Tips on Leveling a Wolf?

Hello, I was thinking about investing some time and adena into my wolf, however, I don't want to go into it without knowing what I'm doing, so I was wondering if anyone here could provide tips on the upbringing and uses of work. Leveling tips, hunting set-up tips, etc are all very appreciated. I googled the kalikopela website a while ago and I remember Kiranya's guide being very good, but I forgot it and the website appears to be down. :(
I have a wolf of my own. I've been wondering the same thing for a while now. I've done my own research and it seems that the best way to lvl up your wolf would be to let it attack over and over. The more hits it can get in the more exp. point you get. What I have been going to Talking Island and letting my wolf run wild out there. I go towards the beach and follow it north. Right off to the side you'll see an area that's full of orcs and goblin scouts. Since I'm a mage, I don't do much PAtck damage. I attack them and then tell my wolf to attack. If you're not careful they'll turn on you. This only happens when my wolf hits harder than I do. Just keep the enemy's focus on you and not your wolf. LVLing up a wolf take FOREVER... My wolf died once when I first used him. He's now lvl 14 and still that way and I've had him for about a week. Since pet food is pretty expensive I don't use him that much. Sorry I'm rambling on and stuff. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in there. If you find anything out, please let me know. I could use a few pointers myself seeing how I spent a lot of time getting the wolf.
Nice nice. I have a wolf. And he started out at level 14 also. I only use him to pick up items though. Yet, even so, he still dies a lot.
I have a wolf too, have invested some time in him, he's now lvl 27. Best way is, when ur a bit higher lvl then the wolf, aggro mobs towards u, keep them attacking u while ur wolf attacks the mobs.
When u arent strong enough (yet) to powerlvl the wolf, u can fight allong side him. Make sure u dont do to much damage, just a little more then the wolf is best. The xp is devided by the ammount of damage u and the wolf do to a mob, so if u hit 50% and the wolf 50% you both get half the xp.
Best places to hunt, especially in the beginning, are places without aggro mobs, cause they will kill ur pet on sight and will hardly bother to look at you.

Hope this helps a bit, this is how i lvled my wolf this far.
I have 42 Wolf. I use to lvl the wolf with a med lvl tank (55 SK) and casting aggro and hex on the mob and let the wolf to his job. Beastshots realy help and upgrade your wolf gear is a good thing to do as well if you are willing to invest some adena's into your pet.
Wolf lvl 14 - 18 I hunted Gludin area, those lizzards and bears.
Wolf lvl 18 - 26 hunted Dion area, those bugbears at the north gate.
Wolf lvl 26 - 36 hunted Partisan Hideaway area, stranglers, raiders.
Wolf lvl 36 - 42 hunting HV area, Karul Bugbears. If you are lucky you get some brig helm designs as well :)

Oh one more thing, avoid archers at all times. Tho you pull mobs on your self, somehow it seems archers switch aggro on the wolf much faster then melee mobs.

GL on your wolf.
Get a Bishop, find undeads and paralyse em. It worked wonders for me :)
Kilkenny and NForcR have the right idea. Hunting with a wolf takes practice. If you're much higher level than your wolf, pull aggro then let wolf eat. If you're close in level, fight normally and send the wolf in once you've started attacking. A big key is finding the right field. You want high enough density so you're not always searching fora target. But you don't want them too dense or with too many aggros or you'll end up with a dead wolf.

Hunting Zones:
15-22 Zombies and Tracker Skeletons around Ruins of Agony
23-25 Ol Mahum and Monster Eyes East of the South Entrance to Wastelands
26-34 Execution Grounds, start on upper levels, work downward as puppy levels
35-42 Deaths Pass or Front levels of Garden of Eva
43-50 Shakles (watch for drain spell) and skeletons in Dragon Valley
51-58 Upper level Enchanted Valley or Forsaken Plains

Kiranya's new URL is:
www.l2danceswithwolves.com (http://www.l2danceswithwolves.com)
or

And there you'll find she's taking a break from L2 atm.
Thanks for the feedback. Now that wolf guide would be **** helpful as an official guide.
Actually, I still don't see a point in having a wolf.

I thought, I could level a wolf with my tank, so he would kill faster with that extra damage of the wolf. But that is of course pointless, because if the wolf does the damage, the char gets no exp. So in the end you have a high-lvl wolf, but you won't level your char any faster and you spend a lot of money.

So what's the point in starting a wolf at all? The only thing it is good for is for showing off if you get it to a really high level...
Some characters actually do not want to level fast (Dwarves for instance who need to stay in range of spoiling certain items).

For those characters the wolf taking XP is actually very good.
Has anyone heard from kiranya in the past few weeks? Her danceswithwolves site is down and I haven't seen her post on bla or here for a while now. Hope she is ok.

I been looking for her too. Where is her ????
Since XP is divided proportional to damage dealt, a wolf only takes away XP proportionaly to increase of killing speed. Having my wolf deal almost the damage as my tank character, I'm doulbing my killing speed. That's getting only half XP per each mob, but they are being killed at double rate, that means almost the same XP per hour (a bit more time is wasted on running) but double loot.
Hmm, thats a good reason. I actually do almost the same, just that I use a prophet instead of a wolf... ;)
Hello people.

I'm a tank with a wolf. The wolf only take something like 15-20% of my xp, while it really add to my killing speed.

Personnally i don't use soulshots, thx to the wolf, so in fact i'm saving adenas by using it.
Thanks for that info on kiranya. Too bad she is too busy for the game, but at least we know she's ok. :D
