HGMSpam Policy Changed definatly needed

Ok up till now name scam has hurt been a annoynace by now its borderling on utter harrassment.

I got 49 variations of names of clannies or ally members people are trying to name scam with.

3 variations of my name alone. This is totaly harassment and violates the first rule of your own EULA. Its always the same thing its I L 1 always what they change to try to scam with. I really think this people should start getting banned for making level 1 toons for the only purpose to scam. Till they get banned and start costing them 20 dollars every time they want to try this scam it wont stop.

A POLICY CHANGE IS NEEDED. This can no longer be ignored this isnt something that can be handle in game. The toons never leave the peace zone and if they do they are level 1 toons that it does nothing to them to kill them.

This something the whole NA community agrees should be dealt with. Time for the NA staff to use their powers and change their policy and deal with this issue thats been going on for almost a year now.
I have to agree, the name scam has no part in this game. But all other scams are fair game imo.

This can no longer be ignored this isnt something that can be handle in game.

Don't give people your stuff.

Problem solved. Hire me, NCSoft.
SirE its not the fact that any is giving them gear but 49 names to block is utterly annoying and harrassing continuly getting pms from people who cannot speak a full sentence to start with.

I get lots of those nigerian scam email. It's annoying so I think they need to rewrite the internet.

Oh, and I don't need anything enlarged, thank you very much.
LOL SirE, on a roll today.

As they've said before, the EULA only applies to live harrassment, like if I call your house and ask for your stuff. Over and over

I don't doubt it's annoying but there are so very MANY things that are annoying in this game...
hmmm, cracking down on this would require GMs who are active members of the community as a neutral party to all the clan and alliance affiliations and who can continuously be colled on to reprimand the scammers.

some other MMO's have in-game neutral affiliates (eg ARK in Anarchy Online) that act as GMs but do not in any way associate themselves with the game company.

now, dont get your panties in a knot, but some hardcore players have taken it upon themselves to rid Aden of bots, and scammers etc.

at the time, such were called the Aden Police.

times have changed; but there yet is room for an active role by the community for the community to do exactly this. so Sly, maybe you want to begin a work of your own on your server to crack the name scam; find out who is behind it, and you may notice you can make a difference if youre proven correct.

nonetheless i would rather see a sort of "sub-GM" system in L2 where normal players with no affiliations can manage these types of things.

Don't play Lineage 2. Problem solved, and that's what some have done. How about actually dealing with the worst offenders as an example to others? The toon, goent on lionna runs the scam all day every day from aden. How much harrassment of pm's over and over from this toon and her alts do we have to take before it violates the EULA?

How much harrassment of pm's over and over from this toon and her alts do we have to take before it violates the EULA?

Another question along those lines. Someone goes PKing newbs on TI. How many PKs does it take before a GM takes care of the problem?

:p
actually, the answer is simple to your question corollary, sirE;

one.

the gm replies with the standard "we cannot interfere" reply and the hunted becomes the hunter.

Tauren hunter, but thats a different story.

How much harrassment of pm's over and over from this toon and her alts do we have to take before it violates the EULA?

In that case, it's not specifically against any rules that I can recall, but you can always petition for the spam and cross your fingers.

The fact that they're trying to spoof names won't help, though--that's already been made clear.

Same answer to both questions, actually.
In order to PK a noob on TI, a player has to leave the safe zone and commit the act while within the game environment. Opportunity for risk and retribution exists.

A player who leaves the game environment to create a fascimile name then hops into a safe zone and never leaves that safe zone during or after the act is committed does not participate in risk & retribution.

I've said it before, this needs to be looked at. I don't have the perfect solution.

Yes be sure to never give your gear away.

That doesn't make the name scam an acceptable act.
actually there a BIG difference between reds kiling newbies and people who are name scamming. Reds killing newbies can be dealth with and there are already harsh penalties in game for going red in the first place. This CAN be dealth with by the community because the means are there.

But name scammers can stay in the peace zone cities, indefinately. If you actually play this game you know for a fact there is nothing anyone can do against these people whatsoever. You can't kill them, nor block their activities. There is no means in the game to deal with these scammers. The whole point of "take care of yourself as a community" assumes that there is a means to take care of the problem. BUT THERE IS NONE.

Therefore GMs will have to step in, since the player base cannot resolve this problem by themselves. Intervention is needed and will eventually have to be put in. Its just a matter of when. There is already a growing trend from the community that they want this name scamming technique stopped, since it it actually more like an exploit. Using in game letters to do something that it was not intended for.

I mean whats the difference ideologically between this scam technique and someone who takes advantage of an exploit (before) like getting mobs stuck on something and killing it (before when they didnt fix this)?

Either remove numbers from names completely or fix the problem.
Bit of devils advocate here, but what stops one from making a non name scam(but still scams in some form or another) character and never having it leave town?

Well, it's always been my contention that dealing wiht reds is actually more troublesome than dealing with scammers. If you ignore a scammer, he becomes powerless.
thats true but scammers often target the ignorant or the newbies (usually the ignorant are the newbies). This directly hurts the game because it drives the reputation of the game to the gutters. It needs to stop.

See?
Since when was making a name that was similar to someone elses against the rules?
Some times it makes me wonder why people defend this kind of behavior.
It's not going to change.

Take some responsibility for your actions, if you get scammed.

The advice I gave a level 8 newb today:

Me: "Don't ever give your gear to anyone. NO ONE. NEVERNEVERNEVERNEVERNEVER! I can't emphasize that enough."

Him: "Why, will they take it?"

Me: "Maybe they will, and maybe they won't. But they CAN. So why risk it?

Some times it makes me wonder why people defend this kind of behavior.

I don't like certain kinds of protests but I defend the right of the person to hold it. It's not against the rules. It is child's play to avoid. Why make a huge change to the game to "fix" it? Follow Silver's advice. End of story.

Some times it makes me wonder why people defend this kind of behavior.

On principle. I defend a lot of things that I have no intention of doing. It's really not that strange, is it?
Nobody is saying it is good (just like nobody in their right mind would imply that PKing a newbie on TI is good).

People are saying it's part of the game. This wouldn't be L2 if things didn't suck so much.

How exactly is it a HUGE change in the game if you prohibit people from using the same name as you but they replace a 1 or l instead of an I? I dont get what this HUGE change is all about? The GMs just need enforce it when they find out the complaint is legit. What huge change are you talking about? Doesn't affect game mechanics. Its just a policy change.
My main is frequently confused for another player on the server.

I made the name without knowing of that other player's existance.

Should I be banned as a scammer?

It is a huge change, because right now, GMs do not make subjective judgements. To combat this scam, that would be necessary.

I'm all for that, too, but I'm not for enduring the -_-ing and moaning when people are supposedly banned "falsely positive".
There is a clear difference between a similar name and one that is made specifically to scam people. such as making a name like spildor=sp1ldor or splldor with in game text. Everyone who knows about the name scam knows this difference.

Also, I did say that you will need to have been investigated and verified that you used this same name scam to scam people before action is taken against the perpetrator. I don't see why this would be a HUGE problem?
So say i make a character named B1azerX and i go up to a friend of yours and ask if i can use his weapon for a bit. And he hands it over.

Now lets introduce the GM.... She/he doesn't know any of the people involved in this. They look at the logs and see they handed the weapon over.

They responsed he just gave the weapon to them thats not against the rules. Well cannt you see "GM" it was a name scam they have a level 1 character. And the GM says thats not against the rules.

You want the GM to make a decision on a guess on hearsay on gut instinct, they don't go by that.
splatter i like you but you know what im tired of hearing you talk about things you never will experience.

Get a clan get b or agrade gear then get scammed out of then talk about it.

Im sorry for someone who has been playing this game 2 years you should be at least 52 by now and im sick of you telling people how its not wrong when you will never experience half of things people are talking about. Any noob with all the benefits in the game to noobies can get 1 - 40 in no more then a month and 40 - 52 in more more then 3 months.

Why dont you try it before you speak again.

To all the rest of you stop being utterly stupid and trying to defend scamming. It has no place in the game period. Why dont you defend farmers botters and ebayers too because its just NCsoft enforcing a policy that is isnt objective but subjective. There is no magic crystal ball that shows who is botting they need to make JUDGEMENT calls on who is botting wow radical concept there. They make JUDGEMENT calls on hacked accounts too.

Everything GMs do Is a JUDGEMENT calls stop and think about before you speak.
I agree with you...

Let me ask you though is your clan using Msn messenger?
Weird, I thought I had posted in this thread., must have forgotten to post it properly.

Ok, how a GM can recognize a name scam in 2 easy steps:

1. Player makes a new toon with a name almost exactly like another player.
2. This player then asks associates of his victim to give him goodies.

Bam, time to get the banhammer.

99.99% foolproof.

I agree with you...

Let me ask you though is your clan using Msn messenger?

I dont log into MSN through game i got people on my MSN list that dont want to have their conversations montiered with me beause they arent even part of the game. Also u can only have 64 people on your friend list im not going to use that space for clan members when i hunt with allies and my friends outside of clan and like to know when they are on too.

If you have a level 1 toon that is trying to scam then ban them. Period. If the toon is level 1 its obvious its being used to exploit game design not to actually be a part of the community.
The GMs don't even have enough capacity to catch real EULA violators, why even think about something that might stretch the resources even further, that doesn't fix a real bug, and has a rather high likelynes of producing "false positive" and can very easily be abused?

Just remember one simple rule... never ever give your gear to anyone. And don't get tired of reminding your friends of that rule.

Cal
So heres the thing.

The ingame friends list has a limit of 64 people, but MSN messenger has a limit of 600 people. I myself have a msn account for my family and friends, so i created a new one just for lineage.

You could have a list with msn messenger for all of your clan, allies, sub clans, game friends. Why don't yah?
im on dialup and im all about reducing lag not increasing it.

Also not creating a new email address just to fix NCSoft's problem for them.

This is their problem not mine. They have to power to fix it themselves but they instead let it continue costing them customers.

In the long run when the adena business is no long profitable all you will have left are real players however the real players leave beause of GAME ENDING Designs are too numerous in this game. Way too numerous.

This game is starting to give me a paraniod complex wondering who is going to screw me next. At least in real life someone screws me i have legal recourse in many cases. I CANT EVEN KILL THESE SCUM IN GAME BECAUSE THEY ARE EXPLOITING THE DESIGN OF THE GAME.

Try just try getting that this in an exploit of game design through your heads then go from their.
No matter, how often people ask for NCsoft to protect their own lazyness, the best defense against getting scammed is to PAY ATTENTION and play with EYES OPEN.

And before you belittle me, I DO have a char in full B-grade and I have been target to the name scam before, when a char named Sohmusekatze tried to get stuff from one of my clannies. They did not fall for it. I wonder why ? Maybe it is, because they had their eyes open ? Oh btw. they did not even need to ask me on clanchat, allychat or in Voice communication (which I dont use). They simply did not fall for it.

Trillian Kitten
You shouldn't see that much though, that is as long as people don't try to voice chat with you. I'm guessing your running vent or teamspeak thou.
The namescam is used for alot more than scamming people out of items.

But yes, would be too hard to police really and it shouldn't be.

NCSoft could solve all the scams WITHOUT intervention by simply not being so lazy as to reuse tons of icons and having lazy fonts in the game.
Actually my email service blocks spam mail pretty well, only 1 in several hundreds ever gets through and then its only because its been altered so badly that its obvious to the human eye anyway.
its an exploit Period.

Now discuss it from the point where an exploit should be used in game if you cant give a good reason why an exploit of game design shouldnt be address then go ahead.

If you dont agree with any exploit staying in game then GMs need to change their policy Period.
Yes, it is an exploit, but it wouldn't be the first time where one is allowed.

Basically its unenforcable, and the only thing that can be done about it is if NCSoft Korea gets off their butts and actually makes different fonts (they did once, it helped the problem a little bit), and change the icons. (why on earth D-crystals and Soul Ore, and so many other things have the same icons is silly)
I agree that the policy should be changed, and people reported for this activity should be investigated and banned.

IMO it is an exploit of the game, because you are intentionally taking advantage of poor fonts in an effort to take advantage of another player.

I'm really not anti-scamming, I think it adds an element to the game, makes it kind of edgy. There's a big difference between setting up a shop and lying about it and trying to fool someone by making a name that looks very very similar due to a poort font.

As Quay pointed out, all the other scams can be perpetrated within the game, but this one cannot, you must leave the game and create a new character.

Put simply, this is an exploit of a poorly designed font.

Some times it makes me wonder why people defend this kind of behavior.

Okay, tell me how you would code such a thing? Or would you prefer that every time someone creates a new toon that a GM is forced to search through the list of names to see if it is "too close" to an existing name? What then? Should the GM message the "original" and ask "is this new name okay?" Seriously, it's rediculous to think that this could be enforced. I would go so far as to say that the vast majority of similar names are purely coincidental. Christ, I come up with a name I want to use (not from any name I've seen in game) and, if it's taken, try a few variations.

On the other hand, if it gets rid of all the stupid "Drizzt" wannabees out there, I'm for it.

[for the hard of hearing] DON'T GIVE YOUR GEAR AWAY!

If you've made it to D grade, you have NO excuse for getting scammed this way. "Hm, my clanny wants to borrow my gear but English has seemed to fail him today. Oh well, here you go!" Stupid is as stupid does.

splatter i like you but you know what im tired of hearing you talk about things you never will experience.

Okay, Sly. I have personally experienced someone trying the name scam on me. I even made a humorous thread about it. Guess what? They didn't get my gear so no recoding of L2 is necessary. Stupid people get scammed this way. The rules shouldn't have to be changed to accomodate the painfully stupid.
(Just responding to last post, but about the entire thread in general.)

SCAMMING IS A GOOD WAY TO MAKE MONEY! Please don't take my only source of income away!
ok I don't really scam, but I thought that was funny...

anyway... learn to read or don't give your gear away...

This is NOT an exploit. It ins't an exploit to create a char. It isn't an exploit to ask for somebody's gear. Since 1+1=2 and not 3, it is not an exploit... so whoever said everybody thinks it is an exploit is wrong...

There is nothing in the EULA that forbids scamming...

From an NCsoft prospective, there is nothing wrong with scamming.

Atleast these people aren't e-baying adena. THey are earning it in game, and have gone through a hell of a lot of work at that, so more power to them.

If you are the victim of a scam, I have no sympothy for your stupidity. There is some quote about a fool and his money... I think it belongs in this thread.

Weird, I thought I had posted in this thread., must have forgotten to post it properly.

Well them I &@$*#& up. I have 3 accts. All with similar spelligs of the smae very long name. infact on 2 of those accts I have multiple spelligns of the same name and some ARE lvl 1. (soul ore from elmore) Now if I ask one of my guildies to hand over a peice of gear to me for legitimate reasosns, since we use ts the above critearea would have all my accts banned for name scam. WTH?

Guys go cry some more, I swear the time ppl spend whining about getting scammed can nearly be enough time grinding playign the market to replace the item. I have been a victim of the name scam; the AA scam; the dcrystal for soul ore scam (chronicle 1). So I have been tyhere I have lost my wpn to this. I didn;t come here I didn;t petition a gm. I learned from my mistakes and went on, I didn't cry, I asked my clan for help with somehelp form them I had my wpn back in about 3 days. I play this game because of the non policing aspect. If I wanted to have gms policing every little thing that makes ppl feel bad I would go play world of carecraft or any other of the many mmos out there.
well, you can't pick and choose your scams. Either scamming is allowed or it's not.

Personally, i don't think it should be allowed but since it is so, players need to be responsible.

We are associated with another clan (sort of a subclan but not) and their rule is 'no clan tag no trade'

Other clans use the system where they only trade with people who they are speaking with on Vent.

One way to solve this is to have stricter naming conventions but then again, if this was done people would freak.

Seems you are ****ed if you do and ****ed if you don't.

Just keep your eyes open Sov, not only do they use names very similar, they copy the clan tags too  The vent idea is most likely the best.

I've had the name scam tried on me as well, numerous times. The best was when they tried it using my 3rd accts PP name ><

One of the major things that blows about this is the fact that while most of us work hard to build and maintain our reputations here (some good, others not so good) the name scam can destroy all that work in an instant. As an example, the used to be another dwarf on my server with the name Shorte. He was a mean bastard and I was constantly getting PMs from people asking for stuff back, why'd they get pk'd etc... Only it wasn't me, as I created SHORT way back in OB, long before Shorte was created. Besides the fact the Short is pure carebear, people that know Short, know she rarely leaves town. :p Thankfully Shorte is long gone, but it took a lot of work to repair the damage. Granted, this is different from the name scam, but along the same lines.

As far as proving a scam happening, the only thing I could possibly suggest, is screenie it. It would be quite obvious to see somethings amiss when the sentence is butchered beyond belief. However, trying to exact revenge upon a lvl 1 toon who never leaves town proves to be quite difficult.
No, I get it. The problem is that people in this game want to play the way they want to but when it comes to someone playing in a similiar fashion but not "quite" the way someone else "likes to" then it becomes a horror show.

So, people say this scam is bad, horrible needs to be removed. But some people who believe this think that other scams are fine.

It's sort of the same with pvp. People have no problem pk'ing the life out of lower lvl characters or even finding 2 people of an opposing clan leveling and wiping them out with 5. But if there is just one more clan on one side in a siege then all of a sudden it's a zerg.

For the record, i don't think any scams should be allowed. I especially would find it an afront if someone copied my clan tag. Quite frankly I think all scamming is a bit scummy on the lesser side and abhorent on the worst.

But it's still a very clever scam in the world of scams. So I say either get rid of scamming all together or just be more alert. It's beyond a pain in the neck and intrusive to gameplay but then why is waiting around a raid boss and watching for drops any better?

Or setting up a sell shop for inf ore but it is really lava stones? It is all essentially a misrepresentation.

Part of this problem is NC Soft's. If they had stricter naming policies and didn't reuse the same pictures for items then it would be easier to deal with this.

It is just as hard to find and exact ingame justice on some lvl 1 scam shop tune as it is to deal with someone copying a name. I see no difference. So either we get rid of scamming all together or we just have to deal with this horrible system.

A scam is a scam. There is no scam, in my eyes that is "better" and more acceptable. I just can't do that one. I can just accept that this is the game (even though I don't like this part) and accept that some of the scummiest people who I ever had the displeasure to know inhabit it.

I'm very thankful for all the good people ingame. :D

S0vrath from clan Fr0zen.

SirE its not the fact that any is giving them gear but 49 names to block is utterly annoying and harrassing continuly getting pms from people who cannot speak a full sentence to start with.

I get lots of those nigerian scam email. It's annoying so I think they need to rewrite the internet.

obviously its exactly the same thing oh yes.

I wouldn't have expected you to understand my analogy. Thanks for not disappointing me.
Spam lover!!!

Are you sure though? I've recently been asked if I "want to make it last all night."
To the OP: I didnt read thru all these pages but to your orginal post i would say that a policy change isnt needed but a game design change, If it were possible to change in-game fonts one could easily see the difference between characters and the scam would never bother anyone again. If its already been said then i apologize, i couldnt be ***** to read 6 pages.

If it were possible to change in-game fonts one could easily see the difference between characters and the scam would never bother anyone again.

Wasn't that already done? Or did you know that and I'm missing a tongue-in-cheek reference?

I'm not sure if you're being slightly dense or fairly clever
It was already done, but the changes weren't all that major. It's still easy to confuse, especially if one is PM'ing the correct name while the incorrect name is PM'ing (rarely, but does happen.)
I mean a toggle ingame, other games i played solved the name scam by allowing you to press ctrl+f which toggles thru different fonts, meaning you can see the diff from I and 1. also it would widen the spaces between characters to allow for further examinations.

Hmm first of all I don't think GMs would be stupid enough not to know the difference between a scam situation and a non-scamming situation simply by looking at the chat logs and analyzing it. After all if it was a name scam, you'll definitely SEE in the logs that the other party would be cursing and swearing like the dickens at the perpetraitor. GMs can also verify that if the weapon was taken back or kept.

Also, I dont see how anyone would be able to take advantage of this situation in the game to do more scamming. Like they say, the LOGs show it all. Its plain what is going on by examining what the logs show.

Well, it's always been my contention that dealing wiht reds is actually more troublesome than dealing with scammers. If you ignore a scammer, he becomes powerless.

Powerless until he get u in one of those unfortunate days that is.

I feel the diff with reds pking noobs and scammers is this. At the very least, Reds can be dealt with. Either u call friends/get ur main/or there will be some players who actually go out hunting for them.

But wad abt scammers? No measures against them wadsoever.

Moreover SirE, you are not making a distinction between these 2 issues. Your arguement is roughly based on since we are not doing anything abt pple being harassed by Reds, we should not do anything against scammers either.

You also feel that Reds hunting for noobs need more addressing than scammers. Your statements merely reflect your types and may not truely reflect the overall sentiments about what should be tackled first.

At the very least, for the cases of reds, there is always the choice of calling for help and assistant. There are pple always on the look out for them. You will see pple shouts REDs! and pple will start to take cover. Usually it only takes a while for pple to know when and where are the like area reds will strike.

But can anything be done against scammers other than be more vigilant? You know there is always the element of success no matter how small it is. What scammers need is a bit of chance and opportunity presented and they will succeed.

Not to mention as you progress to high lvls wearing more expensive gears. Once you are scammed, u take weeks and months of works to replace what you have lost(unless u uses RL cash to buy things). Lost exp needs only time and the amount of time needed depend largely on ur lvls. The lower ur lvl the lesser time needed to replace lost exp.

I feel in each issues there is always a slight difference that makes each cases so distinctive. For Reds pking noob repeatedly and name scammers keep changing nick trying to get ur gears can both constitute as harassment. But if u look carefully, both cases has a lot of difference. Intention is one of them.

Reds pk for cheap thrills, but scammers do it for wrongful gains at the expense of others.

my 2cents worth, only 2 cents.
Anyway like I say before, we can spend all days arguing about these issues.

It had been done before already. I dun think anything can be done abt it as NCSoft already make their points so clear. Therefore why bother to discuss at length, quarrel with each other spoiling relationships and in the end, the admins dun even bother to delete threads or put a one sentence reply.

Come on discuss about things u know Admins will involve themselves and something be done. Things like in games bugs. Man, even if u participate in one of DarkMotion fishing thread, u can see admin replying there. So why waste time spoiling ur mood and relationship here over things u know admin dun do anything at all.

We have already played this games over a year now and why spoil relations over stupid thing like this. Not worth it.

Plus another 2 cents on top of the one I contributed.
The flaw here is not that letters in the font are similar to others (this happens to hundreds of various fonts).

The only problem is that players attempt this all the time and get away with it because the characters they use are removed/deleted before any GM's would take action, if at all.

Personally, I'd rather GM's spent all their time removing bots and dealing with those cheaters rather than worrying about these scammers.

I feel that way because these scammers only scam people who don't pay attention. It's a shame people fall for it and I'm sure many are players who are more new to the game, but that's how it goes. The best we can do is keep everyone aware of it.

This is not true. Most of the scammers target newbies who dont really get how harsh this game is, until it happens to them. This directly hurts the game's reputation and partly the reason why L2 is so trashed in so many different game forums. This game needs to at least give the means for the community to deal with scammers as NCSOFT often touts when asked through a petition: "This is a community problem. Please handle it yourselves."

But the real irony here is that there is NO WAY at all for the community to deal with scammers of this type. Untiil NCSOFT actually introduces means that players can take care of these scammers on their own, they should intervene to take care of what we have no power to do.

Um, this is not true. What's the point of scamming someone on TI?
Really SirE's main point about the OP's post is the best, Ignore the scammer and it goes away. My clan was harrassed for a while by a name scammer, we fell for the ruse several times, got mad, yelled screamed etc, and in the end the scammer hit us more and more often (the gm assessment was "you traded your weapon etc legally, we can't do anything"). eventually we said to heck with it and ignored the guy, and the more the guy was ignore the less he bugged us. now, my clan is almost never hit by the scammers of this type any more. the origional scammer that hit us never even bothers us any longer even.
See, I think there's a problem with scale here. Its pretty clear that its a single person that's been harrassing our alliance with scams. One person that does this dozens of times is not the same as someone who has similar names and trades a weapon once. Let's call these people serial scammers. These are the people I have a problem with, and I expect they're responsible for the overwhelming majority of the scams. These people need to be banned for harrassment.

In your eagerness to be a good troll you missed the point entirely. Nobody controls the internet but NCSoft controls their servers (allegedly). Creating lvl 1 toons in order to repeatedly pm and attempt to scam a person is bordering on harassment. Nobody from NCSoft has defined exactly what "harassment" consists of so it's up to them to decided I assume on a case by case basis.

No, obviously my point was entirely too subtle for you. Try again.

I'm sorry, but no it doesn't. Threating to come to your house and shave your cat is harassment. Asking you in game to hand over your gear is not. It is an annoyance. No one said you had the right to not be annoyed playing L2.

Learn to read, genius. It's been defined many times.
This discussion is remarkably uncivil, as well as being an issue on which spam has commented numerous times before. I'm locking it.
