The reason I ask this is because I've been sent an email before from NCsoft and it stated that my someone had attempted to log into my account. Also the word handle is misspelled. Thanks in advance.

I believe so, yes, If you look at some other sites, other people got them today as well.

NC and any other self respecting company will never ask for information like that ever. They know all the details about your account already.

I don't know enough about internet protocols but if it's a fake then someone's very close to the cookie jar.
This does not appear to be a valid email from PlayNC. Please remember that NCsoft will not ask you for your password in an email or anywhere other than logging into the PlayNC web site or a game.

sad thing is there are even people who will fall for this I think.

May I be frank here? Remember this thread? Old scam like this one (http://boards.lineage2.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=476352&page=&view=&sb=5&o =&fpart=1&vc=1)

May I make a suggestion here?
Put it up on the homepage, you know something along the line of a notification telling people in bright flashy letters the policy about passwords and user accounts. Maybe put it up there like every other 2,7 weeks or so I don't know.

Or...

Make this thread a sticky?

Just my 2 adena

PS we both know it is in the announcments of this board see this link people: Reminder about security (http://boards.lineage2.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=357349&page=1&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#357349)

Self promotion FTW :)
So what are you guys doing to get on these spam lists??
Having their email addresses visible and thus harvestable on this or other forums.

Mine has been visible here since I signed up.
Maybe you hang on the wrong boards SirE.

Unfortunately... it's enough if a handful of people clicks that link to make it worthwhile for the phisher. Quantity is everything... Quality is only of secondary interest (handel hmhm... ya).

Cal
I got an e-mail at work kinda like this. I knew it was a scammer then, as NCSoft has never been given my work e-mail.
Please see this thread for more information, and please contact the Support Team to discuss your accounts. Thank you!

OK i have tried to talk to the support Team and they only give the norm AUTO REPSOND emails that has to stop. Get more people to answer the emails please instead of giving out auto respones all time. The ingame GMs need to care a little more about whats going on or needs to be infromed to help out a little more.
As soon as it was going on I jumped on one of my other accounts and PM a ingame GM to get the guy kicked off the server so he doesnt steal my stuff and what did i get. PLEASE go the the support websit for help. OMG can u help me by keeping the guy off the server for like 2mins while i try to take care of it on my end please. OH and the Pention was ended and i couldnt respond back to the GM *thanks NCsoft i know i messed up for giving my account info to a mock up Manager account*. But please you need to help people out instead of telling them oh well u messed up. As soon as I got the email of my password being changed i sent an email right back no later than 30 seconds later saying it wasnt me NOOO STOP THEM. And here I am waiting for another auto email from NCSoft Support team. LOL i have already been passed onto 4 different NCsoft Support team members. HEY can I just get one please instead of 4. How many more do I have to go threw to get help here. I know IM SOL on my ingame idems *i could name them all of to u but hey you guys dont care*. I just want my accounts back now. I had 2 accounst under the same Account Manager and they have them both and instead of getting help and getting anwers in a timely manner Im getting auto replays all stating the same thing. Your screwed in there own little way.

So i have one question that hasnt been answered. As soon as I got the email stating that my Password had been changed and if it wasnt me to respond to the following Link *which I did*. Does the account get froozen until its been strigtened out?
Still waiting on Support team its been 2hrs.

Still waiting on Support team its been 2hrs.

2 hours is nothing. You're lucky that you're getting it back at all after following that phishing link.
What stood out to me (besides misspelling Handle) was this sentence:

"We are contacting you to remind you that on 3 April 2006 our Account Review Team identified some unusual activity in your account. "

Wouldn't they be contacting you to inform you or advise you of unusual activity????????????????????????????????????/
Well I got may accounts back event thow you guys are like aaaa you should have looked at what u were doing. It wasnt like I was in Game trading my stuff over to some one. I had never heard of anything like this going on and the site looks just like the account manger site. As soon as your log into your account they have your information. It was kinda like a keylogger type of thing.

So thanks players for being on my side you guys are great. :(
Oh and anyway the people at NCsoft are nicer in person anyway. They helped me out in about 5mins and i got my accounts back as far as the stuff on them well :( I have nothing left. I have a 64HE and a 57SE clean. Were as before the HE was getting ready to unseal the Aarmor and getting a SoulBow, oh well doesnt matter now. But NCsoft knows of the problem and they told me to call back and we will address that issue of the missing stuff.
If you're lvled toons to A-grade, you by now should know of the scam mails. Or do you live in total blockage of all news etc? Not reading any fan forums? Not belonging to a clan/ally?

All the information to avoiding scams is just a few clicks away so really, if you fall for it you're the one to be blamed for it.

/agree
weither it was stupidity or igginorance that let it happen to him im glad he got it back and i hope theay find out where your stuff is and ban the people who did it
Ok here we go. I had never HEARD of scams like that. When I talked with the people @ lineage about it they even they *unlike u normal bad mouthing players* said that there wasnt much different in the websites. There was only like one extra letter in the web address and how many of you look at the web address and have it memorized I didnt. The only scams that I know of are the in game scams. And I am telling you right now that not everyone know of these types of scames. Look at the topic of this forum "Did I" to me that looks like the person that started this didnt know. I am at fault for falling for it, I can not deined that. The only way I can get my stuff back and get to were I was. Is to take my HE brow some D or B grade armor and go train bots with full PP buffs and train bots until i get the stuff to sell to get my idems back. Which I have been thinking very hard about doing. On the other hand NCsoft has been working with those of us that have clicked on the link and acted like we were loging into are normal Master accounts.

If you fell for it good luck on getting your accounts back. It took me 6hours to get my accounts and it took me personaly calling them.

And I have had one of the accounts for 2years and the other for 1 year. I lvled them both personaly.

Well, lesson learned then. Be aware that these kinds of scams have been going on for quite some time in other areas as well; credit cards, bank information, paypal, etc. Hell, I get an email now and again trying to get my information for sites I don't belong to or credit cards I don't have.

Bottom line, never use the link provided in an email. Always browse to the site in question and log on from there.

Personally, I'm shocked you're getting your account back so quickly.
its all in the eula:

(g) Passwords. At the time your Account is opened, you must select a password. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and you are responsible for any harm resulting from your disclosure or allowing the disclosure of your password or from use by any person of your password to gain access to your Account and Account ID. At no time should you respond to an online request for a password. NC Interactive will never ask for your password offline or online, except that you will be required to enter your password as part of the log-on process.

On that yea me and a Friend of mine talked about that today. I had no idea that stuff was out there. Like my friend/Co-Worker told (and I will do this from now on). If I get an email about something like that. Close the email and go the their website. Like you all have said dont go threw the link in the Email.

LOL It sure wasnt happing threw Emails I couldnt understand what they were looking for and I sure didnt have one of the CD keys. I had to call them in person and talk with some one. Like I said NCsoft is so much nicer in person WAY NICER. All of those Automaded emails suck and it takes way to much time. LOL for all of you that are reading this CALL THEM. Thats what I should have done the min it started to happen. I could have gotten my accounts back in less than 15mins. Thats all it took when I started talking to them in person 15mins. If I would have waited on the emails probly wouldnt have my accounts back atm.
Great idea, call them from the other side of the planet. Nah, I'll just stick to avoiding all those suspicious links.
i dont get it, i read the post, saw the link,
plaync owns the https but not the http link ?

or does the link actually go somewhere OTHER than the typed out address?

( my outlook has clicking on links disabled for just this reason)
they didnt want you to see the link so you would fall into it.
