From everything I've been told with nukers speed is the key to pvp, power is for pve. The typical setup for an A grade nuker seems to be
+4int -4men
+4wit -4men
DC Robe set
SoM (with acu if possible)
The DC set gives +7 Speed and +15% cast speed I belive (or something like that). My question is mostly about the tats, with a -8 Men most nukers (unless you are a SH) I would think would really miss that m.def and mana regen.
So the question is what other setups could work propery. I considered a NM Set (+damage), +5 Wit, SoM (or other wep with acu). To get the speed and damage could it be better to go Maj, +5INT +4WIT, then use the maj set for regen and cast speed?
Just curious what other combinations have been tried out and which were successful. If you are curious my setup would be for a sorc
I understand and that's exactly why I have to ask. Removing and readding tats to test setups would be a sickly amount of money. So throw in some input.
the loss to mp regen is quite noticeable if you either don't have a recharger at all times, or don't have body to mind (with normal men i get between 4 and 5 mp more a tick than with it nerfed). That may not sound like a lot, but over a 20 minute round, that's a LOT of mp. As far as your actual mp pool goes, you're only talking 100 - 200 mp (its nothing). You will lose a good chunk of Mdef (but in this game mdef doesnt mean much, you'll still die in 2 - 3 hits anyway). The worst part is that by lowering MEN you increase your odds of having magic cancelled, although I couldn't tell you by how much. It's probably not a significant enough amount since even with normal MEN spells still get cancelled a good bit.
The MP regen is negligible. I'm at -9 MEN now and it's only about 3 MP per tick (that translates into 1 nuke every 80 seconds at level 70). The MP pool and mdef went down, but it's not significant by any means. The positive affects of the +INT/+WIT FAR outway the negative affects.
As for my setup, I went +5 INT/+4 WIT and NM for the additional INT. I'm currently using a BOMT w/Acumen, but planning to upgrade to a SOM soon.

My setup was like Meate's in that I had +5 Int and +4 wit. SOM with Acumen and Avadon set.
I actually didn't really notice the mana regen until AFTER I recently changed to +4 Int, +4 Wit, + 4 CON and noticed that when the buffs wore off I had more mana than usual.
But otherwise I would say it is negligible. I am currently going for a nightmare set. I've been told the Dark Crystal is better for PvP and might try it if I can get someone to trade me the sets. My thought was that I would have sleep resist. However, we recently had an Alliance Tournement and I did notice that my casting speed was what helped in the long run (using the Avadon).
A SPS had borrowed a Nightmare set for the event and was horrified at how low his casting speed was.
Well, DC set does have a +15% casting speed, and +2 wit -2 men on top of that, so it is the fastest casting armor (by a fair amount) for sure. Along with the +7 run speed, +8% p def, resist para, slight resist in getting spells intruppted I can't see why any A grade nuker would want any other set. It works well for a healer also.
If you want more m attack to PvE, just get a demon set to bring with and put on the demon robes/gloves then.
For tats get the +4 wit, +4 int for sure, don't worry about mp pool or regan. For SH?necro the +4 wit will increase the casting speed, making BtM faster, meanign more MP. For Sorc/Sps, teh +int will let you kill higher lvl mobs, so more exp per spell, makes up for any little bit extra downtime you might have (solo).
For the last tat spot it is up to you, +1 more either wit/int would be ok, +4 con (what i have) or +4 dex would all be ok and have their own positives.

sigh... I think you are selling me on the Dark Crystal. ****. I have most of the NM set. And DC just looks so plain awful. Sort of like Hazel the Maid.

I have NM set with a +5 SOV/acu +4wit +4 Int -8men. At 64 I 2 hit almost all mobs white to me. Cast speed is over 700 with pots and can get over 1k with buffs and dances. But I pve most of the time so I prefer Matk over speed. I do good at pvp but im not uber like some Sps's I have seen. The down side on this settup is it takes about 5 minutes to regen mp. But to counter that I hunt mostly in the dead forest where mobs appear and disappear. This slows down grinding a bit but I can usually go for about 45 minutes before I have to set and regen.

DC is nice... especially for PvP...
Light elves have 750 cast speed in them unbuffed with a +4wit tat and Acumen weapon.
Do not forget the DC robe gives a "slight" bonus to stop spell interruption.
Nightmare robes have this problem you see... in PvP the DC robed mage is going to hit you three times before you finish a spell due simply to spell interrupts. He doesn't need to sleep you when you cast so slow.
If only Nightmare robes didn't have -WIT and simply made it +2int -2MEN. Losing the +15% cast speed is fine if it didn't subtract WIT.
Tallum robes are not for nukers... -2 INT is just wrong and the bonuses do not help make up for it.
Majestic robes have a reasonable arguement.
-1int hurts, but stun is the bane of wizards and this outfit helps a little... more mana and better regen are a plus. You will be hurting against other mages in PvP, but better versus melee. When they tune melee up, that may be a bigger bonus.
As it stands DC is the only real choice for mages in A grade if you want to PvP at all.
Sovrath is right... DC looks horrible on both DE males and females, incredible on LE males, decent on LE females, temptingly naughty on Human females and almost decent on human males!
Everyone else except DEs look better in DC than without it.
Even the normally fruity LE looks nice in it and even the human males look a little less like women.
I don't know what they were thinking with the DE DC robe.
Likely the same as the Human male mystic in majestic robes.
Oh and don't even get me started on the S-grade piece of junk... Who thought it was cool to make mages look like chickens? (and then made the bonuses pointless as well.)
S-grade Plate class reminds me of stone golems...
S-grade Light armor is dragon armor.
S-grade robes = chicken?
