm even wondering if the server keep tabs on the number of OE'd weapons on a server like they only allow a certain number of +10 weapons or a certain number of even +16 weapons. I mean they say there is a 60% chance of a successful enchant right. That means that you have a better chance of it failing than succeeding, right? So why aren't there more OE'd weapons out there?
To make a weapon free of choice, from +4 to +16 in ANY situation you will always succeed (theoretically, since its always a certain chance every single enchant can succeed and fail...) 0,5% of the times.
Or in other numbers out of 1 594 323 weapons you try to go +16 with, 8192 of them will go +16. The rest will blow up :)
This is the general stuff, some people just have luck, some people dont. But over time, this is whats going on when trying to go +16... (:
Beware, possibility and probability is two different things ^^
Just like anyone else, I too would like a lil more oomph out of my weapon. Doing calculations the other day I came up with some depressing numbers.
1. Good to go
2. Good to go
3. Good to go
4. %66
5. %43.5
6. %28.7
7. %18.97
8. %12.5 Here I found this curious as it is a one-eighth chance. Which you could possibly take as; to reach this point, if you had started with eight weapons, you would prolly have crystallized seven of them by now with only one reaching +8.
9. %8.2
10. %5.4
11. %3.6
12. %2.3
13. %1.5
14. %1.03
15. %.683
16. %.4508 out of 1000 weapons you would only have 4 reach this level of enchantment.
OE is gambling. Never gamble more then you are willing to risk. If through your travels you aquire another weapon, and you have not immediate need of extra cash? Sure, go for it.
An expensive way to go about it is the leap-frog method. Start with two or three weapons(depending on how many you want left over). take all two or three to +3 then take one to +4 if it blows get another and take them all back to +3. Untill you have all weapons at +4. And so on and so forth. Attrition will be maddening though and burn a whole in your cashflow.
Why would you waste so much just to get the better stuff? TOI, Catacombs, Necropolii, etc. They have some nastys there with high high hp. Your average nuker can take out same level creatures in two shots using bsps(I do not want to know what YOU can do, this is just an example). If you wanted to drop them in one shot, well you need a lil more power. Let alone 2xHP mobs or 4x or 6x hp mobs.
I agree with the last post. It's 66% chance to succeed every time...not a decreasing chance each time. +5 to +6 is same chance as +15 to +16, no difference. Just takes a lot of luck to get 13(since first 3 are safe) successes in a row. I can personally tell you that if the success rate from 10 to 11 was around 2.5% as that one post said...I'd never gotten so many weapons to +12. So 66% each time imo.
I don't think he was saying it was less % each time after +4, just that statistically the chances of going from +4-+16 get much lower each OE. So each % should be taken as your chance of going 1-X not from +7-+8.
I've read all these OE posts and everyone keeps saying 66% chance to succeed, but official word do we have on it? some post on the korean website that who knows who put it there. I think it's BS that NC soft won't tell us the exact % like it will make a huge difference. After all this is a game we pay for yet there is so much information with held from us. Whats up with that.

In Korea, they have a section of the site where people ask questions and an NC spokesperson answers them...so I'd assume any answer there is "official" enough...and that's where 66% came from.
The OE rates are in the players guide section somewhere. It is known fact that its a 2/3 chance of success when enchanted. My own personal tests on the PTS proved about a 75% rate but there you go. (loved those +16 duals )
Nothing can be doen to affect these rates, going into the church does not help, pressing up down left right 5000 times does not help, spamming OMG OMG OMG in clan chat does not help. Overall its all about luck and ballz. Big Ballz = Big Glow.

You said it. It really won't make a huge difference, and that's the reason they don't tell us. But I think we as a community have pretty much figured it out. If NCSoft came out today and told us that the exact success rate was 62.8% would it change anything? I doubt it.
i actually pm'd a gm about this issue...he told me its 50/50 for any over enchant step... this was a few months back...so maybe they changed it...but i still take their word on it..
(and even that i know the information..it doesnt help..ive still blown alot of weapons lol... soooo many d/c crystals...)

That's a mistake, I'm afraid. The GMs know very little about game mechanics.
Plain luck. There is nothing that affects the enchanting chance.

Agreed. You can do one a day or a string of a hundred successful overenchants in a single day. It's all pure luck.
I'm even wondering if the server keep tabs on the number of OE'd weapons on a server like they only allow a certain number of +10 weapons or a certain number of even +16 weapons.
I tend to doubt this. I have made two +16 weapons, although on different occasions. One would think if the server was regulating this, that would not be possible. Also, this past weekend, I saw not one, but two other +16 duals of the same type as the ones that I have. It's not outside the realm of possiblity, but again, if they are monitoring this, they have very liberal parameters.
I mean they say there is a 60% chance of a successful enchant right.
I think this is one of the misinterpretations of relevant data. I know the enchant success % is high, but I can't say how high. No one knows.
And there are lots of OE'd weapons out there, but not a lot of ppl who are willing to go higher than +4 or +5. The simple truth is, you can PVE just fine with a +4 or even a +3 weapon. High enchants are usually done by hardcore pvp types, those who solo regularly, and those who re-sell OE weapons.
Re-read your post, we are just looking at in in 2 different ways i think.
1.good to go
2. good to go
3. good to go
4. 66%
5. 66%
6. 66%
7. 66%
8. 66%
so on and so forth.
you have a 66% of chanting it to +4
Once your at +4, you have a 66% chance of enchating it to +5.
Period.
You're of course right, if you have 3 +15 weapons, chances are you will get 2 of them to +16. But normally you dont start there, but at +0.
So to find out the chance of getting a weapon to +16 starting from +0, you have to multiply all the probabilities, thus ending up with 66%^13. And that is what the previous posters correctly listed.
You will have to agree that, starting at 0, the chance to get a weapon to +4 is better than getting a weapon to +16.
