explanation of skill backstab

i would like to know whether skill backstab has a 100% success rate when attacking the oponent from behind, or there is a chance of failure similar to the other dagger skills like deadly blow/mortal blow.

It's a very low chance but yes.

backstab has 100% success raate if ur 100% behind... wich u never are..

i respect your great ammount of posts but your answer cannot be correct since this would lead to the conclusion that backstab would never land on the oponent. plz if anyone knows something else i would be greatfull to read about. :)

Yes Please i need clarification on this also... I am leveling to be a PW and im not sure if Backstab can be used from the front also just with a lower land rate. ?

it can definetly NOT used from the front.
the question is if the success rate from behind is 100% or not.
i have asked around and people told me that in previous cronicles it was definetly 100% from behind, but it seems to lot of ppl that with the last chronicle something changed in this matter.

it is not 100% but chances for land are affected by Dex, and whether or not you have the "backblow" sa.

but in my own opinion it is much better to use Focus SA as using it increases the chances for ALL blows to land not specifically backblow.

As a TH I have used it from the side, but seems more effective from behind. If it is Aggro I use silent move to move in undetected. ^^

too bad silent move doesnt work on players :P

it is called backstab for a reason. it works BEST from behind, and does nto work AS well the further from the direction of "behind" you are. i.e. it wont work very well from the side and totally never work from the front. the ones that hit hard from all directions ( deadly blow etc) all work no matter the direction but are boosted (a very small bit) by hitting from behind.

tip: use silent step until you are behind your opponent and use backstab. with any focus dagger you should land your strike 9/10 times. however, extremely aggro mobs (ones with very high aggro range) will not land most of the time. on all passive non aggro mobs this trick works close to the factor stated above.

Go backstab the gatekeeper in the catacombs, apparently he is 100% back.

some mobs seem to be buggy sometimes (although it may simply be a lag issue where the mob appears to be facing one direction when it is really looking in another) the backstab only seems to land from the side and not the back. as a general rule though, use it from behind unless you know the mob is buggy.
