in single mob parties they can actually be quite a hassle if they don't use their focus attack skill (lets them hit only 1 mob at a time) but then they're not doing a whole lot of damage. with the abundance of matk resist and high hp aoe mobs in c4 though, warlords are awesome for aoe. just get used to being hit by 30+ mobs at once lol
as far as pvp, they're not all that great, but if you have a bunch of enemies around you that thunderstorm (aoe stun) can be pretty devestating. I guess if you could get them up high enough to be a dreadnaught and spam 4+ aoe attacks in a row you'd probably drop quite a few people around you though.
very usefull in fact everyone used polearms for mass hunting in necros and catas so much that it was nerfed in c4. Get yourself a SO or SE with vamp rage and you can duo all day. Just be watchfull of griefers if you use any skills and a flagged char is in range you will hit them and flag but if you don't use skills they will still get hit within your range but you will not flag. One nice griefing trick I saw was stunning the healer then going in range of the WL who will use mroe skills then to kill faster while healer is stunned. Once skill goes off and causes WL to flag you just wait for healer to heal and flag then you pvp kill healer and let WL die to mobs for chance at drops. WL are fun but just remember mass mobs t once is dangerous so be wary of mobs and other players always carry a bsoe is my rec
I enjoy my warlord. He's pushing 35 now (I've had one higher) and he gets mad drops / XP / SP.
In fact, he's my quick-levelling tool for my 30's clan members. If they hit a dry spell in their levelling, I bring him out, drop a healer in the party, and watch the 'light from above' just start to roll in.
20-40 AOE is not quite as good as it could be. While you do have polearm mastery and wild sweep, that's it. No specialty pole maneuvers like Thunderstorm. So, you're good for one thing, and one thing alone. Beating down a lot of mobs, getting beaten down by a lot of mobs.
If you get a healer (as has been mentioned, SEs are wonderful for it because of VR) that knows what they're doing, you can go for days, dependant only on their MP.
At 35, I'm in full Brig +3 (trained some "bad players") and elven jewels.
40+, I'd say stay in the heavy. You need higher p.def and, if at all possible, HP boosts. Remember, you're going to have a lot of very angry things trying to eat you. The more metal you can put between them and your skin (which isn't very sturdy, I might add) the better.
ok, but i still think that light armor will be a good thing later on (might be wrong) anyway, what wepon would you recomend till im 40?? pole, or a sword/ shield??
I'm using a +4 glaive, seem to do quite nicely. Even without a healer, I can do trains of 3 or 4 rather effectively. I did have an Artisan's Sword, but I only used that when I couldn't use the glaive.
One thing to remember is that polearms are more SS effective if you're fighting multiple mobs than any other weapons of their grade. If you are spamming them, do trains. You'll end up saving more money that way.
C Grade
From what I hear, the best C polearm is the Orcish Poleaxe. If you enchant it with Critical Stun, it'll be your best friend, since it'll make the aforementioned angry monsters unable to chew on you for a few seconds.
Couple that with full plate for the HP bonus, and you should be good to go for 40 - 52.
B Grade
Doom Heavy seems to be the preferred armor for 52+. +320 hp, CON +3 (resisting stuns), STR -3 (it isn't that bad). Couple that with a few tattoos, and you should be good to go.
Add on a lance with crit stun, and you should be fine through A grade.
A Grade This will be pure speculation on my part
I'm favorable to the DC for its increase to the heals (+4%) and +2 to CON. Otherwise, I'd go for that Majestic for the increase to p.atk and accuracy bonus.
Weapon-wise, I really don't know too much, but I'd go for the Tallum Glaive with either Health or Wide Blow. By now you'd have an idea for which would be better anyway.
I'm a fairly high lvl Warlord, and I dont suggest rolling one unless you have a good friend who plays a SE. Warlords are totally useless solo. Thunder Storm has a very low land rate, but when you pull 8-10 mobs in a catacomb and get 4 or so stunned it works fine. Dont expect to PVP well at all except in Sieges, where you will probably be dropped on sight because of how annoying the stun skill is to the other side.
Up to lvl 20 use a sword and shield or whatever. At lvl 20 and up to lvl 35 or so you should use sword and shield as well. At lvl 35 it would be a good time to start getting used to the polearm style of fighting, so switch there. 40 and on you will use no other weapon, unless you get a bow for PVP.
Warlord is tough, you will get killed alot by bad/laggy healers, you are pretty easy to grief, and you just flat out suck at any kind of PvP other than sieges. I'm still gald I didnt go Gladi tho, if thats any consolation.
Let me just say I've never played a Warlord, but all ways admired them. I'm sure others could give better advice.
I am a WC and I trio with a Warlord and an EE some times. Xp is good. I can actually do better solo but Catacombs mobs with a Warlord are better then solo. I don't have a polarm but I use my level 36 AOE seals. Then I attack them 1 at a time. Very fun.
So I think Warlords are best for small groups or AOE groups built around them. Overlords seam like they would be a Warlords best friend. Combo Melee and AOE DoT seams like it could own.
im thinking of going light armor with my future warlord, can someone give me the +and - with light VS heavy armor?? and a good tatoo setup would be fine aswell.
I don't see the reason for light armor on a warlord, you're going to "tank" mobs and you'll definately want as much pdef as possible. Evasion against multiple mobs isn't really all that useful...
Light armor Warlord is a legit setup at A grade (NM light) but NOT UNTIL A grade. It is also strictly a PVE setup, but that extra VR is REALLY nice.
Here are the best setups for creating a Warlord:
1-20 Just do it, no pole.
20-35 Sword and Shield, Heavy Armor
35-40 Brig + Glaive
40-52 Full Plate + OPA Crit Stun
52-61 ZUBEI HEAVY!!! + Lance Crit Stun (Zubei will give you a better pdef over time, has a HP bonus, and doesnt gimp your damage. Since you are a HYBRID tank and DD, you want a balance between high pdef+hp and high attack power.
61+ Multiple setups are good here, and its really the only time you can individualize your WL. There are 2 good PVE setups: NM light and Halberd with Haste (Only if you have a SE with you at all times) and Tallum Heavy + Halberd with Haste. The extra attack speed from Tallum + the Haste SA makes for pretty **** good PVE.
PVP setups on the A grade Warlord: Many go Maj heavy with a Tallum Glaive + Health. You can also go Tallum Heavy + Tallum Glaive (Health) if you like the attack speed bonus and arent worried about stuns.
thank you for the advice, Muad. I'll be sure to look into those setups myself when I get there. I didn't realize the difference Zubei would make over my recommendation.
I'm a fairly high lvl Warlord, and I dont suggest rolling one unless you have a good friend who plays a SE. Warlords are totally useless solo.
My alt is 35 and I've been wondering if I should go Warlord or Gladiator. My friend plays cleric atm and not sure which way he will swing once 40. So you'd suggest that I go Glad when my sole intention is to party with this char with him, and possibly get him to go Prophet?
Or go warlord, get him go Bishop and find a SE to party with?
While I myself do not have a Warlord, I have something similar. Orc Raider and a Dwarf. They also get Pole Arm Masteries and can run trains very efficiently, except a whole lot less skills than a Warlord.
I've used a Pole on my Orc and blazed from lvl 20-30 in about a day or so running trains. After that, I'm bored running trains.
As a warlord, that'll be all you do pretty much. Run around, gather a bunch of mobs, run into a corner and smash em. That's all a Warlord does, or should do. You're AoE master. You'll level very fast at least.
atk speed = reuse timer, so incresing dex makes ur atk speed faster hence makeing reuse timer faster. I would personally have zubei heavy with -3CON +3STR and use a haste polearm.
Also get -5int +4 wit tat, increases ur debuff resistance.
