just started playing 3 days ago and I've been working my way through a few quests and such . . . oh yeah, I'm a dwarf . . . and I was wondering what level I should get before making my way out of the starter village and into the dangerous world? Right now I'm level 8 (so close to 9 I can taste it  ).
Any suggestions about gear I should get or a specific quest I "need" to do would be helpful too :D
As for dwarf gear I'm not sure but for moving out of your village you should think about moving out around level 16 but if you want you can usually get right up till 20 when your doing the dungeons with a group of people most go hunting at windmill hill when they are about 16 it helps then get to there second class change faster and since ya gott do it in gludin anyways might as well :)
I know you have the itch bad to get the heck off the island.... but, if you leave now, you will be back in just a few more levels to do your quests. Every thing you need to L 20 is right there and if you don't have a higher level alt , the cost of gating away from and back to the island is cost prohibitive when you are working like mad to make adena for new armor and weaps. Leave if you must but you will be back in a few days a good bit poorer for your short adventure. BTW , have friend help you find Toma when quest time comes round, it can be a real pain solo. Good luck out there.
Just in general, I'd say that as a new player you should "follow the quests."
As long as the mobs for the quests that are available are still green/white/yellow, stick with the area. Since there's no longer an xp penalty for killing green mobs, you don't need to find someplace new to hunt just because you levelled.
In general, the quests that are available send you to kill mobs that are near your level. The exceptions to this are some of the weapons quests at level 10-13, they require you to enter dungeons that are quite difficult without backup at that level, but are very nice for first time players to get new weapons, and soulshot/spiritshots.
The ONLY exception to this would be a dwarf. There are a lot of level 1/2 recipes that don't drop or spoil anywhere in dwarfland, but spoil or drop from level 5-20 mobs in places like elven village or talking island. To get these recipes, you need to either travel, or pay more than they're worth from pcs.
I had my artisan to level 30 before I realized this, and instead of paying for them, I made another little dwarf to go scavenge and hunt these for me :)
Grind it out. with newbie buffs, you should be level 20 and have your class changed in only 2 or 3 days played at best. Use the quests that award newbie soulshot and spam that shot. It's all good.
When you reach that first class change, leave and NEVER return. (Unless it's to hunt b... bo... bbbb.... I just can't say the word).
dwarfs should never ever leave elmore till lvl 20
trust me dorfland mobs are the best xp a dwarf can get and the port back to do job change is expensive
I would do as previous post say and stay in dwarf village till level 19 1/2. Also do the Gatekeeper's Favor quest atleast 3 times. You get tokens for free teleports from gatekeeper for free. Also the quest is repeatable. Keep em you'll be back more than you think.
I would also spoil and sweep everything you can till mana is full again and repeat till your inventory on your character is full. The best you have is to spoil because the recipes like leather pants other non basic material recipes can be sold cheap to store. The basic material recipes leather, braided hemp and so on will sell for 50k. Do not craft anything at all and don't sell your mats till you know what class you are going to be.
I have created 2 ws,and 2 bh and can tell you sweep and spoil may get you usless mats and recipes. When you sell them to the store you get back a little bit and and every bit counts. think about it this way, kill mob your level maybe a few adena. Get a spoil too on the recipe, you sell to shop for equal or more value. You can double your income easy every hunt. Spoil and sweep all mobs to see what gives the best materials like coal, varnish, iron, stem and charcoal. These are all used for everything all the way to s grade so ppl will need. Hope this helps you out.
Why would ANYONE choose not to play a dwarf ?
You can only play a Dwarf, or you can play the lesser races.
If it would be possible (mobwise), Dwarves should never ever leave Elmore, and no other race should be allowed there (e.g. if killed, all other races, should respawn in the land of Aden, not on Elmore.)
They say that you should choose a toon that you'll never get tired looking of at . . . who could get tired of the cuteness that is the dwarf?
Dwarves are also important members of the community, as they are needed for either crafting or gathering . . . and they sound sooooo cute when they do the "victory" emote :D YEAH!!!!!

Let me correct something: Dwarves are unneeded for the community. BH ?... Providing materials is done through manor system. Rare A recipes through quests available to anyone... but 1/50 A grade is actually crafted, 49/50 A grade Items are from raid boss drops. Leaving the WS crafting abilities far behind.
Only the WS can actually be usefull in siege (siege golem).
BUT, leveling a dwarf is le worst experience in this game...
Do it for the cuteness.. i hope you'll like the cuteness of your dwarf when you lie dead on the ground each time you come accross a pvp... and loose xp that you spent 4 times the time other classes spend leveling.
Don't go BH anyway.... compared to the WS it has nothing at all for engame content.
Some of us stick to this race, because we're too stubborn to reroll again.
For a first char BH may be a good char to get little money fast.
Anyway, good luck.

That, Or enjoy the game you paid for, and play whatever you want to. =]

disregarding the crafting aspect and that drops overshadow crafting (which imo isn't really a good thing if you have an entire race devoted to crafting) . . . I've been playing for less than a week . . . why would I even be thinking about endgame?
The nature of the original post was feeling out when a good time would be for me (or anyone for that matter) to venture off and explore the vastness of the world . . . not, how do I become a PvP titan or is my character worth anything? Which is the impression I get from your post. :(
I play to have a good time, to interact with others and hopefully to make a few pixelated friends. I don't really care about endgame, PvP or how bad I'll be in it when I engage in it or not.
As for how cute I'll be laying dead . . . well is there any better insentive to res someone?
I don't know about you, but I sure enjoy the use of soul and spirit shots. Last I looked, my bsps-a aren't sold in stores. In a short (40 minute) hunt last night I made well over 5m from spoils. Dwarves = money, and that is certainly needed in this game.
You could go so far as to say that every class could technically be unneeded in this community. Healers? Nah, just rest after every mob and use heal potions. Same with Buffers. Raid boss without nukers? Sure, it will just take a long time.
Every class is needed, in some way or another. If you like the dwarf, play it. I have two and I enjoy them both.
Don't mind the fools who say one class is better than another, Spindle. Most of them are either sore from a recent nerf or play overpowered classes and think they know everything. (yes i said most, dont get your panties in a bunch guys) Play any class you like, dwarves, despite some player's opinions, are a very good starting class... i know quite a few high level dwarfs both spoilers and crafters that love thier characters.
Back to your original question: You CAN leave at any level as long as you have the funds to tele away. Light Elf and Dark Elf hunting areas are both reachable on foot if you leave too early and need a little more time to hunt. However, leaving early will cause you some troubles; your money will go to porting away and now gear you can level with, your level 20 class change begins in dwarfland so you will be going back like it or not, and the mainland tends to have a few more PKers around on most servers. I wont argue that a change of scenery is nice though. ;)
If you do decide to leave early, the monsters in the area you land in at first are around level 15 so be careful around them. Like i mentioned earlier, both LE and DE starter towns are nearby if you leave early and need to level a little more head for one of those, it will take you a while to run there but monsters get lower level closer to newbie towns. If you end up getting PKer problems and wish to return to the dwarven area for exp you can pay to teleport back from Gludin or Gludio (6k EACH way, 12 total unless you use gatekeeper tokens)
