Ok just the other day I found I had 42 grade 3 treasure box keys, I'd only ever used one treasure key before, Ages ago! and the box just attacked me but I presumed I'd done something wrong. I read the keys instructions carefully, Grade 3 keys open treasure boxes of between 30th to 39th level with a 100% chance of success, Sounds hopeful.
I'd love a GM to answer this.
So I went to a place were there was boxes of that level, Got there, checked the boxes level, there light blue to me and I'm 42nd level so I recon there within that bracket so I start using the keys. Clicking on a Box and then double clicking on a key, my character runs over to the box. About an hour later I've used all 42 keys, about 10 boxes have acctually opened and given me some cash, another 10 just faded away and the rest just attacked me!. Am I doing something wrong or is NCsoft's concept of 100% success rate different from mine.
Probably true but it doesn't seem right, Treasure key drops are supposed to be a reward, there should be some sort of benifit to the player. I can't believe that Lineage would introduce an item that at first seems to be a good way of getting adena but then turns out to be a waste of time, , , Hold on!.
I am getting something out of more than 50% of all treasure boxes, that I open with chest keys of the right level.
And with other people finding Enchant Weapon scrolls in such boxes, I don't see any reason to complain.
Sometimes the boxes are empty, ok, but even if they "only" hold money, it still is worthwhile to open the boxes on the fly.
If you'd keep your keys off of Chests, you would have a much better result.
ok here is the deal from my experience most the treasure chests out there are mimics a type of mob that disguises itself as a treasure chest once you use a key or attack it it will fight back when you kill it its like any other mob it drops items and adena thats why if you nuke chests you see adena drop it was a mimic. If you attack a chest and its a regular chest it just blows up and deals damage to you.
Now when you open a chest first off you have to be lukcy and get the 40% that aren't the mimics then you still have a random chance at rewards sometimes you get nothing at all it just opens other times you get some things. Since C4 I personally have gotten nothing more then a few thousand adena when opening them its a waste of time honestly if you get the keys as drops sure use em they are good for nothing else but don't waste time buying keys and such. In C2 I went through thousands of keys using the unlock skill on my assassin overall I came out a little ahead in the end but mostly cause of a few good drops off the chests in PH one was a D grade weapon and a few drops of hundreds of mats but at the end it was barely worth the effort and money in buying the keys
100% of chests are mimics.....i can guarantee that. 100% of boxes are real chests//boxes that u can open with keys. not every box has something in it, but usually they have at least money. the way i see it, its probably a mistranslation on NC's part. they probably didnt intend for us to be able to tell the difference between mobs and real chests just by looking at the name....but im glad its possible.
Personally I believe, that NCsoft made a translation error, and that it was not intentional, that real players can decide between mimics and treasures.
Or maybe, someone did indeed make that intentional, cause or friends who walk the line can see the difference anyway, even with same name and same appearance.

lol yeah better make it double sure you pick boxes only.
1 day I was out in Forsaken Plains doing the Royal Coin quest and I wanted to see what a chest would do. So I cast "Root" and it failed so i cast again and again and agian and again and again and agian until after like 15+ tries it gets rooted. The Chest was darkblue to me mind you and I used Blessed spiritshots.
Ok are you talking treasure boxes as in the ones that are set aside for quest? Can you open those too as you can chests? Otherwise everything I have seen has just been a treasure chest and its either a mimic or not with no real way to know till you try to open or hit one
Sometimes there are no more boxes spawning on a spot. So you have to kill a few chests (only in party I guess). I think it's random if a chest or box is spawning.
BTW I remember when once a dwarf accidentally aggroed a chest using spoil festival in Garden Of Eva. The chest exploded instantly and blew half of the party. (Of course noobs out of level) :)
