Level 74. I have no plans on subclassing and killing the same mobs again. No plans on leveling because my next set of good skills is at 77 and I have no heart to even try it.
By standard use, the "End Game" is what keeps you busy and interested after you've finished levelling up through standard content. For me, I see castle ownership, the Olympiad, and clan v clan PVP as Lineage II's "End Game".
End game to me is when you have reached the peak, its the time at which you can stop and do as you please. End game is when the fun begins as you can do the fun stuff, ie PvP all the time, no more annoying grind, wooot!
So basically your endgame when your 78/78/78 and can go pwn scrubs 24/7.
The endgame in a standard single player game, would be the point when the game is about to reach its conclusion.
Now for an MMO, this definition is unworkable as there is no overall point that leaves you watching credits, there is no penultimate goal to reach. I would say then that for an MMO, endgame simply means the point where you have completed all the current content open to your playstyle, and any thing you do from that point forward, is simply redoing what you already did. However, this definition is killed by its own broad definition, and actually suggests that a first generation MMO is nothing but endgame from start to finish. The reason for this is because of the nature of a first generation MMO, where a character kills mobs to get better equipment to kill mobs. Then once someone has successfully killed a mob to get better equipment to kill more mobs, they have just completed the content, and every time after that in which they kill mobs ot get better equipment to kill mobs, they are only repeating the same action.
But what about the player who has reached the equipment peak? Certainly they are unable to earn better equipment since there is no better equipment to earn, and thus for them, there is no "Endgame" content. But of course, if nothing prevents this character from hunting mobs, or pvping, or repeating any action that they could have done previously, we can still say they are experiencing "Endgame" content, it simply isn't going to take them anywhere.
Thus by this definition, I can say succintly that calling content "Endgame" simply because it is designed for the maximum level characfter is a fallacy, this content is as much "Endgame" as content designed for a level 2 character.
So I will say then that by making the game enjoyable and interesting no matter how many times it is repeated (an impossible feat), a developer can guarantee that their "Endgame" content is enjoyable.
the end game for me is Warlock hero. But i do some times reflect and say "what am I doing all this time?" or "is it really worth it?" lol
there is no real prize for grinding all those late hours.
I hit the end game almost every other week When I get bored or frustrated with the game. If it wasn't for the friend I have ingame I wouldn't be playing now.
I already quit once on TEON man that server was horrible (Dumb noob from california picked the wrong server).
But i have found my nich on my current server and am having a great time. We are not the top or bottom clan/aliance, we have great people who help each other out. We have the same ethics/morals about cheating. We have enemies some strong (pain in the rear) some equal in strenght (fun PVP) some weaker (dont waste my time). But there is always something going on and the game stay interesting.
On TEON it was always everyone for them selves. never got high enough to really do anything fun. Alot of clan/alliance infighting and alot of cheating. Everyone was doing everything they could to be on top no matter what the cost.
So basically my endgame is "having fun" as long as that keeps happening ill keep playing. When the fun stops i'll take my 15 bucks somewhere else.
i used to think 72 was endgame, all the good pvp wc skills. got that then i was thinkin 75... then i saw chant of victory and now everyones goal in life should to either BE a 78 warcryer, or be VERY good friends with one.
level capped on my character and subclass. only 48 levels to go. And to have the gear I want and to be able to do what I want. i.e. If I want to buy a c-grade wep and try and OE it to +16 and I can do this multiple times until I succeed, then I'll have enough money. Thats my end game. In the meantime I'm having a blast with my clannies and loving the speed at which I can pwr level my Sorcerer 2-box :)
I used to wonder if I would ever get into A-grade. I finally hit A-grade 6 months ago. Then I used to wonder if I would ever be able to afford an A-grade weapon. In December I bought a +3 BOMT with Acumen. Recently I doubted I would hit 70. Now I'm 25% into 70. Now I'm wondering if I'll hit 75.
It seems my goals and expectations are always changing. As soon as I reach a goal, there are new goals to achieve. As long as Lineage has a challenge left, I won't be able to reach the "end game".
I suppose I'll call it quits after I hit 75, and I have a strider, and my subclasses are all 75, and I'm in top S-grade, and I own a castle, and... wow, how many Chronicles are left?
well end game for me is getting a gold name. Forget hero... when I can compete in things like the new event, and get my gold name... I will have won L2!
All I want to do is be effective in sieges and to do the Olympiad. I don't even care about being a Hero. Quite frankly I don't want to be a Hero... I just like the pvp.
i used to think 72 was endgame, all the good pvp wc skills. got that then i was thinkin 75... then i saw chant of victory and now everyones goal in life should to either BE a 78 warcryer, or be VERY good friends with one.
I simply see the end-game as everything 75+...at that point, you outlevel just about everyone and are free to participate in just about everything, if you please.
I always understood "end game" to be a term for what you do when you are at or close to the level limit. That is, in L2 you are participating in the "end game" when you do the stuff people with 70+ toons do. Participating in an Antharas raid as an important player, not just as cannon fodder. Participating in sieges and actually being effective there (i.e. downing other players who use top notch skills/items instead of being one-shotted as soon as you step on the siege ground). Participating in politics and actually being known to the players in other alliances. Reaching 3rd class change and eventually doing noblesse quest and participating in the hero competition. That is end game for me.
For me, the "Endgame" is the point I can go and shape the political, physical, cultural and/or economic landscape of the game world.
I tend to agree with this assessment insofar as the endgame to me is where the players have reached the zenith of the currently developed content, and can now take steps to influence it.
The endgame is an important phenomenon in the MMO world because it defines what the game becomes once the players have exhausted their ability to progress vertically. Often there is still scope for some lateral adjustment based on unfinished quests and what not, but ultimately, its what can be achieved at the pinnacle of the game that matters.
Whilst the original poster cites that they cannot influence the "world" around them, I put it to you that L2 is probably one of the more unique games that does give you at least a glimmer of hope in doing just that. Good or bad the open PvP systems allows players to shape their world. As does the open trade system.
I've played a lot of the other MMO's and their endgame is ever-raids. Thats it ! By quest or zerg there is no other point to playing the game its more loot or bust...
L2 has its own raid game and whether you chose to participate in it, or consider it worthwhile is not relevant to this particular argument, the fact remains that it exists.
In addition, L2 offers their player the ability (as limited as it may seem) to influence your PvE envirionment through activities such as castle control with their inherent ability to tax the PvE environment, plyerbased political intrigue with its remarkably feudal interplay and ulltimately a PvP resolution tool to arrive at an outcome... Good or bad L2 does give their player access to the next level of gaming beyond that which is currently available in WoW or EQ2 which are often touted as the L2's direct competitors.
Don't get me wrong L2 is not the panacea of MMO's by any strech of the imagination but as far as the endgame is concerned it certainly has potential.
As it stands L2 has far more potential than its competitors. Whether it capitalises on this is another matter. :)
