Okay I've been playing this game for little over a week now and there is something very serious about it that needs to be adressed.
Downtime..now I don't get what you developers are thinking, but where you think having to rest for 5+ minutes is FUN has some serious issues and needs to get professional help immediately. It is getting worse as I level. I'd hate to see how bad it gets 50+.
I thought FF was bad, but it's nothing compared to this game...So that's the problem..
Now the resolution..simple enough? Fix it..Regeneration needs to be faster! Thanks :cool:
Party, if you group you won't have downtime (in an effective party)
Ah yes...a party yep that works but I think they are more concered about you dieing and taking your gear more than anything else..and I have been in parties and downtime is still a problem, and who knows maybe you like getting only 700-900xp per kill in a party at 38 but I sure don't.
The amount of downtime you have is an indicator of how your party is performing. If your parties have frequent and extensive downtime, the problem isn't really the game, it's your party. And yes, I've partied at a variety of levels, and a proper party, with everything going according to plan, only has downtime for bio breaks.
Now, with that said, I completely agree that using downtime as a major balacing factor was kind of a downer. Wish L2 hadn't gone there, but it did and the time to change that is far, far in the past.
This all begs the question, though:

I'm sure you have a perfectly reasonable explanation.
I'm sure you have a perfectly reasonable explanation.
I bought this game at that time and played it for a little while but college got in the way and had no time to play, I just started up a week ago. Good enough?
stop complaining and learn the game. People dont reach multiple subclasses with "so much downtime". This game takes effort. At least this game doesnt give you "forced" down time. If you play your classes properly you will have next to no downtime, especially with the right party, as someone already mentioned.
Downtime will always be a factor in this game. How much depends on how well you party and how much you solo. Soloing will always have downtime. The reason spellhowlers and necromancers have less downtime and longer hunt time is that they have a skill called body to mind which sacrifices HP for MP. As a shaman, you should be in heavy armour to solo using your drain every second or third mob as a top up heal. And also you chosen a character (whether you go WarCryer or OverLord) that has to party to be really effective. I play a shillien elder and when I was sub 40 I soloed on the fettered souls in death pass. you want downtime, how about 5 minutes to hunt 10 minutes for mp regen as a dark elf.
The best thing you can do is go to the player questions boards and ask experienced players how they reduce downtime, especially for early levels.
You play for a week only and are lvl 30+ and you dare complain about downtime ??
Where did you get all the money, you needed to level that fast ? Or were you playing 24/7 in that week ?
Wondering Kitten
Kitten strikes again!~
That was the same thing that made me go 'mate?'
Hitting 30 after about a week of play doesn't quite coincide with the gripe about too much downtime. Especially with the newbie buffs now, leveling your first toon past 25 is a breeze. If you have any downtime whatsoever before the newbie buffer denies you any more perks, you're doing something seriously wrong - or you're a wizard. :D
Try not attacking deep red monsters, stick to the green ones if you are soloing. Pack a few heal pots if you're a fighter. Plan on a few coffee breaks in between the ridicoulus fast killing sprees if you're a mage. Never leave home without a party if you're a support class.
If your party has frequent downtimes then go somewhere else, it's obviously too hard an area for the party.
Yes, I'll gladly take an exp hit and party, because with a party you can usually go non stop in areas you couldn't solo for another 10-20 levels, or ever, depending on your class.
Low exp that is non stop and fast beats huge chunks of exp that you gain in between downtimes and takes you an hour to kill every day. :)
This is something essential that few people seem to graps...
5+ mins is nothing anyway, if I empty my mp bar it takes a good 15 mins to regen. Most classes can go non stop with the ways other people have suggested. Me personally I don't mind the 5 mins or so here and there to get a drink, read a forum or something.
As a shaman you should get heavy/light and a mele wearpon. For me at those lvls frost flame landed 90% of the time (mele wearpon, no BSPS). Drain, preferably with BSPS when you need hp. Use frost flame almost every mob. look at your's buff timer when a few minutes is left take it easy on DOT's. Use soul shield instead of the chant of shielding for solo or duo, this will seave you 2-3 cast's worth of MP.
Hunting in Death Pass i only needed to rest every 2-3 buffrounds. And only for 1-3 minutes.
One more thing, make some friends ;) chating makes the downtime go by faster :)
I always see new players going for the hard mobs because they give more xp per kill. Problem is the time and effort it takes to kill it.
Kill whites or even better, greens. The idea is to do it quickly and to get a steady rhythm going.
killing 2 mobs for 360 xp is better than killing one mob for 700.
If you are a mage you might have issues. Later on in the game, dark elves get body to mind (well.. wizards). Some of the other classes get it too. If you are a light elf mage then just get used to downtime. You do get things that help deal with it better but there is always some resting.
But as I've posted before, I can hunt greens for a very very long time before I need a rest. usually using body to mind and occassionally a health potion. when needed. (body to mind takes from the health and gives to the mana).
If you are melee then hunt greens and you will have little downtime.

I've been exping an alt DE mystic(now Wizard). 3rd day going, lvl 21 so far. Totally solo, sitting to regen mp and all. And best of all, no newbie buffs or the likes. So if I can do that in less than 3 days without newbie benefits, well then newbies can do it in a day as it's totally nonstop killing with the buffs atleast if you're a melee.

You are 21 in 3 days, this guy is 38, not 30, in a week. It took me over a month to get to 20 on my first toon. And I play a lot. I know, musta been great drops right? That brig set dropped in OB I bet.
EDIT: I did up to lvl 35 in a bronze heavy set on the pts on my wc, that brig set comment wasn't fair.
it took me 3 months to get~
dwarf Warsmith: 46
human Warrior: 33
human: Wizard: 23
elf fighter: 18
and all the time running a clan and haveing fun :)
the game isnt about how fast you level it is about how much fun you have :)
~~~~~~~~~~~
also the answer to the mana down time is partly in relation to the group you are in (if any) or the hp/def of the criters you are killing. I have a friend who was trying to solo in NOS as a elf wizard.(i bout smacked him) the criters there have double HP and some have resisit magical and/or physical atk! :eek: so you should definatly try either geting with a wepon user(not another mage) or a toon with mp recharge. and if you are soloing..you should go after criters that are no more than green to you and when you run outa mana wip out ur close combat wepon and some dss and go to town :D
and always remember
HAVE FUN ;)
My first char.. I played for months and managed lvl 32, but I had some alts etc. My main took 3 days to 40 and a little over a week to 52. Though it was after 3 50+ rerolls.
my 3rd day is currently going, and I've been playing with my main and other alt too >.> 7 days is enough to get to 40.
I'm not sure how that is possible, unless they have changed lvling, you are very twinked or you are putting in serious hours?
well if u have top ng and top d-grade at 20 it is easy. Especially if u have a buff bot that can carry extra ss/sps, so you don't have to go to town... when I made my se buff bot I didn't waist time doing the first class change until lvl 25...
or you can level to 40 in approximately 20 playing hours using an out of party high level buffer. which is about how long its taken me in between clan parties etc to level my twinked sorcerer to 40 + class transfer. however now its the expensive part because I need cgrade for her and I'm a poor healer (too generous i think) :(
well now is a great time to make money... not only farming your own event items, but with soo many soloers u can sell a lot of buffs on your se :)
man zero downtime is a killer
i remeber back in the big boom days playing a solid 5 hours never resting
problem was big boom wasnt mindless grinding you actually have to pay attention :/
WTB downtime
oh wait thats why im reading the forums ^^
I bought this game at that time and played it for a little while but college got in the way and had no time to play, I just started up a week ago. Good enough?
Works for me. It's just good to have an explanation when something really bizarre like that gets said :)
I have a de mystic on bartz with a weapon that dropped with matck of 7, and a devotion set that some SK bought me when I asked if he knew anyone with alt gear for sale. She is lvl 12 and in no way would I hope after 1 week of hard grinding to be 38 without a lot of external help.
On my server, its a different story cause I can twink any alts I have. I just can't see how he is 38 in a week, and has downtime to complain about I guess.
your a lvl 38 orc shamen and you have down time? what's causing it? is it mana or hp's? You should get a tank setup use your drain when in dire need and get some potions. That should take care of the problem. btw I play a 56 OL so I can relate
first off. 40 in a week is nothing now. with noob ss and buffs + the rewards for quests it's nothing. and having top NG by 15ish is easy by upgrading gear. :( took me a month to get 25 on my first toon and just then finished my wooden set lol.
to the OP, as an orc shaman you should have absolutely no downtime solo till 50+ and after that with buffs it's no problem even. i solo FG with SE buffs at 6x and use my drain as DD since i don't run out of MP.
u should be in heavy armor at all times. i've tried all types of armor, robe, light, and heavy. for pve nothing beats heavy. just melee till HP is around half and then drain. rinse and repeat. voila! no downtime. i would advise gettin a grp in a cat for a night or two just for the GSAP.
imo anything over a 4 man grp in this game is a waste. 4 and under set up right is great xp. everyone makes money (spammin A-SS no less), and get's plenty of mat and letter drops. lately i've been with a WC and Destroyer with a SwS thrown in occasionally. it's the best xp i've ever gotten. and we have no downtime killing pink and dark red mobs. we're all 6x btw
just melee till HP is around half and then drain. rinse and repeat. voila! no downtime.
Yeah that works
He probably wants infinite MP to have fun spamming all of those skills. (I'm not criticizing him; that would be fun, however unbalanced)
lvl 38 shaman - MP has to be managed. Parties and their kill rate speed has to be optimized. Its' good that you are nearing 40, because you'll be able to party with serious partiers at higher levels. The typical pre-40 people in the game now suck at partying. Serious players doing re-rolls solo to 40.
My twink was 27 at the end of the 3rd day, 4th day is now beginning(I'm farming letters and avoiding wartags, and I can kill without downtime.)
Twink got top NG mage staff at lvl 16(used Doom Dagger that I got as a drop at lvl 8 or so before that.) Blasted to lvl 20, got Staff of Life +0 and has been 1 shotting mobs near Dion(Tumran Bugbears, the wolves and eyes for 7 lvls now, eyes still white, bugbears and wolves green). At 25 DE wizard gets BTM, which coupled with drain life = no downtime at those lvls. I'm 1 shotting all the mobs, they're white/green to me and I can do that as long as I want to :) No oop buffers/rechargers or anything. Only thing that has been externally added is the SOL(which I could have farmed for, 2,5mil is pretty easy to get with manor and quests).
Add in newbie buffs, newbie ss/bsps and you can do it even faster. Btw, gotten 95 letters +CHRONICLE x3 so far with this method :)
