SR Using daggers till 52.

Player Questions Started Last reply 23 posts
Since bows are so expensive at D & C grade, I was wondering if it'd be effective to use a dagger till level 52. Just keep Vicious Stance(sp?) on at all times and spam SS. I was thinking about getting critical bleed on the dagger (right now I have a cursed maingauche) because I'm mainly going to be farming in Cata's and I figured the bleed would hurt the mobs there very badly.

Thanks for any info you can give
I know that HEs can do that just fine, so why not SRs?
This isn't a bad idea. Most archers I know that solo have a dagger for use while they regen mp, gives them much less downtime.

Add in VR, and you're in business.
u need focus weapon: dark creamer, DE dagger for C grade.
VS + Dagger works great, esp when you are buffed w/ DW/Focus (even better w/ fire dance).
What SA's does the best C dagger have? Because I was just going to trade my Sword Singers SLS for the best C dagger at mammon.

Since bows are so expensive at D & C grade...

Bows are expensive at D and C grade???
Actually, bows are exactly the same price than any other weapon at C and D grade, since you can exchange them. Bows are **** expensive at higher grades! (although they got cheaper recently, at least on Hindemith)

In C and D grade you can actually save money with a bow. With a bow you can easily kill stuff without SS (or maybe SS on first shot), since you do good damage anyway and you can kite mobs. I wouldn't try playing a melee class without SS, especially not one with light armor. And the price of arrows is really nothing to bother about.

But of course you can use daggers until 52. The question is, can you afford a b-grade bow at 52? Most people playing normally with the first char (and without "other" sources of adena) use their C-weapon until about lvl 56-60. And you don't wanna use a dagger that long, do you?

I have never used a dagger after lvl 40, but I would guess, as soon as you can get a bow with cheap shot, the bow will be more effective, since there will be no downtime anymore. I don't know about the downtimes of a dagger-using archer, but you surely get more damage, since your evasion is not that great in these lvls yet and you have no heavy armor mastery. Dagger might be nice as long as you can't afford that eminence bow, though.

But of course, since you can exchange C grade weapons any time, just have a go, try both and you will see what you like best.
What you say about how fast a bow can kill mobs would be true, if I were also going HE. But, SR's have quite a bit less strength then HE's which means they have quite a bit less damage. And anyways, it's to hard farming in cata's with bows and I want seals :p

Not a big fan of grouping and it's not like people are begging SR's to group with them anyways <.<
If you are going to play an archer you should learn to kite....especially if you are going to be soloing.

I'm not a newbie = \. I know how to kite. It's just not the easiest thing to do in small areas(like inside cata's)...
crit power. on crystal dagger.
still focusued dagger (esp if you can find OE'd DE dagger is the best - the best focus in game+only 2 css per hit)
Thanks for all the answers everyone, but still one more question.

I should be going for Theca Armor, correct?
Incorrect, you should be going for Plated Leather armour.
Theca is the very last choice: PL, Drake and even Mithril sets are way better.
You want solo in catas using light armor?
How much does the whole plated leather set cost together?

Exactly. You are an Archer, why would you wanna use a Dagger? Your dagger skills were last upgraded at 35. Unlike Rogues or Assasins, as a Light elf, you only get 1 Critical Passive. Using a Dagger as an SR is stooopid imo.

When I was lvl 49.5, I found a great deal on BoP, so I sold my Emi bow and used a dagger for the remaining 2.5 levels till 52. Oh boy how horribly slow that went for me. As soon as i hit 52, I made a level ding in far faster time than it seemingly took me to go from 49.5 to 50.

Moral of the story, you're a Ranger, use your bow.

Make sure you slap a Cheap Shot on your bow and say good bye to Rest for MP. Just don't stand around and shot, your MP regens much better when you're running around than when you're standing still.

I see you're on Erica, price of Plated Leather's Top and Bottom has been at it's lowest recently. Friggin boots are still around 4-5m. I have seen PL gaiters as cheap as 500k and top for a lil over 1.2. Which is a LOT less than when I bought my set

If you wanna try soloing a cata, you can do it with DS + Focus and as high of an SE buffs as you can get, but it's doable. Green-Light Blue mobs.
SS usage on bows are high on D and C grade..

if u have VR buffbot i would go dagger until 52..

moral of the story B grade is better as C grade

your comparing a b grade bow to a cgrade dagger no wonder you lvl faster with the bgrade equipment.
>>Moral of the story, you're a Ranger, use your bow.

Moral of the story is that you completely dont know how to play w/ dagger and the other moral of the story is: you completely ignore xp wall...

Moral of the story is that you completely dont know how to play w/ dagger

Quite true. Daggers Suck. If I wanted to play with a dagger, and run from mob to mob swinging the dagger around, guess what, I'd roll me a Dagger class instead of a Ranger.

Plus, let me mention one more thing on why it sucks playing with a Dagger if you're an SR:

Lets compare the 3 hybrid classes(Rogue, Scout, Assasin)

Rogue:

lvl 24: Critical Power lvl 1
lvl 28: Critical Chance lvl 1
lvl 32: Critical Power lvl 2

Assasin:
lvl 24: Critical Power lvl 1
lvl 32: Critical Power lvl 2

Elven Scout:
lvl 32: Critical Chance lvl 1 <-- That's it. This baby Starts and Stops right here at lvl 32.

Sure, if you're playing an HE or PR, you have one more or 2 more skills (lvls) of Passive Critical. As a Light Elf, you only have ............. 1 .............
When you turn Silver Ranger at 40, you do not get anymore upgrades for the passive Critical skill.

You have far more incentive to use a Dagger if you're a Rogue, then Assasin, and lastly a Scout.

But..... I guess I am wrong, and you are right. So I won't say anything else on this matter.

and the other moral of the story is: you completely ignore xp wall...

Uhm, yeah. I always though that the higher up you go, the more XP you need. So the amount of XP needed to go from lvl 49.50 to 50 is far less than the amount of xp needed to go from lvl 52 to 53.

I guess I am wrong here either and you're right.

By the way, when I used a dagger, to minimize time between kills, I was fighting in none other than the little area around Ivory Tower. Where there are large concentration of mobs, very close together. It still wasn't going fast enough for me as when I turned 52 and was able to use a Bow once again.

Oh boy how horribly slow that went for me. As soon as i hit 52, I made a level ding in far faster time than it seemingly took me to go from 49.5 to 50.

Just to note here admiral, that's because one of the largest pre-70 level walls occurs at level 50---> 51 ^_^. Overhitting Cave Servant Warriors, I went from .14% at 49 to .08% per mob at 51.

Box, you've quoted me, but did you REALLY Read the quote?

Did you understand the line you just quoted?

Did I mention there anywhere levels 50-51? No. I didn't.

I kept on saying 49.50 to 50.

But alas, I digress and won't say it again.
you want to hunt the cata as an SR ... solo even eh ... get a SE with VR3 and a set of FullPlate and a Pole ... gather 4-6 mobs and wail away ... make sure mobs are green ... drops are good xp is great and pretty safe with the SE ... then when your done with your cata fun go and find real mobs to hunt in fields and under the beautifull Aden Skies ... ;)
oh ya it does cost more to run two sets of gear for one char though ...
