Is using Catacomb Gate Keepers an offence?

General Discussion Started Last reply 22 posts
Hi,

I have seen in the forums that taken advantage of terrain is an offence you can get banned for. Doesn't that mean that take advantage of Gate Keepeers in Catabombs and Necros are bannable?

Or is it only bannable when PvE, and not PvP?

For example.
When people do PvP in a catabomb and they are about to loose. They use the gatekeeper to jump back and forth so that they stop flagging and after that can rest for HP?
Isnt that an bannable offense?

I would like a GM response to that plz.
taking advantage of the terrain, comes from in prelude to C2, where you could train a while field of mobs, then stand on a cliff where they cant reach you and AOE them to death.

using the gatekeeper is like gatehopping a safezone... its lame but not illegal

Nah he has a good point, I would agree.

It is takeing advatage. for him to have a greatter chance to win in pvp. once out of there it forces the oppent to lose target and stop hiting, givehim self time to heal and pop some CP pots.

It give the user an unfair advangte over the other player.

But there really is nothing they can do, but to give a temp bann for useing this. Or add code that will prevent you from useing the zigguart while in combat mode.

Maybe even take it to the next lvl and say red's can't inter the cat's/necro's.
Hello,

Sorry this is not bannable.

If you started banning people for it then by the same logic you would have to ban people who gate hop in and out of peace zones.

Sorry, its part of the game IMHO.

If they are using it to let the PvP timer wear down, there's a simple solution.

Go red.
I agree that using that tactic to aviod a PvP death is pretty lame, however, using the terrrain to your advantage in PvE is only logical. Just last night, I was in the elven ruins on talking island. We were in the room with the spirts and the weird lookin salamander things. We stood up on the second level, and I would life drain one of them so it would attack us. It's a good tactic to use to avoid aggroing too many at once.

IMO using the terrain or NPC's in PvP or PvE as a bannable offense? No. Cause for the devs to recode the NPC's in the arenas? Definatley. When you commit to a PvP battle, you should be in it to the death.

Perhaps, instead of placing restrictions on who can tele, just make teleporting out of the arena, before the battle is over, an offense punishable by death. That would prevent someone from exploiting it just to drag out the inevitable.

You're only half right. Using the terrain for PvE to attack mobs where they can't attack you back is called perching and is a no no.

Bah, just make it so those Gatekeepers don't work if you're in combat. I agree, though, it's lame.

Maybe im not understanding right here, just explain it to me then ok :)
Ur telling me that if i got an archer or wizard (long range) and that im on a balcony (on a second floor or higher then the ground floor) i cant atck the mobs on the ground floor cuz for what ever reason, they cant atck me, that it should be a banable offence.

That dont make sence, i would say that its perfectly ligit right. If they cant reach ya, is just becuz ur using the terain to your avantage. Its like when u have archers a few storeys higher then u on a castle wall that u cant reach unless u got a range atck (his perching isnt he, by ur logic), its ok there, why not in PvE.

Just elaborate on this if i miss understood this comment at all...

Cheers!!

great idea imo, then if somebody has a train of mobs on them they cant port out to save thier lives !

BSOE still works.
We have a pair of idiots on hinde that use this tactic in branded to grief. As soon as they port in, they somehow have the gk targetted. When you start a skill, they just port, rendering your skill useless, even though it shows you are doing dmg, and you flag. They dont receive the dmg. But then again, these same two have the ability to force logg when paralyzed and when in combat.

And I assume everyone reports them when they force log? I know who you are talking about...

Funny how they can do this while majority of the other players would still have a black screen from teleporting. Also funny how they seem to know exactly when to stop hitting you as soon as your cp breaks

Huh? You get a black screen from this? I need to go check...

if you have a really slow computer u will...

I get a split second blackish screen if memory serves me right, maybe more like a fade in/fade out like teleporting using any gatekeeper in town. Still with the precision of being able to click the gatekeeper that is surounded by people and having to walk 4-5 steps forward on the inside of the catacombs and instantly teleport is unique. For me when I target that gatekeeper it does not bring up the dialog box unless I am right next to it.
That part you can do with a macro.

/target gatekeeper ziggurat
/attack (opens dialogue on NPCs unless you use force attack)

Macros work even when you're blackscreened, same for skills on hotbar so you can UD while porting for example.

Btw, if you're paralyzed, you're not in combat state after the initial 15 secs or so, unless someone is hitting you. Poison doesnt cause combat state either.
It doesn't matter, because bsoes are selling for less than 200K on my server, so pvp is screwed up anyway.
Well, BSOE costs 110k to produce from a Clanhall, and 180k from Mammon so it's pretty easy to get :)
Yeah that's what I mean. So if some poor sucker uses the gk to avoid death (or prolong a loosing battle) then he just didn't have 200K to invest in a bsoe. (Bsoe's have ruined the pvp in the game, but that's another topic) My point is that with cheap bsoes as available as they are; there is no use in complaining about gate hoping or teleporting during a fight. The fight to the death that ended with C2 is gone.
