Treasure chests

On todays server maintenance it says Corrected an issue with the name of Treasure Chests.

Does this mean we will only see treasure chests and not boxes anymore? Would hate to waist keys on chests but it would be back to normal.
I was just going to post a thread about this myself, I am rather curious. ^_^
From what I understand, all Treasure Boxes and mimics should now have the name "Treasure Chest".
I've been expecting that to happen for a while now T_T
aw dangit! there go all my hopes and dreams of money farming.
:( now we'll never know! :( those stupid chests kick the crap outta my mage up close. stupid things crit for like 1k dmg, as a SH I never have that much hp. My SE is now my key weilder. hehehe
The drop rate, and drop amount from the boxes is so HORRIBLE that this change is a bit depressing.

I really feel they should get rid of the stupid things in general. I had imagined when they first announced the addition of these chests that they would be hard to find, hidden, or far out of the way. Or that they would appear and disappear. Making them rare prizes, and rewarding. I think that would sure beat these worthless boxes littering the countryside.

I mean what pirate would put 3k adena in a treasue chests and put it out in plain sight? bah...anyway
Greetings,

I agree.

When this "bug" was first seen on C4 PTS, I was SUPER happy. I actually thought my unlock skill was usefull now, as I could see both boxes and chests, and with a few quick tests, I quickly discovered boxes were the way to go.

I even asked some mindless idiot to tell me if he saw chests or box : He said I see chest. To me it was a box ! EUREKA !

Then I posted about it and somebody told me it was a bug, everybody saw boxes, it would be fixed before live. Guess they decided now to put the last nail in the treasure chest's coffin.

Mathematically you cannot make money hunting chests. On the PTS it was semi-rewarding (semi-profitable) but on live you will lose money, almost all the time.

Now who the HELL would want to waste time hunting treasure chests to lose adena...

Sometimes I wonder about you peeps, and where you pull your numbers for these kinds of decisions...

mathema-what-now?
Just go back to the C3 standard: Unlock is for a couple doors in game; any other use of it is a waste of resources.

Not that it was a good design in C3 either, but at least it's familiar.

He's saying that the price of the keys necessary to use the Unlock skill is higher than the potential rewards of using the skill. In other words, it's not worth trying.
get to the point; how does this involve doughnuts?
*clap clap* well said............

It is some time very depressing to know certain features that benefits normal game play and legit player(especially to those leisure players who dun play as much) is always adjusted to make our lives more difficult.(eg multiple quest item drop adjusted).

Sometimes their actions tells me they benefits farmers and B**s(<---make a guess urself). In the end, only they have the ability to farm essential items such as mats/quest items such as Inferium Ores etc.....

Sorry admins, I just can't help to feel that way. I tried to adjust my mentality but I just can't help it......

They broke something and then fixed it.
I think you meant to say they broke a fixed vase.

As I see it, the initial treasure chest idea started off broken. There was about a 50% chance that any chest would be either a mimic, or a nonmimick. Now if it was a mimc, it would either kill the player or place them in a situation where they were close to dying as the initial chests hit for a ton of damage with their first hit skill, a hit you couldn't avoid as it happened nearly simultaneously to using a key on a chest. Now if it wasn't a mimick, there was the chance it would either dissapear without giving anything, would give something (a small adena reward more often than not), or it would explode resulting in the same conclusion as the mimick problem. Those chests are what I would consider a broken feature.

Now enter C4, with the seperately labeled chests. One now no longer need fear dying or being injured because they could know immediately if a chest was safe for using a key on or not. So that at least fixed the problem above, as it was now safe to use a key on a chest to see if you would get something or not. Were people now exceeding some predetermined probability to earn a reward? Perhaps they were. But fixing that problem could have been done simply by reducing the chance of a treasure box to drop anything. But even if people were earning something more often than not, at least they were not risking death anymore, and could fully enjoy a feature of the game without heartache or undue stress.

And now comes today's patch. Suddenly we are thrust away from the happy change back into the dark ages. Now again, a player is prevented from participating in what was shown to be a slightly entertaining feature because they know the hearthache were they to die would be greater than the happiness they would earn from being 4,000 adena richer.

The drop rate, and drop amount from the boxes is so HORRIBLE that this change is a bit depressing.

I'm in favor of more mimics, SIGNIFICANTLY less treasure chests, but with better drops from those chests -- including rare item drops, like buff and enchant scrolls, pots, masks, and bulk materials. I never understood why a pirate would only place 1 animal skin in a treasure chest, when all of the surrounding mobs drop animal skin anyway. Dumb pirate???
Greetings,

If they would have been creative, they would have made the unlock skill be able to better tell you if it was a box or a chest. Higher skilled can better spot.

In computer science terms, what they did today we call reverse engineering. You can look here for more information on reverse engineering... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_engineering)

[It can also be seen as "going backwards through the development cycle"] (From link)

EDIT :[On a related note, black box testing in software engineering has a lot in common with reverse-engineering. The tester usually has the API, but his goals are to find bugs and undocumented features by bashing the product from outside.] (Also from link)

If this is the case, then are you saying they want back to the old system just to verify that it was stupid?

I think you meant to say they broke a fixed vase.

Don't tell me what I think.
You mean they fixed something and then they broke it, right? :)

You mean they fixed something and then they broke it, right? :)

Sure, if you're a child who thinks that anything that doesn't work the way you want it to is "broken", then, yeah, that's exactly what I meant...

Well its either consider it broken when it plays the way someone else wants but we don't, or else call it fixed if it plays the way we want but they don't. And quite frankly, since I'm a little selfish, I'd always prefer things fixed to broken, especially when I don't think the other guy knows neither what good things are nor what bad things are.

And I think you'd be hard pressed to find very many people who consider both the first design and this final design to be better than the initial C4 design.
I wouldn't mind it, if all the treasure chests either attacked you, or dropped something upon being opened.

Most of them seem to attack you, or disappear.

From what I understand, all Treasure Boxes and mimics should now have the name "Treasure Chest".

ROFL , so uhm, instead of fixing the Drop rates with the Chests to what they were in C3, now you have no idea which is Mimic and which is the real one? Awesome =)

I have no clue if there's a point in your post or not. To be honest, I'm not patient enough to try to glean one out of it.

Bottom line, they fixed the glitch. Deal.

Bottom line, they fixed the glitch. Deal.

Yes, I remember that quote in Office Space. But... 'fixing the glitch' on Marvin resulted in him burning the building to the ground. (Quick Fade to background shot: burning chests like the Kuwaiti oil fields)

Most folks will simply stop paying any attention to the chests since if you click one, you lose a key, and get either a very small adena reward, or a snapping clam-shell jumping after your retreating toon. (Chests have to be opened at melee range.)

What I'm going to try is the following; find an isolated chest, and twang it with a bow. If you get the mimic, kill it as it snaps its way toward you and then move to another area. If it fades away, it was a box. You then wait until it respawns, and use the key at this point. If the 'improved' chest program randomly sets mimic or box... well.. "WTS Chest Key grade 5."
Pretty stupid imo. I actually had fun unlocking the boxes, went out of my way to use all the keys i got from hunting. I mean [censored], I must have used 200 keys and only got like 3 EAC's, Yes its free, but its not like they dropped something every time. NC's "Fix" sucks.

Jeeze. I feel like I'm explaining something to my 5 year old niece...

It was a mistranslation that labeled these two mobs differently. They fixed it. I'd love it if they accidently made 4x hp mobs 1/4x mobs (with no other change) but I wouldn't [censored] and moan when they changed it back.

That's the way it works in C4. I wouldn't worry too much about the graded chest keys, those are generally worth at least trying (if you're a character who can stand to melee). It's the unlock skill that's not worth the investment.

Graded keys are a drop, and thus basically a freebie, since they have little NPC-store value anyway. The Unlock skill, though, uses a stack of store-bought keys for the same effect--you're actually spending money for the chance to open a chest. However, due to the high cost of keys and the low return per chest, it was hardly even worth trying when you knew ahead of time which were the right chest/boxes. If it's 50-50, we're at "half of barely worth it", which basically means "you'd be a fool to try" :p

I'm not saying this was a bad change, actually. The naming issue was obviously some kind of screw-up that would have been fixed had anyone reported it during PTS (:)). However, I am saying that Unlock isn't worth using on anything but the few doors in the game.

It was a mistranslation that labeled these two mobs differently. They fixed it.

Do you mean that these mobs still have different IDs? :D

What are IDs?
You know, when the Lineage II server tells to the Lineage II client the type of the particular mob, it uses a number (ID) instead of a text string. There were (or maybe still are) some mobs with the differing IDs, but the same names (e.g. Shackles) So if someone... well... breaks EULA... the legit players will be hurt again.

just qas every mob regardless of name has its own unique id, as well as every player, every stem and every SS. so it would at least take some effort to break the eula.

just qas every mob regardless of name has its own unique id,

And not only that ID. Some other, non-unique, regarding its name and appearance, ID, too. Which should not be a surprise, just thinking that no sane developer will send each mob's 3d model over the net each time the mob shows on the client computer could help.

Priority (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=priority)

Seriously . . . Treasure Boxes/Chests were at the top of the list of things to be fixed?

Yes, it took an entire team of developers 2 weeks to change the text; during which nothing else could be done.
there are certain people who use a certain program that can still see the difference between chests and mimics because Mimics show up as a Mob and Chests show up as a item on their radar system.

WTG NCSoft encouraging the use of these programs more why dont you lol

I address this problem back in C3 PTS with (the angel) when me and the FJPTS caught people running up to boxes not opening then moving to the next. Every box they didnt open was a mimic and everyone they did open was chest lol

Dog crap. You're saying that people, who haven't cheated before, will now do so because the fixed this issue?

what im saying is they are giving back an advantage over honest players back to the cheaters again.

I really think NCSoft needs to do impact stuides before they "fix" or "change" anything from now on. Like the drop rule hurts people trying to train farmers out of locations more then it does normal players anymore.

I would say make it a clan skill you clan has to be level 4 or greater to get drop priority for items that are dropped on the ground. Most farmer clans arent level 4 so that solves the problem with farmers benefiting from the change. Alot arent even in clan.

So? You got a freebie for a few weeks. Hope you took advantage of it. Does everyone honestly think that it wasn't going to get changed back??

Does everyone honestly think that it wasn't going to get changed back??

I think that a lot of people, seeing that they could barely make a profit with this bug and that they would be unable to break even without it, convinced themselves that it was intentional. It may not make much sense, but never underestimate wishful thinking.
it didnt get changed back.

I use to open chests on my AW alt in DI with keys i spoiled with my scavy alt.

When i open a chest i get full items (bow of nobility off one mid cgrade bow) weapon heads/armour parts lots of adena 8 - 10 k or stacks of mats 50 - 100.

Now whats the point 2 - 3 k from a chest where i get the same amount of adena from killing a mob the same level. Have fun with it chests are only worthwhile to cheaters to even take the chance on in c4 unlike c3 when chests actually gave rewards that made it worth the risk and time it takes.

It is hard to understand why NCsoft has not removed these now useless chests altogether. Maybe they are actually planning to use them as a part of their bot detection strategy? :D

If they're useless why are you bothering with them? Christ, I see them all over the place and ignore them. Get over it.

I am paying for the traffic ;)

And I don't like the idea that some cheater could benefit from the items that are useless to me.

I guess the idea of a mimic is completely lost on you then...

No, my niece would've gotten it by now.
No, actually, i never said anything about mimics. What i was going to get at is having two sperate boxes, one set that only TH and other classes with unlock skills can take advantage of, and another set that uses normal, dropped keys spread out around aden would have been a good idea to begin with. You get certain level keys in an area, and it makes you explore a whole diffrent area looking for the correct level boxes. But, you annoyed me to the point where i decided i didnt care anymore, up until i had some more free time, which, would be now.

If you'd like me to start pulling your 10k posts apart and calling you childish names, i'm more than willing. Make a new thread for it though, as im not going to ruin this one.

The condescending crap you have posted through this whole thread more then makes up for any actual name you may have not typed.

Let me try again, and watch you take your nieces attitude and stubbornly not see it as confusion, but rather another complaint.

I thought that the change on PTS was NOT a bug.

I thought it was a clever adjustment to get a useless part of the game utilized.

I am not a TH nor any other class that has the unlock skill.

I THOUGHT that what we had in C4 was two types of chests. One that you could use the grade keys to open, and one that an unlock skill was needed with the item key of thief.

How clever!

My rationale was that the drop rates of the Treasure boxes were so crappy, that the treasure chests must have something better in them. They must be the mimmic and nonmimmic chests of C3, with a chance of danger versus a good (well not good but rather ok) return.

So I THOUGHT that when they changed all the names to treasure chest that they were rebreaking the situation.

I am not naive enough to say that this was the OPs opinion or anyone elses, but that is what I got from their comments.

Maybe ask for further clarification rather then showing everyone that someone ****** in your all O alphabits.
I am closing this thread now because of the flaming and personal attacks.
