Great! (http://www.plaync.com/help/billing_change.html)
As if our californian economy wasnt bad enough with all the Movie Studios/actors, Gas guzzing SUVs, Property Taxes, we have to put up with NC Soft Taxes as well?
Bah!
No Taxation without Representation!
I wanna see my Tax dollars at work! Stop the Imigration and overpopulation of Adena Farmers!!! New Paved Roads for Adens dirt paths! Safer Streets with Anti-PK Police force, Warefare for the hacked and scammed!
We are already paying 17% for the oversea charge, if paying by CC.. I remember that to be some import tax or something. Luckily, they sell GTCs over here at no extra charge.
This concept only works in a Democratic society. Which we all know, NCSoft cares nothing for the voices of it's constituencey, other wise they would build a wall, keeping out all the illegal immigrants (sorry, undocumented workers for you squishies) that are picking the adena crops for the farmers.
BTW, it's always been the law the companies must charge sales tax. The whole Internet is funky and taking a bit for laws to catch up. Expect to be paying tax on most Internet stuff on the future. It isn't a bad thing though but just enjoy the taxless items you can buy for now :)
Technically, before the Internet, any item you bought out of your living state had to be registered with your home state upon bringing it back. You'd then pay the taxes on it, or, if the state you bought it from had higher taxes, you'd be reimbursed. Currently, this is hard to enforce and really only done with cars bought out of state since it's easy to keep track of due to registration. I found this out when I was going to buy a car in another state one time. It's kind of interesting. I was going to buy it in Hawaii which had a 5% (I forget) tax and register it in Cali which has a 7.5% (?) tax. So, when I buy the car in HA I pay 5% tax. I then register it in Cali. When I do that I pay the 2.5% tax to Cali and then Cali goes to Hawaii and has them transfer their 5% to to them, thus Cali gets their 7.5%. This is because tax is supposed to be where the item is used not bought.
And one final thought: if they didn't figure out ways to get their sales tax money from the Internet that just means that states (which is their main income) would lose money and would just come up with even better ways to get their money.
Sorry if this seemed like a rant, was meant to be more educational than anything since it really seems a bigger deal than it is :)
germany doesnt have 25% sales tax does it? charging VAT on overseas CC payments LOL so glad i dont live on the mainland. i pay by cc in $ so it isnt taxed, but, on my other acc i pay in £ and it works out slightly higher cos it isnt converted from $.
Americans always moan about tax, even when tax paid in Britain in 1700's was 20 times MORE than in the colonies they moaned lol. Army that protected the colonies from the French was reason for taxes lol. Wish we let France wipe em out i prefer Quebec to USA ;)
the issue wasn't the tax it was that UK relies on virtual representation whereas here we have direct representation. The colonists felt that their interests weren't being represented by someone who'd never even seen the colonies.
Why were the colonists complaining? Well not all of them were, as can be seen from the fact that some actually fought with the British. But the reason for the complaint isn't easy to find, and will be slightly different depending on your source material, and the sub population you are examining.
The colonists got what they wanted, land, which some of them simply could not have owned otherwise, and others got it more cheaply. Considering the length and difficulty of travel at this time, would it be practicle to allow for direct representation? Not really, if a government is slow to act when all members can meet at any time, how much longer will it be to act when some members require up to 3 months of traveling time to arrive once they receive a summons which itself could take a month or more to get to this member of parliment?
Most grievances alone were petty things, and if there had been no reaction by the colonists, some of the other grievances would not have happened.
Though the true test of whether the colonists had done the right thing, and enacted a government better than they one they left, can be found under a close examination of the whiskey rebellion. Many high school textbooks will call consider this the true test of the new government, though I see it as an inability of the colonists to create something different from what they rebeled against from the getgo.
And this is repeated again to a larger degree during the Civil War, which is case in point, just the revolutionary war with parties who don't have an ocean seperating them.
