orc mystic equipment

Hello, currently i'm asking myself which equipment i should use to lvl up my orc shaman 20-40.
Should i pick the banana suit or heavy armor? duals blunt or fists? I'm looking for something which i can have no downtime with, because I have enough money to afford healing myself with healing pots all the time anyway.
I've leveled mine with brigadine and I have very little downtime. I can use spells and melee when I am low on mana.
But doesn't using robes increase your attack speed? When you use robes, you have an increased spell casting speed+mp amount+attack speed, with heavy armor you don't get none of the above, only an increased Pdef. So I'm guessing i'm going to use robes. Now there's only the matter of the weapon.
I found that the difference in how much I could take being hit while wearing the Brig, more than made up for the difference in casting speed.

But you seem like you've made up your mind.
Overenchanted duals would be my first choice of D grade weapons for an Orc Shaman, second would be a single handed blunt.

I dont' think you understand that some of your passive give you back the speed, etc in heavy and in Light for that matter.
I found both light and heavy to be excellent in my D class and allowed me to solo and level quickly.
The better the weapon, the less you will need to use your debuffs which in turn, allow for almost no down time.
Decided I'm gonna use brig anyways, because I'll last longer and the attack speed difference isn't really a concern since i have a buffer.
Now I'm still rather clueless on what weapon i should use :)
I think you can work well with whatever weapon, but if you are only going to be able to afford one (and not have a 'caster' weapon to switch to) decide between using a blunt for the stun (which you do have a skill in), fists or duals.

As with most casters, you don't get specific weapon masteries so it's going to be all what you like as far as accuracies, etc. Blunts are far more forgiving, they just don't crit as often. I used one on my orc but I didn't try duals, so I don't know how good they are. Zhanig has leveled fairly high and his advice is usually pretty good, so you might try the fists.
I lvled with fists from 1-20 and was fairly satisfied of the speed.
But now I'm thinking of using a staff of life (good patk AND matk) with a shield in combination.
Overenchanted duals are indeed a good idea, but I would be missing the shield bonus then.
I had a SOL+ brig on my shamy, later i traded SOl for a bonebraker and liked it more. True, I was draining for less, and dots landed a litle less often (without shots it was like 90% in late 30th).
I forget when the shield buff kicks in, but don't forget, at such a low level (D and below), equiping a shield will mess with your evasion big time and really won't help all that much. Once you get your shield buff to 2 or 3 and you get to be a higher level, they tend to cancel out the negetive effects of a shield.
Now, this is assuming you are grinding for level and not money so therfore you will be on white and yellow mops mostly.
Shield buff is past 40 and OL only.
Imxo, evasion is so close to 0 on shamys that even with my evasion buff (lvl 1 only at the moment) and no shield I evade once or tvice during a buffround. Most of the time I dont even bother to cast that one soloing. When I had blunt+shield I had a decent shield block rate thoe. Around may be 25-30% on mele white-green mobs and much more at archers.

I did 1-20 with Viper Fangs (Fist) and Bronze. Alternated DoT's and Drains between melee. I tried both Robes and Light armor (Devotion and Heavy Leather respectively.) and only the Heavy really made downtime less.

I did most of 20-40 with a Brigandine Set and Duals. I tried blunt + shield but the damaga wasn't as good. And you definately get more Crits than you do Shield blocks. (Stun is and was a big waste of MP for a Shaman...if your in a group it's a reasonable thing to throw if you got mp to burn though.)

I went Overlord post 40. Did most of 40-52 in Full Plate with a Flamberge w/Focus. Eventually got a Sword of Whispering Death (W/Empower) and a Demon Robes set. I eventually traded the SoWD for a Mace of the Underworld. I like the SoWD better simply due to the Crits again...but the Empower SA is underwhelming. Went to the MoTU for the Mana Up SA.

Post 52, I've managed to get a Heavy Avadon set, but I'm still using the Demon for my Robe needs. Working on a Hellknife (Almost there!) but the SA's are...weak for it. I'd go Sword of Valhalla if it wasn't so overpriced right now...maybe later I'll grab one if I can.

If I had the cash, I'd probably get some Duals for B grade instead/also...but thats for another day.

As for the Robes vs Heavy.

1) Cast speed isn't *that* much slower in Heavy. And lets face it...if you need the cast speed your already hip deep in it and could use the extra pdef of the heavy.

2) MP regen is about the same. (No noticable difference for me.)

3) All you really get is the MP bonus from the robes really.

And Truthfully, extra MP isn't all that useful compared to your MP regen. Which still sucks since you don't get any MP management skills. (Highest MEN my Green Bottom!)

See Orc Mystics kinda get shafted. Our INT sucks enough that we HAVE to use Shots to get our spells to land reliably, but we DO NOT get any extra damage out of it. (Personally, regular SPS seems to be enough, but no-one seems to make it much....) So any 'nuking' we do is always 'overtime'. (Drains use to much MP unless you got 2 or more recharger slaves....) Which just means that outside PVP cast speed is largely irrelevant.

So this means that the only reason you would really need the extra mp of robes would be for your buffs. (And some extra mp for the occasional heal/spell.)

If you want to 'nuke' your way your going to have to wait for it...our DoT spells simply are weak until late game. (Compared to a Nukers spells that is!) For Warcryers it's Early 50's I think that the DoT gets a big boost, for Overlords it's Late 50's. You can still do it before then, but your better off just doing melee if you want to level faster and have less downtime.

Throwing this all together...Having both is good. How much you party and where will determine which you should get first.

Party = Robes. For the most part your not getting hit on much and not taking aggro...the extra mp and cast speed is good. Except when your getting AOE type damage while assisting the melee. (I put the Heavy on occasionaly for groups that find themselves fighting those mobs. TOI and the cats come to mind with Pole type AOE attacks.)

Solo its Heavy. (If your gonna try the 'dot and sleep' route, then bring out the Robes.)

Still waiting for enough cash to try the Light armor + Bow in Groups....

AH HECK....Orc Mystics aren't great at anyone thing...just do which your most comfortable with...chances are you won't be 'bad' at it. ^_^
Just so you can see a different way to play the OL, I am currently at 55 working towards my 56 and new skills. I went with the Avadon Robe, Art of BattleAxe w/ Health and a [censored] blade w/ Acumen as my PvP / Toy. In this setting, I am the primary buffer in the group with all my buffs stacking with our Prof and our Magie. I also supplement with the Heart on healing when the magie's are low on mana or we get into something bad.
I have enough to also debuff and I am starting to see more and more of my seals land consistatly, with only A grade PvP being a pain in the backside.

The only real drawback in I grind solo in EV right now when no on is on and I need to just be careful of my mana, but for the most part, it is non-stop hunting unless I get hit with a bunch of social mops at the same time.
Zhanig, with that setup how well do your seals land without bsps?
I don't play without them so I don't know. From dicussions with other OLs, the general feeling is they don't start working on their own until the upper 50's. I have found that even my best seal, silence, has a hard time in witches on the spiders there and that is with Blessed shots.

I should have mentioned, I went with the speed tats too, +dex/-str +con/-str and the -men tat.
I have been very happy with this setup, even with a 170 average damage per hit with my axe when I solo.
