Last night I was playing with my wolf pet, and he got killed while fighting some monsters. My ISP went down as I was trying to resurrect him, and I was not able to log back into the game for a while. When I was finally able to log in, my pet was gone along with his armor and weapon.
I thought that I read if your pet dies and u get disconnected that he goes back into your inventory, and that when you use the wolf collar the next time you log in, he comes out dead and you can resurrect him.
His name is Poppy, and I have been leveling him off and on since C1. He was lvl 48 and it took a VERY long time to get him that high. I would never, ever leave my pet dead without trying to log back in and resurrect him.
I worked so hard to get him to that level to have my ISP disconnect me and lose such a hard-earned pet. If I could make a suggestion for a future update to make sure that the pets not disappear and just go back in your inventory when they die and log out, I'm sure that it would relieve a lot of heartache. People work very hard to have pets in Lineage2 and to have them disappear due to a game crash, or an ISP cutting you off is not fair. Please, Please help me get Poppy back!
I am a scavenger and having the extra 300+ patk that Poppy has really helps when I am out leveling. Plus, pets make lineage2 more fun.
I am posting this in the forum because I want to know what else to do. I don't think I am getting very far with email support.
Here is the response after I submitted an email to support:
Response (GM Nissea) 03/28/2006 09:34 AM
Greetings,
Thank you for contacting Lineage II. If your pet died when you get disconnected, he does not return to your inventory. You must log back in within 20 minutes to rez it, or it will disappear. Unfortunately we are unable to compensate for this issue.
Regards,
GM Nissea

Hello [omitted],
Thank you for contacting Lineage II e-mail support.
We thank you for your inquiry. We are escalating your issue to a Senior Customer Support Representative to further assist you. Once we have reviewed your inquiry someone will be in contact with you as soon as possible.
WOW! Thank you for caring! I'm glad that you understand that I just lost my wolf due to no fault of my own, and that I COULD NOT LOG BACK IN! Why do these unfortunate curcumstances happen at just the right time?
I know you guys can return items, because I have had a GM return items (when there used to be in-game GMs) I have lost when the servers used to go down a lot.
You guys can summon raid bosses outside of the towns anytime u want, now please summon my pet back in my inventory or my warehouse!!!! THIS IS NOT FAIR!!!! PLEASE FIX THE PET LOSS, AND MAKE THEM GO BACK IN YOUR INVENTORY WHEN THEY DIE! We work too hard to have them taken away and be told, so sorry, thank you for playing!
It's absolutely ridiculous, that you lose pets, when you don't log in after 20 minutes.
You don't lose your buffs after 20 minutes, if you have been logged out, everything connected to a player, but pet matters stay the same when logged out. They need to do the same for pets, for this very reason.
ncsoft is stupid with pets they should always just reappear in the item when disconnected or they die. I would seriously be happy if pets just automatically went to the item upon death with no chance of xp rezing them it was just lost but the pet could be resummoned alive after. Yeah we would lose more xp with pets but never lose the pet
Have you ever leveled a pet? They die fster then [censored] maybe if they didn't suck at taking damage and they died and gotlost it would be more the fault of the owner
Imo your all wrong. As always.
I class a pet as a weapon, if you were to die and drop your weapon then your ISP goes down, then the chance is your gunna lose that weapon for good.
You loseing your wolf is no different then losing a weapon/item when you die and drop it then your ISP crashes. Its gone...usually. The GM cant bail you out for something that wasnt their fault, even tho it may be dodgey game design, but then you should post in the game suggestions forum.
Edit: As for crying over it...pull yourself together, people have lost alot worse then a stupid lvl 48 wolf and just took it on the chin. I wont go into what ive lost as thats not the point.
I have infact level'd a hatchling to a strider back in C3, it was hard work so i do understand what it would feel like and understand how much work goes into pets, but the thing is, i took care of mine and it never died, not once.
Disclaimer: Yes i know you cannot drop weapons on death unless red with 5+ pk's, its simply an example.
She was rez'ing it when she lost connection. I can't think of what she could have done to 'take better care of it.' If you are saying, 'Don't ever let your pet die,' well, that isn't very helpful.
I thought that the pet follows the owner, dead or not. If you SoE with a pet dead, it appears in town with you, still dead.
If you lose connection with a pet dead, it should not persist in game and be lost after 20 minutes. It should reappear when you log in, still dead.
The Rule stated by the last GM would mean any player subject to a power outage is at risk of losing their pet, and this just doesn't seem right. The rule on lost connections, as I understand it, is that if the lost connection prevents you from taking action to prevent a loss, that loss is returned. That always struck me as a very fair rule.
The current rule is fine. Otherwise people would never lose their pets. It would be all to easy to log out during the 20 min timer and find an alt to come rez it under certain circumstances.
Sps has a habit of saying cruel, useless stuff. You can't control your ISP connection.
I can see why they didn't recover the wolf, in a way. They can't control your connection. BUT for good customer service you'd think one would see that a rez was attempted, they got DC'd and just give it back. It's not like it hurts anything.
Im keeping it real, not being cruel.
If i was being cruel i would slaughter the guy for crying over loseing a game-wolf in real-life, but i will restrain myself. I like to think i have an ounce of goodness in me.
For customer service to check the logs to see that a rez was being done would mean they would actually have to do something other then sending out their automatic "tough luck and thank you for playing" reply
GM's only send out auto reponses to people who send them stupid petitions or the same old crap like "xxx" is a bot.
If you lose an item due to server crashing they will always return it to you, they actually will do something about it so you cant fault them there.
I can only hope you loose your toons so i can write:
"You should have taken better care of it."
You may want to grow up a little there bro cause you surely do not help with these kinds of comments.
To the OP:
Sorry to see you lost your pet. ISP problems are out of your hands but allso out of the hands of NCsoft I have to grant them that. Indeed it would be good customer service if they returned the pet. An upgrade to a more user-friendlier pet system would be nice but that's up to the developers.
I could imagion that NCsoft might be willing to refond your pet if you got some written notice from your ISP about the internet connection loose as proof before returning your pet.
Ofcourse that's something they will have to make a policy about whether or not they would be willing to accept it.
I know this is just a game, but I'm actually gettin teary-eyed over this. I spent so much time leveling him. How silly to get so upset about a game.
I know the feelings... games are very real in the fact that they play with yer feelings, sometimes very harsh. I've cried many times playing, honestly. Mostly in MMO's from things such as leaving ppl or LS/Clans/PT's, but also when loosing really great gear over unfair conditions (as you seem to think atm it happens).
And honestly that's also what I love about certain games, it really grabs you. Both in a good and bad sense =)
If it didnt die it wouldnt have happened. Take care of your stuff and nothing goes wrong seriously. I never let my dragons die i protect them hardcore style. The fact is his pet died due to his lack of experiance, he got in over his head or it got pk'd because he wasnt carefull. Then his IP goes down, which is not the fault of the GM's or NCsoft. The problem is completly his and he hasnt any rights to get his pet back.
Dont rip on me because i argue to oppersite point of view, what did the OP expect, a huge 100 page petition all signed without argument to get his pet back?
people have lost alot worse then a stupid lvl 48 wolf and just took it on the chin.
It can be very real for some players, the kinda ppl who bring major depth in roleplaying even though it doesnt exist at first sight. I'm that kinda person. If I was to own a pet, I would be very attatched to it, I cant see the point of leveling a pet otherwise, but thats just me. I dont treat things in a MMO-world as tools of gaining greater power, even though they look only like tools sometimes.
Imagintion brings depth, and depth brings personal emotions... tears and so on.
The fault is still his for letting it die. If it didnt die he would still have it no? If his ISP didnt go down then he may still have it yes, but that factor cant be controlled by the GM's/NCsoft. So they have no reason as to why they should give him a new one. All you can do is get a better ISP.
SPS, just cut the [censored] and go into another thread.
NCSoft GM's - If your going to make it take months to accomplish something just so you can loose it by a technical glitch that the player has no control over, just fix the stupid thing. People getting there lvl 46 wolf back isnt going to change the dynamic of a whole **** server.
Even having a 6x Tank with you doesnt mean your pets not going to get killed. If i ever lost my hatchling like that you bet **** sure you'd be hearing from me.
Well i difinitly understand the OP's feelings on this one, it takes alot of effort to lvl a pet, n there fun to have around, else why bother lelving one... I would freak out to if i where to loose my pet like u did.
N please GM's fix that person up with her poppy, u obviously see that this was out of there hands here... N im sure the log will show a rez atempt or something..... So please rectify this, it doesnt make sence that OP should loose all that hard work n FRIEND.......
PS dont pay any attention to SPS, he never has anything good to say on anything, plus if this was hapening to him, he would be asking gm's n support to fix it so he can have is pet bck, or Ebay another one.... so hypocritical some ppl are...
LoL. Ive lost alot worse then a wolf pet through the same problem he had, i didnt even bother to petition because i know it had nothing to do with ncsoft. Its a waste of the OP's time to try get his pet back, it aint gunna happen because it wasnt the fault of the game. He should give up and start leveling a new one.
it aint gunna happen because it wasnt the fault of the game
that remains to be seen and this is what is open for debate.
Yes, the Pet Died,
Yes, the Player got disconnected before resurrection,
BUT! Is the 20 min grace period for pet rezes supposed to apply only for 20 mins Real time or 20 mins game time (including Log out/disconnect). Thats the question.
I dont think she should just "give up" as you suggest, she should fight NC until she gets a proper response from an upper tier GM.
2. A pet usually always die when you die, especially when disconnected, so its redicilous to lose it EVERY time, that would be like your armor or weapon be permanently gone every time you die.
Forget about it, you are not going to get help. I petitioned about a pet cougar that was lost due to a bug, didn't get any compensation there either.
So sadly yes, leveling pets in L2 is a rather silly deal. Good think Kir has been lucky and this didn't happen to her, imagine her internet going down and Mana being permanently lost.
Incase you didnt read it, i had a disclaimer at the end of my post, go look.
Pets should remain ingame dead after you disconnect, for the sole reason that the 20min rule really will mean a 20 min rule, not have an infinity to prepare your self to rez it. It would be stupid to allow people to log out with a dead pet so they can run an alt char/account and hand over a rez scroll. If that was the case it would be impossible to lose your pet.
You will not get Poppy back. I know, it's not fair.
If you log out intentionally when your pet is dead, it is returned to your inventory intact. If you are disconnected, it is not. I realize there is no good explanation for why a player is punished for an accidental disconnect but not an intentional disconnect, but such is NC policy.
No it would be sensible to allow the pet to go with you when disconnected, considering your pet is almost garanteed death on disconnect. Not even items are that bad, those you can at least have a friend pick up or heck they will stay for hours on end provided noones around.

Typically you wouldn't lose the pet anyhow, doesn't it go with you to town when you SOE even if it's laying there dead... even if you both die and you release to town, doesn't it still follow you back to town for it's rez?
Then you just log out, it seems like it does return to your inventory when you log out.
And even if you don't have an SOE, you can use /unstuck, that takes 5 minutes and I am sure you have *something* you can sell to buy a res scroll. (and how the hell did you get into a situation where the pet died if you didn't get a SINGLE adena drop)
1) If the pet owner restarts when the pet is alive, it will immediately return to its control item. But if the pet owner restarts when the pet is dead, the pet will not instantly return to the control item. The dead pet will remain in corpse state for 20 minutes, and then disappear along with the control item. If the pet is dead and less than 20 minutes has elapsed when the pet owner exits the game, the pet will not return to the control item; and upon logging in again the pet will still be dead with no HP.
2) If the server goes down while the pet is dead, the pet will be unconditionally returned to the control item. If the pet is re-summoned it will appear with an HP of 0.
Seems if its your side of the connect goes down then its oh too bad. If there end it goes down they will uncoditionally return your pet (did with mine)
Ah ok, haven't tried logging out with the pet. But it really makes little sense that rule. You don't even have a 20 minute rule on your items. And other people can't pick up your pet.
So unless you account share and are able to call them, they you can be screwed out of possibly years of work.
I can't possibly see the benefits in "exploiting" this for any powergamer, they'd just ress the pet, its not like res scrolls of either kind cost much.

Is this a C4 thing? It did not work this way in C3...
That is the correct answer. The term dodgey is not strong enough.
ISP disconnects are a fact of life. Normally this is just an irritation. The dead pet issue is just another way for NCSoft to turn irritation into heartbreak.
If you want a pet, you have to read other forums to find the exploits. Abuse the exploit until NCSoft fixes it, they wont punish you. The whole reason pets exist, is so people can find exploits. It is part of the game design.
That's the most "Human" reply I've seen in this thread.
To tell you the truth, I'm with SPS on this one. Rules are rules, sorry about Poppy...
On the other hand, there might be a way to get rid of these types of issues. I'll let the pet experts discuss (****, where is Kiranya when you need her...)
I' can't beleive at remark how good the support is out of "support.lineage2.com". Man ! You guys and gals are good, real good.
Now give back Poppy to the OP, and fix these kinds of issues.
And if we unplug your internet after we do away with your doggie..
Muahahaha NCSOFT won't give him back!
ARRRRG ! NOES ! Not my dog !
That's why I have zero tolerance for downtime. People like me can't handle downtime on a commercial server. I am the shark and the Internet is my waters.
In my opinion, you should not be able to lose your pet. EVER.
Well I had a similar case when pets were released. I had been leveling mine when it had died, I did not have a res scroll with me so I used a scroll of escape to go back to town. Teleported right outside of the magicshop luckily, ran in and bought a scroll of ressurection. Started scroll of ressurection on pet and before it finished pet dissapeared. The total time from the time pet had died to when I had used the scroll of ressurection was 2 minutes tops. After a couple consultations with high gm support, it was determined through the logs that I had done everything I could have in time alloted and the pet was eventually returned to me. It did take a few days and many petitions though. This was way before the new rules of 20 mins, back then I believe the pet was supposed to remain for 5 minutes.
After sifting through all the replies, and from recent experiences leveling a pet myself, I would suggest giving back the pet is the only real course of action.
Without debating the philosophy over whether one should be held to a rule just because it is a rule, even if it is an obviously bad rule (though I tend to agree more with the idea that no rule should be created which is bad, and every rule which is shown to be bad should be removed), one can consider this entirely from a human standpoint.
In the current chronicle, when aggro mobs tend to attack the pet first even when the pet's master is inifinitely closer, it is not always possible to avoid having a pet be instantly slain before you have a chance to try to save it. In the case of a wolf who cannot be left in a protected niche safe from aggroing mobs while you go level, as it must deal damage to gain exp, this is an omnipresent problem. Thus a wolf which is being leveled will always end up in some unavoidable situation leading to an unavoidable death, the owner does not kill this wolf through neglicence, instead the game kills the wolf through design and this will be no fault of the owners. So we have shown here that not every wolf death is caused by the player, nor is every death avoidable no matter how hard one may try.
Disconnects and stodgy internet service are just another constant hassel for some people, something which they cannot avoid. Is it right, to harm someone for being the recipient of a loss of service which they could not have prevented? When they could choose between either a stable internet service or a nonstable one, and only their cheapness makes them choose the nonstable one, then yes they are responsible for whatever loss of service they could have prevented by having a looser wallet. But in an area where there is only one ISP company, then having a loss of service is not something the person could have prevented by shelling out more cash, and so the person need not be held accountable for something they could not prevent (if this happens to look like the above wolf death idea, that is not coincidence).
Therefore when a person is faced by the loss of a pet due to the compounding problems of unavoidable death and unavoidable loss of internet service, they should not be held responsible for what they could not have prevented.
Everyone knows that a game world that is perpetual creates more of an emotional attachment than a one-player, once-the-machine-is-off-the-world-is-gone type game. Although it's not the stated vision for the Lineage II world, it is a desirable by-product that NCSoft isn't complaining about.
NCSoft goes through the motions of "immersing you in the game", yet when something like this happens, it's "so sad, you're out of luck. Thank you for playing Lineage II." That is so a "not my job" mentality it stinks.
What's sad about this is that NCSoft loves the publicity they get when people like Kiranya level a wolf (or two :) ) to 60+ (it made their news section). She's practically a spokesperson for them. What would happen if her dog Mana went poof over something like this? They'd get a pretty bloody marketing nose if that happened. They probably wouldn't report "First Wolf Over lvl60 Dies Due To ISP Failure" either.
Why does it have to go poof after only 20 mins? Players don't go poof. Items don't go poof. Theoretically, either could lay there for days if a person was waiting on a rez, or if the server wasn't full of people running around picking stuff up.
In another very popular MMO I played, dead players bodies persisted on the server for up to 1 week. All their items remained on the corpse until looted.
Servers would not grind to a halt from lag if bodies were given more than 20 minutes as a corpse. This needs to change.
(By the way, some of this has been stated by others, but meh, after I wrote it, I didn't want to change it. Great minds think alike.)
Awww, come on, you know that you will be overjoyed the day you get a powerfailure or internetfailure in your area right at a critical moment that last longer than 20 minutes and *poof* gone is that pesky wolf, think of all the wolf food you can spare!
:(
*is still mad NCSoft wouldn't even return his cougar after wasting 500.000+food*
I've decided to put a face on this tragedy. Download this replay file and view it through your LineageII game (put it in your LineageII/replay folder and replay it from your LineageII log on screen) to see just what has become of Mariequita since she lost her wolf. So sad...
I am very sorry to hear another player lost something dear and precious to him/her simply because of unlucky circumstances when he/she was at absolutely no fault.
Ever since pets have been introduced to Lineage II they were far too easy to lose in my opinion. In C1 you could lose a pet forever just by creating a shortcut for the wrong pet action. If you clicked the dismiss action in the pet window a confirmation dialogue appeared, but if you used "dismiss" (or whatever it was called) in the quickbar the pet was immediately gone forever. The dismiss icon looked very similiar to the icon of the attack action to make it worse (two parallel swords instead of one).I guess that was one of the reason why many people gave up on leveling wolves very quickly. That and 80-100% experience loss for each death...
Fortunately, the pet system has undergone many changes as time passed by: cheap blessed resurrection scrolls for pets have been added, pets don't automatically drop all items upon death anymore, pets have gained the "ability" to draw aggro from mobs, the experience loss by death has been reduced to about 1/10 of what it used to be, soulshots, spiritshots and blessed spiritshots for pets have been added, and the time you have to resurrect your pet has been increased from three to twenty minutes. There is, however, still one major flaw in the pet system of C4 in my opinion: The 20 minute timer running while you are logged out ><
To be honest, I can't think of a single reason why this timer should be running when the owner of the pet is not online... Someone who cares about his/her pet can easily find a way to resurrect it within twenty minutes by in-game restrictions. Even in a worst case scenario, where the pet owner gets PKed while his pet is dead, there is always the possibility to return to the nearest town and buy a resurrection scroll there. Even if your are red yourself and have a high PK count it's possible to buy a scroll at Floran. No one could gain any real benefit by logging out with a dead pet or "cheat" on the timer system in any way if the timer would only run while the player is online.
On the other hand, there is a very obvious reason why the timer should NOT be running and anyone who hears of a case like Mariequita's should be able to see it: People who really care about their pets can lose them because of technical problems. Now you could argue that it's the same with other player losses that happen due to technical issues, for example if you drop an item then get disconnected and can't reconnect again or if you die because of lag and drop an item. Someone else might pick up the item and it's lost for you as well or the server might go down. The difference here is that a pet, by the in-game mechanic restrictions is very easy to resurrect. If you have dropped an item on the other side, there are many issues that can prevent you from recovering the dropped item. No other player can steal your dead pet nor will it get deleted by a server down.
If the server goes down while the pet is dead, the pet will be unconditionally returned to the control item. If the pet is re-summoned it will appear with an HP of 0.
So I think you can't really compare these two cases. Also, the chance to lose a pet by the 20 minute timer because of connection issues is so much higher than the chance to die and lose a specific item by dropping it because of connection issues, it's ridiculous.
Someone claimed there should be a risk to lose pets: there already is one without the 20 minute killer: You can always drop the wolf collar / the control item upon death like any other item in your inventory and I don't see why there should be an additional risk to lose pets. It would make more sense to make it less likely or even impossible to lose pets as it is with another kind of "most precious items": equipped weapons. I really hope the 20 minute timer will be abolished in the near future. There are very few devoted pet owners already. Stop making them constantly worry that they might lose their dear pet to which they dedicated so much time because they get disconnected in a bad moment. Pets are more than just regular items to many players, yet they are easier to lose.
@SPS: Wolves die much faster than hatchlings (even if the wolf has the top armor and the hatchling has none) and there can always be an unlucky coincidence that leads to the death of your pet. Even a very skilled pet keeper may have connection at one time or get an unlucky respawn that instantly aggroes on the pet.
@Mariequita: I really hope the GMs will help you. I wish you good luck with the petition ><
(P.S.: May I ask on which server this happened?)
This awful event occured on Erica server. I am still persuing the petition, hoping that the GM's will decide to have a heart. I've had Poppy since before C1 and have tried leveling him on a few of my characters. He has been a source of great joy, and now great sadness.
Sometimes a pet dies because we want the name on the pet for a new, better pet.
5 minutes after our pet dies, we should be given an option:
"Do you want your pet to disappear"
Click yes or no.
Click yes.. byebye doggie.
Click no.. doggie goes back into the summon item at 0hps, having lost all the xp applicable.. Next time you summon him, he's dead, you have to rez him.

Your precious poppy is just an ID in a database!
Then again so are we according to the matrix

Well, I don't own a wolf, but your point is.....argh...I can't even think it! The horror of losing LordVaako...I don't want to go there LORD!
Remember, someone who chose to raise a pet for their personal enjoyment shouldn't be mocked because they've now lost that companion. Everyone plays this game for their own reason, and I find it sad that a few posts here were really rather mean spirited to the original poster. :(
If you spent weeks or months getting the money and mats together to craft what you consider to be an important ietm (armor, weapon, whatever) and after doing so you lose it (however you do) I'd think you'd feel the same sick feeling. It was something you worked hard for and *poof* it's gone. I always feel sad for folks who go through this, whatever the item they valued. :(
The reason pets dissapear after 20 mins and items dont is because they decompose. Your friend poppy who died on the battle field, through what i believe to be your fault, has been broken down by decomposers, your wolf has returned into the energy cycle. Just think of all those gross little microorganisms feeding on Poppy's body
i lost a spare homu +5 on my prophet when it died and then lost connection just like u. couldnt get it back.
UNLESS u get this thread at least up to 20 pages of please give me my dog back and please give him his dog back, u wont make enough impact on their "heart" (rofl).

If that was the reason why pet corpses disappear then player corpses should do so as well. And if you seriously believe it's always the pet owner's fault when a pet dies you probably don't know what lag is or never leveled a wolf with a non-tank class and never had someone PK your pet.
I have access to a lvl 7x gladiator of my friends on erica, if he lets me, ill happily hand your *** to you on a plate. Otherwise i can use my DA i have there o.O. I played erica before i moved to bartz...

Interesting. I thought that account sharing was contrary to the EULA and bannable.
No matter what that account still belongs to the person that set it up. You may be playing on it and you may even pay for it, but that account could still be "recalled" at any time. It is against the User Agreement to share accounts. But with that said we do not go on account sharing witch hunts. So if this is between you and a friend... so be it. But if the poo hits the fan and you call support to have something fixed or get a refund because the account was recalled. You will be out of luck.
