Hi All, I have been playing a light elf wizard, recently made it to cl 32. I have to admit it is getting a bit tiresome running from every mob in the game. I have looked at the skillsets, and the prospect of keeping a party buffed while hacking away at melee is appealing. I guess my question is, is my impression wrong about this class? I think it is possible that I am not reading the fine print, and my new 13th level orc could prove just as feathery as my current LE. I have read the post on Robes vs Armor, I was just wondering what veteran impressions are of orc mystics. Thanks...
Shamans can do that =)
Only you get the good buffs later then other buffers. On other hand you are much more phisicaly stronger then other buffers. Also, up to now (low 40th) my shamy was able to tank when there was no real tank and healer classes in the group. Noone had complained yet ;)
What the previous poster said is very true. You can tank with heavy or light armor and a good weapon until you hit 42. At that point, then your buffs start coming into being. I can tell you on Bartz, most clans want WarCryers and Overlords and there are just too few of them.
Both of these tracks allow you to play the character the way you want to. Heavy Masteries, Light Masteries, Robe Masteries all good stuff. And while you don't get specific weapon masteries, you do get to use anything equally well, so if you like a look, you can do it.

I will tell you, after about 45 or so, you will need to party up as much as possible to get ahead.
Your only other problem will be which way to go. Overlord if you are a clan based player, WarCryer if you just like pickup parties.

Enjoy.

Thanks to VR and their drain, if a shaman has a decent melee weapon, they continue to be able to tank. A clannie of mine, a warcryer in his 70's, was tanking ToI 5th for a small party the other day. In robes. :D
Thank you both for your input. I have gathered that if anyone wants to get ahead after 45 they need to party, this game has a great deal of balance (from what i have seen so far).

I am also finding that there seems to be less downtime with this toon than my LE. Using life drain I am able to pretty readily manage both MP and Health, does this trend continue at the higher levels as well (noted: buff costs are a lot higher on the orcs (probably due to whole group buffs))?
I still tank in heavy. Did it on my level 75 on the PTS as well. No hate so you really have to pump out the damage. I was tanking last night, just used frost flame to hold agro.

I can say in heavy you won't run from mobs. The only ptoblem with heavy is when you are getting your best buffs (48-58) your a little short on mana. But in the 60's your mana pool catches up to demand. Also you will never be a really fast caster in heavy.

I personaly use my spells as sapport as a melee. Works well. It's not really much of a choice to me. In robes you have to have a party. Robes won't protect you after 50. In heavy you can kill alone or in group. Doesn't matter people will all ways ask you to come group.

Not true at all. Only in robes. Heavy WC in decent gear will all ways be able to solo. I still do. Group disbanded and I need just a few % so I went solo and leveled.

Xp is faster solo in the 40's, later you still kill mobs fast but the % bar climbs slower. Groups are a fun way to pass the time.
