First off im old in this game, been here forever. C4 brought lots of new game functions that are okay, but:
Death = 1% (half with CH, and even less with %rez)
There is only one way to stay out of war, and that is being below 14 members in clan. That is not a whole lot, but you can have lots of those in a Alliance, but still its very hard to stay out of the wars... so basicly Death = 1%
It used to be 4% for a death, and there is a huge difference. Back then you would stay at 2nd bridge for a whole day waiting for a rez. Nobody would ever do that anymore.
Clan Halls are much more common now.
Brez are much more common now.
Bether gear in general makes everyones xp go up faster when hunting.
1 - 40 used to be a month, now its a day. See the difference? And its exactly the same at higher levels hunting.
So what am i trying to say here?
Killing the enemy now is almost worthless. They brez, they click to Clan Hall, they hunt back the xp much much faster AND the loss is so much less now.
Will C5 xp loss be even less?
Will C5 brez be even less money?
Will C5 let you hunt for even more xp over time?
Will C5 make me quit this carebear game for good?
Please quit so I don't have to think about people actually naming their accounts "Player01" and then posting moronic subjects of which they have a mediocre understanding and expect worthwhile feedback. Go eat rice, farmer.
I dunno, but I like more pvp better than knowing I was "hardcore" enough to take away a few hours of someones time...in a game (and that is if they don't BSOE from the high losses).

and can I have your stuff?
No you cant have my stuff cuz i wont quit (and your prolly not on same server or even in my friendslist)
About the more pvp vs important pvp. Thing is why pvp when you know it doesnt even hurt? Is it still as fun, as when you know there is a kid on the other end crying cuz he just lost 5 hours of his life? In my oppinion pvp is fun yes, still its fun even though its not worth the time to kill someone. Thing im saying though is, what will happen later? Will they give away free brez and lower the %loss even more and make it like 0.25? That kid on the other end would only loose one buffround AT MOST. Where is the chalange in that?
by the way... im not a farmer! I even take part in RolePlay events on my server. Yes Im quite good with making up new names for my toons. You dont see me running around with NukeALot or PwnzorYOU.

This is great. 1% death and good rezes means everyone is more willing to flag, meaning more pvp, more fighting, more people willing to be rezzed mid-fight. C3 was the age of the PK. Now, there's no incentive to be pk'ed, since you can fight back and still only loose 1% or less.
Hope that was a misquote Glav, thats what I was saying too :)
And @ player01. More pvp is fun, hunting some "kid" for 3 hours to make him loose 5 hours of work. How fun. Guess I am weird, but I like pvp better than knowing I made some loose 5 hours of time they already wasted. Hardcore indeed.
When you reach a high level and lose even .5% on a death you will feel the burn after a few of those deaths quite easily.
For a lot of classes .5% at 75 and above can mean at least 20minutes of XP time, usually more depending on class.
I think that's still a harsh enough penalty to warrant caring about the res and control how much you're fighting.
At lower levels sure it feels like nothing, can die at level 50 on most classes and get the .5% back within a few minutes.
You are right, consequence free PvP is not that good and fighting people who don't care about the loss cause it's so minimal to them is also not a lot of fun. But really the only people who don't care about dying ever are farmers, leveled by farmers, bot or a combination the above. Those people are a problem in the game for many reasons and not just the fact they don't care about anything they might lose.
The basic deaths are 8% before 40 and 4% after 40 when you reach your second profession. It wouldn't hurt for the XP loss after 3rd profession to go to 2% in similar fashion, but I don't think it makes much difference to characters at that level.
kids rarely cares about 5hrs when they can sit for 10hrs a day in front of a computer. you actually reversed your example coz it's most likely that the kid will go drop someone with limited play time and that person will realize that they wasted an evening to some kids who has too much play time.
i guess sitting around for hours grinding xp is your version of "hardcore", but what's so hardcore about a routine that can be easily programmed?
I play a healer and I never cared for PvP. Besides I am convinced that healers are not ment/made to PvP in the first place (could be me tho but mostly people want me in the back of PvP/PK/Seiges/Raids anyway).
Other then that I dont feel like PvP'ing as I have but limited gameplay time so I rather use it roaming the lands, helping others (clannies mostly) then to go out of my way to get a higher PK/PvP counter.
Being at the back of the siege field is not an inactive part of big-scale pvp. It's the place where you can oversee the progress, keep in touch with your contacts around Aden for progress reports on other fields, rebuff fallen comrades and send them on their way and generally be a vital part of the administrative force - something you shouldn't underestimate...
...sometimes I want to return to my prophet just because sieging like that, was actually more fun, than my current being-an-archer-shooting-at-people-siege-trend. Sure, no direct kills, but a lot of fun, strategy and social interaction during battles, and a better insight into the drama and politics, and an understanding on what some simple planning and restraint/ability to listen to orders can actually do.
Overall, I tend to agree with the op in this matter... L2 is turning into a game of quake, due to a large amount of unrelated factors though, who's total sum is the problem.
I agree with the OP on everything.
You would have thought only a 1% loss would encourage more pvp, sad fact is it doesnt. People are still lame and will not flag in-game. Once a coward always a coward, even if it was 0% death loss they still wouldnt flag, i guess they dont like being smack talked when their lieing on the ground looking up at the sky.
when the game gets even close to balanced then talk about how carebear it is
i have an alliance on my server that talks like the OP
they are all 77/75 playing the most overpowered class they can get their hands on
their xp comes from bot trains or plvl services (that they protect)
their gear comes from raid boss farmers
try playing a class that barely gets .5% per buff round costs a fortune to lvl and can get 5 hitted by nukers 20 lvls lower
then you'll come back here and beg for pvp free servers :P
To the OP: Yes, this is a PVP game. Yes, they lessened the penalty for dying in PVP. So you can't make someone cry because of five lost hours (I seriously think you may want to look into therapy, you have issues that need resolving). But... I think it's more appealing to a broader audience.
Not everyone likes the grind here (I think I read about it five or six times a day), so it helps lessen the impact of some random *****.
Honestly? I don't PVP very often. Never had a taste for it myself. I acknowledge it is a part of this game, and so I've dabbled in it, but for the most part, I pass.
And yes, I siege every other weekend. I'm the back row healer (or, in the case of this last siege, I lead the flag ninjas). I'm not the front line combatant, or even the mid-line archer. I'm the healer. I am not PVP, but I am PVP-support.

What she said :D
Fix gamebalance, ban those who have cheated their way to the top, fix it that killing one much lower then is impossible and then and only then will I support any move that makes PvP harscher.
Strange how every topic sooner or later becomes a discussion about game balance... one might get the impression there's something wrong with it and people are really concerned. :p
On topic: There is only one relevant sentence in this thread.
If you play this game to make kids cry (or do anything else to make kids cry) you need medical attention and not more PvP.

Cal
Uhm yes, I have to agree once more. Notice how most people who cry carebear, like to play the most powerful character with the best goodies so they can kill everybody without any fear for their own safety.
I agree with the OP on everything.

Poeple are lame or coward in your eyes when you put it like that. When I signed up for Lineage2 I did it for the social interaction/possible epics first, Eye-candy second and PvP last.
I like the idea that I can "get" my revenge like any other player who "owned" or "scammed" me but I never had an active desire to just kill kill kill.
I think as a healer that mentality would result in mass-group wipe-outs if the healer just is in there to kick mob-butts not concerning about the rest of the party. Not saying that non-healers are not concerned about the rest of the party. Aka a tank could when concerned hate the living hell out of mobs to regain aggro of a wounded comraid. A dagger could use confuse etc. I think you get the point.
As weyland mentioned I will be at seiges if the clan is signed up and I would take the XP-loses. Just not in the front.
Btw smacktalk is for kids. I am the kind of person that tries to avoid smacktalk even if I am about to virtualy ripe some-ones head off. I consider smacktalk not civialized.
Anyway:
people sign up and that's why the game is what it is. The reason why is differant and that does not make 1 mentality Uber or the next lame/coward.
It's not about striving to make kids cry over hours lost... it's about the fact that dying TRULY FEELS.
That makes you think about what you're doing in the game. It makes it exciting just to travel out to the hunting ground or to another town. It makes every pve session unsafe and you have to stay alert as to not be ganked OR mobbed. Because if you die. YOU FEEL IT.
This is the single biggest thing about Lineage 2. If taken away, this game has nothing left for it.
(The fact that you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do it either, but having the option, even unexploited, is vastly different from not having the option at all. It's a flirt with real life.)
Annoying like dying in Quake, yeah. Would it really MEAN anything? Don't think so... not to me anyway. There would be no adrenaline rush when trying to survive a possibly fatal situation, pvp or pve, and there would be no utter happiness over actually making it, or sadness when failing to survive...
...if there's no death penalty, there's no feeling above the railgun target problem. Reserve that for FPS games, is my opinion. That's the main factor I don't play WoW either, there's just no meaning in the game. And the fact that the opposing sides are pre-set so there's no real community feeling, no dynamic politics.

No risk. no fun eh, look mister bigshot ...
example: play 8 weeks for some nice gear, go test your gear in catacombes, some freaking KID and his highlevel Toon TRAINS yah just for FUN, you die and lost your BRAND NEW gear. is it that "No Risk, NO fun" if you ask me all people doing that may Die for real :/
why lose something in this game when you need to save for weeks te get it, XP lose i can get and don't care but item loss upon dead sorry i can't get it.

I'm kinda new to this but not fighting back to flag yourself may not be as much cowardess as it is gleefully spiteful. If you don't think you have a chance (ie the person randomly attacking you is in heavy armor while your still sporting your squire gear) . . . what better way to "get back" at them than making them red and a better target for others.
then again, I'm kinda new so maybe there is something I don't know or realize. :p
What better way to inconvenience an attacker who you know you don't have any way to beat than to let them go red.
That is why the system is there. As an attacker, how bad to you want it.
Now I see this 1% deal. I assume that is only in a clan war.
Also, as was posted on our forums, part of the appeal is the endgame content and the Olympiad. If people are pvping all the time then it becomes harder to get to the Olympiad. For players with a lot of time, no biggie, you will make it up.
For players who have limited time, they might be a bit more picky on how they play the game.
No, people BSOE as soon as they think they might lose, so no loss to them, they just ebay some more adena to replace the bsoe. Letting people kill you so they are red only happen in low-game, that crap is for noobs. High game no 1 wants to die they are to scared to lose even 1% so they just bsoe or run away. And im not tagging on healers/weaklins im tagging on people i know who can fight back, i like to pvp but i also like it to be fun, theres no fun in killing a support class or someone severly weaker then me.
As for the idea that you shouldnt be able to kill people x amount lower then you, what the hell, so these guys can hit on me and i cant hit em bk? double you tea eff? I mean jeez, send in a zerg of lvl1 to a siege and happily stroll about and attack control towers, untouchable... o.O

forget control towers... lvl 20s running around stunning lvl 75s! (a human tanks stun at lvl 20 does land quite well)
lvl 67, died, never flagged back.... lost my 4% and the ****** turned red.....
i don't have adena to buy bsoe's.. nor do i have or want to fight someone that A is either way to bloody low for me to even remotely see it as a challange..... or alot of the times, there are still 75+'s out there flagging me just waiting to drop me..
And i RARELY ever ever seen ANYONE flag without an entire stacked group (OR 2+) waiting behind him so that if someone does flag back, they can drop him/her on the spot with a single set of hits.
Fun? Exzilerating? Adreniline pumping experience? sure if you had the slightest notion that there was say a 50/50 chance of walking away from it as a fair fight.....
and anyone that says, well if they've got a stacked group, go get your own stacked group and fight back. What are you guys revenge whores?
I dont think that the 1% might be what ppl are scared off but the bloody chance to loose a very expensive part of some very hard to get equipment...
I would not mind loosing 1% at all if not fot that cursed possibility of droping equipment.
Then again i dont apreciate dying to a player 20 lvls higher, that ticks me off, so when they fix those 2 problems, im in :P
When i go hunting i will go solo in a green name area, and often ill see people i dont like or from rival clans, ill go up to them and they will BSOE straight away, before i even do anything, its boring. Even mages will bsoe on sight and they can own me, it just seems everyone these days doesnt want to fight anymore..Maybe they all have hang overs from the PTS, i dont know.
but i personally don't just BSOE straight away on sight of a clan or specific players that i don't trust.. i don't even have a BSOE. In any case, as long as i mind my own business i usually am not bothered.. but if someone flags.. i don't stop... i just usually continue to kill whatever i was killing.... move out of range of the mobs.... and sit...
quite often they tend to continue to flag... mouthing off about whatever... i just ignore it... if they say something that i can respond to, i usually will talk... but for all i care, they can go red on me.... i can let as many people know of this red bastard (several alliances) and what he's wearing and usually a few groups come down and pick them off, take his gear and rez me.
I don't like pvp, i hate pkers (enless they have a **** good reason).... and anyone that drops me usually ends up in the hole....

Why dont you fight back? You might actually win...trsut me its more fun when you fight with honour. Getting people to fight your battles for you is lame, i hate it when people go crying to their alliance for help over personal beef.

isn't that kinda the nature of an allience though . . .you mess with one of us, you mess with us all.
i simply mention that there is some guy with majestic plate armor and a set of blue Dual Damas, probably lvl 70ish, running around in such and such a place that had gone red on me.... feel free to kill and take whatever he may drop.
I have absalutely no disire to fight back. It's just that, some people feel that they must fight back. I couldn't give a -_-. Hell i'll even tell other "enemy" clans that theres this guy from down here that went red... have fun. do what you will..
If anything, i don't mind waiting at least a little while for say a fellow clan member to do a quick rez for me. But it only irks me that someone has some strange desire to go as far as to go red on me by flagging enough to try and get me to hit back.
And another thing i don't get, if someone flags on your say 3 or 4 times.. hell some i've seen come up and do a mortal or deadly blow or some special that takes nearly half if not all of my CP in a single hit..... fair fight is pretty much out the window from there. Specially a low lvl BD with self buffs vs a dou tank and healer probably several lvls higher (even if they were little lvl then i) is no an honorable fight... i'd even go as far to consider it cowardess of them to even flagging...
Honor.... there is no honor in turning red for absalutely no reason.... if you think there is honor.... anyone at thinking that.... is pretty sad in my eyes
Its all about your play style. If you pride yourself on PvP then you shouldnt ask for assistance in an already fair situation. Feel free tho if you get rolled on by a zerg, but when i hear in ally chat how some guy let another pk him cos he was to scared to fight back it just makes me think he is a newb.
On a side note i just found an old video (open beta) i took ages ago on TI, i accidently pk'd my friend in 1 shot at the obelisk and before i knew it a whole zerg of every1 hunting the wolves in the area was chasing me around the whole **** island, man theres like 50 of these little bone dagger wielding fighters chasing me for like 30mins before a mage landed a slow, those were the good old days o.O why cant people be as quick to arms like that anymore.

SIN EATER. No reason, most keep it below 5pks so hardly anything worth the effort drops, if anything drops at all.
you've absalutely nothing contructive at all to post. I've moderated larger forums, and I've Banned not nearly as worse as you.
<3 want somebody else to fight for you again...
seriously you shouldn't be playing a pvp game if you don't like pvp... it's like going to CS and getting mad people kill you when all u want to do is run around and look at the graphics.
I said nothing about honour in flat out killing someone. if a target doesnt flag back i have to leave them, but in my mind i just proved my dominance, like a dog if you think about it. But then what i hate is when that guy who refused to fight me comes rolling up talking smack with all his alliance behind him, going '1v1 me noob c'mon' he blatently has full buffs and is just trying to lure me into a trap. Thats carebear imo.
This game is turning away from its pvp roots, remove bsoe/brez from the game pls ncsoft, and give us back high % on death during pvp/pk.
if someone sees a red.. they usually are that quick to try and drop someone.. i swear.. i've rarely seen a red last more then a few minutes enless they can get to a safe haven where they know they can solo to work the karma off quickly...
But the point is, there is rarely.. RARELY ever any pvping or pking that isn't totally obviously one sided.... either you get pked by a single person who is obviously dozens of lvls higher (newbie zones) or you get nailed by a stacked group vs only yourself or perhaps 2 or 3 others with you who are in no position to even hold off what the other party has.
Some fights i've seen myself, as a spectator, saw a group of 9.. BD/SWS/SE/Bishop/DA/SPS/SPS/Gladiator, walk in and one guy started flagging, (gladiator).. just before the other guy was almost dead, the group of 5 finally tried to heal him and kill the gladiator, at which point the BD danced up a storm along with the SWS.... tank took hold, and the SPS's started wailing on them all, within a matter of 5 seconds, the entire group was just about down.... 2 were left, BD used confused on a mob and let the mob kill the remaining healer in the group and the tank finished off the last fighter. Unfortuneatly the healer dropped due to the mob killing her in the end.... And i was unable to even remotely assist at the time, and if i had, i doubt it would have been soon enough by the time i knew what was going on.

that's a case i would agree with you..
when you've flagged someone.. and they don't commit.. but expect the fight several hours even after you've flagged, fully buffed and backed by a large obvious stacked group.. that's complete BS...
no doubts, i side with you on that kind of thing...

Actually it's nothing like that, and i've already did what i can to report you as a insulting/abusive and unconstructive poster. I don't understand you are all, expect me to fight you on a forum, that's beyond childish.
The game is not like this:
Login, Create Character, Load character, Show up in newbie zone, Tutorial guide says "Grab your gear and watch out for everything in site, if it moves, kill it! Don't do quests, someone may kill you and take everything you've got"
They should replace all the social animation with the typical "croch" grab and another where your flipping the bird perhaps?
Sorry, sarcasm through the roof a bit there no?
When i want to play a game where it involves outright slaughting and trying to find the poor little buggers with 5 life to spare and no ammo, well, ****, i just fire up CS:S and win like i usually do. When i want to sit down and have fun working with a group killing a few monster, dropping a raid boss, getting a few quests done and perhaps have some Arena pvp, i'll load up lineage2.

Your comparison is seriously flawed.
My comparison is fine. CS is a pvp game. L2 is a pvp game. It is just that in L2 you need to lvl to get better. It takes different kinds of skills, but ultimately the point of L2 is pvp.
There is no content to speak of in L2 besides the players. The players is what makes the game great. If everybody was running around hugging eachother this game would be terrible. Thinking you can play this game in peace in your own little world is just stupid. You can't do that. There are always going to be people who will come and harass you. And thank god for them. They make the game intresting.
its a pvp game in the sense of players interacting with each other, that could mean anything from talking to them to buying and selling with them, it does not neccessarily mean log in and expect 24/7 pk festivals.

fair enough, but hideing in your own little corner of the world to lvl is just lame. And with limited resources in game pvp is inevitable (sp?). pvp should be encouraged... calling an alliance to deal with personal problems is just bad, and people that do that kind of think are fun to pk.
Well if they hide in the corner they will never be noticed and we wont even know they exist lol, so long as they dont complain i dont care what they do. Personally i prefer to be in there amungst the muck of death pacts and clan assinations.

yeah but it is the ones who lvl in the middle of nowhere who have never experienced pvp that get owned once in the arena and cry nerf.

Also apparently the ones who don't understand being 3 grades below the attack matters, cry nerf as well
First off im old in this game, been here forever.
You must not have experienced large PVP battles where you get rezd 5 times, with the possibility of losing about 10%. I'm sorry dude, losing 10% on a regular basis at level 77+ (me) would make me quit the game for good. Add to that, at some large sieges you can lose a good 15-20%.
It takes forever to get one percent at 77+, we dont need more XP loss. Why do you think people BSOE so soon? It's because no one wants to lose hours of leveling.
Less XP loss would encourage more fights, that's what I rather have.
i don't cry gank or nerf or whatever the hell it is.. you'll rarely see it..
if someone attackes me for no reason at all other then "i'm bored... you are the only one around at the time of me being bored so you must die", i simply say "no" depending on the reaction they give after flagging once and appearing to expect me to swing away at them.
In any case, if you run into someone that makes a point of ******* you off.. sure go after them, but if you run into me... and i'm in no means bothering you, leave me be....
L2 isn't a PVP game, it's a P+P game... where hordes of people play together and against..... the logic of the game is to create groups and either play for the game of pvp vs others or to pretty much do whatever you wish... not to go outright and pvp and pk at every turn... your making it to much of a FPS type game... get that outa your head that it applies to everyone.... cause you'll never ever win. I congradulate you on your unique play style.. but your kind are few..... and you have a high intent on forcing that form of game down everyones throat basically ******* everyone off while at it.
I think its fine the way it is now. To strict a penalty means people won't flag and won't war they will just bsoe or let you go red. If you want to hurt your enemies then pk them for the 4% lose or train them for their gear yeah they may bsoe away but you know what you just took away their hunting ground so now they have to reorganize and go somewhere else you just took away maybe a whole night of xping taking more then just 4%
