This was kind of an odd occurance, by default I have my shortcut bar "attached" to the side of the screen, vertical. Today right next to the rotate button a very small "crosshair" style button appeared (same size as rotate), it didn't seem to do anything, so I made the mistake of hitting the rotate button and it dissapeared again. What was this button for?
That wouldn't make too much sense though, why tell the user when a GM is inspecting them? That's just another point towards the developers of bot applications and scripts.
well i dont have a game pad and i cant see the button. likewise when i do see the button, there isnt anything different about the hotbar. registered all the same for nearly a month straight now.
Edit: Yes, I can verify that it comes up when you open the options menu, even though mine wasn't open at the time, that's the button I'm talking about :)
The button does seem to be showing up after you open the Options menu, which is a little odd. I'll ask the QA team about that.
(And don't listen to SirEl!)
SirEl is our Guru of wisdom! The prophet of Darkmotion! Blasphemer!
Fine, don't believe me! I don't have a gamepad either and once that icon shows up strange things start happening.
At work, we use Microsoft SMS to attach to a user's machine. We can see what the user sees, take control of the machine, etc. The user will see a little icon that looks like at eye-ball while we're attached to it.
Gnome - you know I'm just playing with you. St. Paddy's Day and all. :p
lol, first off I would doubt strange things start happening just because a GM might be in the area... second it would seriously be one on of the stupidest moves NC could make if they were to signal a GM being in the area or investigating you.

GMs test for bots by doing things like spawning mobs and teleporting players to see if the rest of the group autofollows.
Haha great thread, always wondered what this button was for. :)
And the only really scary thing is how much influence SirEl has devloped... I wait for the day when one of his posts makes 50% of the players quit, totally upset about NC and their methods. ^__^
...I have that button, all the time, and clicking it rearranges the hotbar into a diamond shape with only four hotbar slots (slots 1-4).... always wondered what the heck that was for :)
Oh yeah, I clicked on that once and could not the hell get configuration back to "normal" vertical or horizontal layout.
But what if my gamead has two pads, for each hand one? Is it used only for movement?
I demand Nostromo's N52 shape as well :p
