ok im currently a lv 29 warrior with goal to become a warlord.
Im currently using a full manti set and a glavie +7 but it hit me that i dont know anything about playing a melee :o, and even less about how to effective use a polearm
some tip on were to level and how to be of moste use in a party would be appreaciated
P.s dont bother tell me that i should use heavy armor, cus ive decided to use light all the way :D
thanks in advance :p
Edit: im on TEON, so if there is a friendly warlord that can demostrate the training thing Pm Hindemith
well...
learn how to get a full train of mobs w/o dying...thats the key.
and when you do it, run around a corner and stop right at the edge, this way you hit everymob, and hit it hard, and they de faster and you take less damage
Find a WC or SE with VR. it's a warlords best friend. Also load up on potions of alacrity or greater haste potions. Good places to hunt are any catacomb, cruma tower (Snipes) Dragon valley (headless knights) and EV (everything). After that if you can find space in TOI or Ancient battlegrounds.
Also, the point about running around a corner is good, but be carefull of how the monsters stack. sometimes they will appear to be all on top of each other, but you will only hit one of them at a time. if this happens run to the next corner/rock/tree and try again.
I've also found that tattoo's are not very helpfull to WL's, they rely on all three stats (just counting STR DEX and CON)too much to do without any one of them. but it's possible that I just havn't found the right combination yet.
i think the point with as polearm is to have back covered: if you get surronded you will hit only those in front... what you want si to keep all the mobs right in front of you... but carefull, don't cut you all the ways for a retreat ;)
can't be more specific, since i've used a polearm only at low levels so i have not all the experience others might have with using 'em :)
Tips and tricks from a Warlord:
<ul type="square"> Only hunt in places with corners (Catas, Nec's, places with trees, etc)
When you pull, pull to that corner. Play with this some, you should be able to get the mobs to "stack" so you are compressing them into a smaller space and you can hit more of em.
ALWAYS hunt with a SO or an SE, or at high levels a WC. VR is a must, there is simply no substitute.
Have Greater Swift Attack pots or Alacrity pots.
Carry healing pots for when you pull. If your healer heals you before you have hit, the mobs will aggro him/her, and that is no fun.
Before hunting in an area, learn which mobs are social, which are aggro, which stun/para/whatever. You DO NOT want to hunt stunners. Getting stunned with 10+ mobs beating on you is instant death.
...I wouldnt use light armor until A grade, but you seem to have your mind made up on that.
NEVER get a -dex tat. Your accuracy is VERY low, as is your attack speed. Just dont do it.
Crit Stun is a decent SA until A grade. The rest of them are junk.
If you can afford it, get a 2h sword for PVP and PVE when you cant find a healer. Use Vicious Stance with the 2h sword and you do pretty good damage. The downside is you have no skills, but its way better than whacking on a mob with your pole forever.
Any other questions?

not at the moment... but dont worry ill find some for you :p
ive already gotten used to how to move in 1vs many fights., and i can oly say that its a pure adrenaline rush to have 5-6 mobs wacking on you and no healer in party  but if war cry and battle howl is timed perfectly i discovered that i can survive 8 mobs with only healing pots and ssd and light armor :D
not the brightest idea.. but it can be done :)
edit: what a huge amount of ssd im saving when fighting +4 mobs at same time, its amasing to be able to spamm ssd and still gain adena^^
How can a 2h sword be any better for a WL then a pole? They have the same atk speed n all. I would have thought that all the pole masteries would easily give you higher p atk with the pole then with a 2hander you have only warrior masteries for.
ok, but still.. everyone ive met ingame asks why im using light as a warrior. and when i say cus i think the evasion bonus makes up the loss of P.def ppl laugh at me, but still im able to train 8 mobs with only my self buffs and healing pots, and im not even needed to spamm healing pot :D
this will change when you get to higher levels though
AOE under 40 and over 40 is different, you need to hit more often at higher levels - but if you have a healer in party should go well, warlords are the aoe kings after all
Well I have to add a few words...
1) Corners - do not listen to them. It's not true u must have corners to hunt with WL. When u get surrounded or u see u don't hit everyone, just move a bit to the side and "pull" the mobs. Next thing hit again and you'll be hitting everyone around.
2) Do not dress warlord with light armor. Only heavy.
3) STR is more important than CON. You ALWAYS lvl with VR and the STR pays off for the CON with the HP you drain.
4) Learn to use ALL your skills. Warlord has VERY powerful skills for ANY party. Not only simple pole AOE.
5) Do not buy D,C,B weapons with WB - it sucks ! If u know how to control your charecter you'll always make the mobs stand the way u need them <- that is what u need to learn if u wish to become a WL. The key is just move a bit when u don't hit them all. And avoid P resistant mobs, because then u get less HP with VR.
6) Pay a lot of attention to your MP, it is essential. Do not forget SA takes MP and Crit Stun is a life saver together with Focus.
7) Stick to lvling on green mobs.
And... have a lot of fun ! Warlord is no doubt the fastest lvling class in the game and a lot of fun. WL is extremly useful in mass pvp if used right. One mass stun could end a war in 1 min.
k.. som what B grade armor do you recomend?? oh, and ty for the list
jkoster: ty in advance
Zubei is best, gives high P def bonus aswell as extra HP, BW is no good as it nerfs your CON & DEX, and Doom is no good cos it nerfs your STR. Get ZUbei Heavy, its cheaper and when enchanted to +3 on all pieces its very very good.

I have to disagree with point 5 here. WB (wide blow) increases youre angle of attack from approx 90 degrees to 120 degrees. Now, if you are well practiced you can pull a bad stack (only hitting 1 or 2 at a time) into a good one, but this takes time and sometimes leads to getting stuck in the middle of a large groups of mobs, which is never a good thing for a WL as you are then surrounded.
I found with WB on a pole I drop the odds of a bad stack from 1 in 20 to about 1 in 80.
As for critical stun, I still have limited experience with that SA, but it seems to effect the mob that is targeted far more often than any other mob in your area of attack. I've noticed that 9 times out of 10 when the stun effect occours it's on the targed mob and only once have I seen more than one mob stunned at any given time. If someone has more experience with this skill I would like more information.
Not sure if the OP is still reading this thread, but for the good of potential Warlords out there, I'll keep it going.
SPS: Until the high 6x levels, a Warlord's patk and accuracy with a 2-h sword are higher than patk and accuracy with a polearm. If using a focused weapon (Great Sword for example) and the VS toggle, DPS is significantly higher. This makes it a better solo weapon, and will allow you to participate in non-aoe hunts as a good DD. With buffs, I am criting for well over 2k damage on green-white mobs (BD buffs, VS, DW) and with Focus SA and Focus buff, I crit very often.
Concerning B grade armor: BW and Doom are NOT the best for a warlord. As a hybrid Tank/DD, you are MUCH better off with Zubei heavy. In A grade your options widen (Maj heavy works well, as does Tallum Heavy, and NM light is a superb PVE armor with a Haste weapon and SE buffs), but in C and B grades, Full Plate and Zubei are really the best, albeit somewhat dumb looking, choices.
Regarding corners: If you are pulling more than 3 monsters at a time, you will want a corner, a tree, or a rock to pull to. Getting surrounded will usually spell instant death. In catacombs duo'd with a SE, I generally pull 8 green-white mobs and hit them all. Sometimes pulls will go badly, and it is always good to have an out. If your mobs stack poorly, let off a Thunderstorm and run to the next corner. Allow the monsters to work their way back to you as stun wears off.
Regarding HP pots: Watch out for pulling too many mobs. Healing pots differ from VR in one very important way. If I pull 10 mobs and have VR and am breaking even on HP (VR recovers what the mobs take), I could pull 15 or 20 to the same place and not notice any change. That is, the more mobs I hitm the more HP I get back. A healing pot does not do that. It may seem kinda obvious, but HP pots are NOT VR pots.
Regarding getting griefed: There are many ways you can get griefed while AOEing. You can get trained, stunned, or lightning-striked and you run the risk of dropping items. Always carry a BSOE just in case. Also, if a person flags and gets into your AOE, you will hit that person, but will NOT flag back. If, however, you use a skill while a flagged person is in your AOE, you WILL flag. A common tactic is for a person to stun your healer, causing you to need to use skills, which gets you to flag, which will allow them to up their pvp count on you. Keep your eyes open for these griefers, but get ready for some heart-in-your-mouth moments.
All these things considered, I would still pick Warlord as my class were I making a character. They are severly limited in PVP and PVE, but played correctly and with some strategy, they are an invaluable asset to a party in both PVP and PVE.
that is some really good info from the warlords. i am a gladiator but have the heart of a WL :p i always have my lance while out partying in the catacombs since me and my friends dont know too many WL's to go party with. so i am actually making a WL right now. got him up to D grade now and plan on grinding hard and hitting B grade by next week. i know it will be tough but me and 2 other friends actually started new characters together and the set up will be 2 WL's and a bishop.....so it should be fun to say the least. seeing as how my glad has used a pole arm at every grade so far, i am pretty handy with it but the info on the proper armor and such has been helpful. great posts guys :)

I have no experience with 2h weapons, but blunt and polearm masteries do not make up for superior patk of dual swords, until around level 65-70.
My point is do not assume masteries make a big difference. You have to see what your patk is with that weapon in hand.
Regarding corners: If you are pulling more than 3 monsters at a time, you will want a corner, a tree, or a rock to pull to. Getting surrounded will usually spell instant death.
That is absolutley wrong ! The MAIN thing you have to learn is to pull the mobs (and later even other players) and make them stand the way YOU want them. THIS is the real power of Warlord.
You must know how to become the bottle neck in the fight if u wish to be a useful warlord.
If you get surrounded you must pull. You CAN hit around 6-7 mobs with no corner easily if you do things right. Warlord has a lot of HP which gives you a lot of time to pick position if you do not panic.
I done the party mobs deep in Garden of Eva using no corner with 1 SE support from behind quite easily.

Critical Stun stunts at a constant rate (if I remember correctly - 14%) of your critical hits. It has nothing to do with the mob you are targeting. So just think about it, if you are hitting 5 mobs and each 8th hit is a critical that makes around 8% of your hits stunning. Which mean you'll stun 1 hit out of 11.5. And consider that he's stunned for around 10 seconds and u still hit. A stunned mob you hit is like a healing potion for u under VR. Wideblow could be very usefull at mass pvp. That is why I say - do not bother until A grade.
From my own experience, around lvl 50 when fighting 5-6 mobs, at any moment of the fight 1-2 mobs are stunned - which make a great diffirence.
I think there are some more Warlord topics not mentioned.
I'd like to mention Warlord is a RICH charecter because he uses like 5 times less SS than others and is usualy lvling on green or even light blue mobs which result in more drop for less xp. This joy however is ceased by the price of topB pole (Lance) - around 32-35kk on Hindemith.
Also a Warlord could be a great help for helping level new charecters offparty together with SE. If u arm the noobie with pole, be off party with WL, provoke the mobs and then do Howl at them (-33% p def) the newbie could easily take those mobs out quickly and have all xp to himself.
One more point not covered is that a pole arm is actually longer than any other weapon which lets you attack a melee mob/player who is rooted without him being able to hit you back.
