Hello there. New on Erica.

Hello to everyone on Erica (or at least to those who care to browse the forums ^^).
I'm new to the world of Lineage 2 as I've just made my account 2 days ago.
I've decided to start playing on Erica server (even with all the somewhat frightening perspectives of a pretty chaotic server >_<).
Even thou new to Lineage 2, I've read up all the info I can on it and decided on going with an Elven Fighter, with prospects of going Plainswalker or Silver Ranger somewhere in the future (very distant I think..).
I know that there are other better classes when it comes to pvp/pk and such but I am a peacefull player and I do not enjoy pk (an ocasional consensual pvp is fun and recommended thou :), preferably in the arena/colloseum (the drop items on death spooked me a bit... well... ok, a bit more O.o) ). So that you know when and if you encounter me :).
I'm not an hardcore gamer, and my job and other activities leave me little time to play but it does not mean i won't enjoy it thouroughly when i am online.
You might wonder why a peacefull player chose such a chaotic server (from what I've read on the posts in this area ><). Well, perhaps it is because life, be it virtual or not, is more enjoyable with some challange...
With hope that I haven't bored you to death , that's all :).

Please excuse any flaws in my english >_<.

P.S. Jute's posts were simply amazing to read, such joy (with inevitable moments of turmoil...) when playing the game made me read all the 33 (to date) pages of the post. Keep at it !
Welcome to Erica,

Don't mind the background nose, just dicussions on trying make Erica better.

All I can say is make a class that is most fun for u. I made an Elven Scout and really enjoyed the speed on him. Think Chuck would agree don't waste SP on Charm skill. Seems to be one of thous skills needs to be reevaluated. I tried the PlainsWalker on the the PTS as a subclass, pretty nice to do well with a bow and a dagger. Fake death took some getting used to thou, but im sure be profitible skill. Otherwise SilverRangers are awesome hit and run pvper class.

Yup overal forums very friendly to new players, so ask away.

Stay strong. :)
god i hate chuck he is such a jerk

anyone know jackup?

and know what i did to him bc ever time i log on erica he calls me names T.T
Welcome to Erica. :)

There are nice people around here too, probably even better than on other servers because the contrast is much sharper. :p Try to find a few people who share your ideas of playing, friends are everything in this game.

Be careful not to get scammed and watch your back... stay strong. ^^

Cal

PS: if you have any other gameplay questions, feel free to ask... people around here are usually willing to help. :)
Thanks for the welcome.
I'm looking forward to playing here.
You do not drop anything upon death in PvP.

If you are red, PvP rules don't apply then.
Meaning... if i am just standing there and someone attacks me and i attack back (or not) when i die i do not drop anything ?
But you can drop armor items when you get killed by a monster... no ?
And also if you're white and have over 5 Pk count you can drop armor items even in pvp ?
And if you are red (and over 5 pk ?) you can drop anything.. ?
Or do i have my facts wrong ? :o  (so may question marks :o).

When killed by a mob you can drop anything (armor, items in your inventory, etc) except your weapon.

When killed in PvP (you fight back) you cannot drop items

When PK'd (you didn't fight back) you cannot drop items

When you are red (you PK'd someone) but have 5 or less PK's, you cannot drop items

When you are red with 6 or more PK's, you can/will pop like a pinata, and can drop up to 5 (I think) items, including your weapon.

When you are white, your PK count doesn't matter. Neither does it in PvP (you are purple). Only when you are red it makes a difference.

Meaning... if i am just standing there and someone attacks me and i attack back (or not) when i die i do not drop anything ? Right, you do not drop anything
But you can drop armor items when you get killed by a monster... no ? Yes
And also if you're white and have over 5 Pk count you can drop armor items even in pvp ? No, you will not drop anything.
And if you are red (and over 5 pk ?) you can drop anything.. ? If you are Red and have 5+ PK's, you will drop like a Christmas tree, Including the possibility to Drop your Equipped WEAPON - which is the most expencive thing in the game.

Meh, Doc beat me to it :p
Welcome and thank you for such a wonderful compliment! I hope I meet you someday. :)

Oh..one thing I should have added to my post. I was PK'd several times at lower levels, but amlost as often I was trained. Training WILL cause you to drop items.
Thank you all for clarifying everything.
And now i realise i should've used search more ><.
That's one pretty extensive thread on pvp/pk/itemdropped info. Sorry. :o

Edit: Oh, but when training the monsters kill you, not a player, so it is as you all said in that case (it is a pseudo pk :().
Yup... the pvp rules in this game are very newbie-friendly, while pvp is still allowed everywhere and everytime.

The attacker can do as he likes... as long as he accepts there sometimes very severe consequences (like dropping 5 items which take you weeks to earn). The easy way to turn this system around, avoid all consequences and get an increased chance to steal items on top of it, is training mobs on the victim... can happen to you multiple times per day from different people when you hunt in the wrong places... or look at the wrong people funny.

There are some good ways to avoid trains... but none work 100%. First rule is to watch your back. All the time. At lower levels its enough to carry a haste pot to escape the mobs... if youre lucky and the attack doesn't stun you so you cannot run. ;) At higher levels there are BSOE which instantly get you back to the next safe zone... very expensive to use tho.

When you notice a train is coming at you... stop fighting the mob immediately! This will lower the chance that the mobs from the train aggro on you and you might have a better chance to escape.

There are many other threads about griefing tactics and counter-measures on these boards... maybe you find some helpful information there.

Good luck. :)

Cal
Thanks Caleria. I've already begun reading about griefing and other disgusting tactics certain pople do.
I wonder what kind of people train others for fun... ><.
Well, no matter, i will try my best to escape :p.
Going SR/PW (haven't decided yet :o) will certanly help :D.
I am going to be honest with you from the sounds of things I don't think Erica will be a good fit for you. Erica is mostly a PVP server divided between the ServerPolice allaince and those fighting them. There are neutrals here but they are often walked on and left out of everything. While I don't want to drive anyone away from Erica I would feel bad if I didn't give you an honest explaination. I would reccommend playing a couple toons for start on different servers so you can find out where you really want to be. Erica is great for competitive PVP type players however if you aren't one of these you will not enjoy it and it could ruin your L2 experience. And Erica has a low server population most casual players have been griefed off long ago so you are going to be playing alone till about lv 30 which makes MMO games really not worth playing. I suggest looking at another server with more people where you can go to starting towns and actually find people to hunt with. I was shocked the other day when I tried out a lowbie toon on Bartz and saw Talking Island swarming with players. But being from Erica I quickly pked a few of them for fun, was funny seeing lowbies asking me why I killed them I forgot what it was like to actually think people needed a reason to pk you.

But seriously Erica is Dog eat dog type play we will backstab, spy, steal, scam anyting we can to out do our enemies and from the sounds of it you are not that kind of a player so I think you should reconsider your server choice. Perhaps ask in the other server discussion areas what their servers are like.
Well, that was a fair warning righteousOne, but from what I had red so far I already knew of the massive evil (sensless pk/steal/whatnot..) activities on Erica.
And you are right, I do not enjoy the activities you mentioned at all, so I guess you and me are on different polarities on that one :P.

Que sera sera. Even so, I will stick with Erica.
I disagree with righteousOne about Erica being a PvP server. PvP is the last thing this server is about. This game is about pking, griefing, scamming, ganking and zerging.

Maybe once every 3-4 months you can see some real pvp action, but most of the time it'll just be a one-sided battle where everyone knows who the winner will be before it even begins.

If this sounds like the kind of server you'd like to play on, you're at the right place. I know I am ;) But if you're here for roleplaying or dueling and things like that, probably a more carebear server like lionna would be more fun on the long run.
Hello, welcome to Erica, I am glad to hear you are going to go here walking the good walk, instead of simply joining up with the first griefers that can offer you gear. :)

I am sure there are many good people (including Jute) who would be more than happy to play with you, its not all PvP and politics.

P.S. Jute's posts were simply amazing to read, such joy (with inevitable moments of turmoil...) when playing the game made me read all the 33 (to date) pages of the post. Keep at it !

Off topic a bit,

Wow Jute. Bored in making it to lvl 40, so figured I check out what quests I can do to help make things intresting. Compared the names of the quests by the adventures guild guy and then went to stratics. Very nice made out and Jute did a lot of the quest walk thrus.

Jute is truely a Jem among us Ericans. ^^
umm wow...thanks :)

I just like doing quests. I have the insane goal to do all the class change quests. Not that it will ever happen! :)

On topic... I have a really wide spectrum of character levels from my level 45 (almost 46!) Swordsinger to my below 20s with a ton of them in between and I'd be happy to play sometime.

Just be warned I seem to be a PK magnet. :)
Nice. I'm still on my way to lvl 20, I hope i'll change my prefix sometime soon ... i hope .
Thanks for all the replies, some almost made me think about quitting Erica, others made me glad i chose Erica, that's the way things go I guess.
It's so nice to see new toons with that idealistic spark in their eye! :-D

Now Gabs, here comes the harsh reality. RUN do not walk to the nearest restart game button, go to character screen, delete toon on erica. You will have 7 days to change your mind. Move to a different server. Trust me the people who have come out and said don't come here, are telling the truth. It's not worth it. Switch before you have wasted a lot of time here.

It's a gank server, nothing more. You will not be happy here.

$10 bucks she leaves Erica in 3 months time. Unless she is still under 20 at that time.
Now now, there are many 20+, 40+, even 60+ that are having fun on the server.

She ? I am a he :D.
Well, your post is very "encouraging"... well, I won't leave Erica, even thou I am not at all optimistic about having a safe journey in the lands of Aden here, however that does not mean I won't try... And going somewhereelse does not mean deleting the one here :P.
A gank server... most of the posts on this section indicate this way... and.. so... the expected reaction is... *runs away in horror*... RIGHT ! :)
I am not idealistic, I've had more then my fair share of jacka**es in games and IRL so I don't really overreact to cr*p :p... Whatever will be will be !
The En... Kidding :).
And right you are.
i've lv 42 now (sorcerer) and still having great fun in this game.
Keep in mind that this a game : the maingoal is to have fun, to be in a fairy-world far form rl-troubles and ***-holes.
If you're goal is to keep up with the very experience gamers. They play much longer and are much richer that you and i are. No way in hell you can catch them up. you'll be frustrated very soon and leave the game in no time, whatever server you chose.

Try to make good friends and be very and very carefull to chose a clan. Better to play with a few friend who are in a clan before you can make your mind in what clan fits you the best.
If you chose a clan too early and it's an dissapoinment = thats a greater danger to get enough of the game then the treath of being pk or pvp't .....
So make "fun" your main-goal in this game, try not to reach 60 to early and don"t chose your clan before you did your second change quest and you'll be alright and have fun for years !!!

Good luck.
And if you look for someone to party with from time to time, pm me. I'm a casual gamer tough

Quite a conclusive post there nosepick.

Good advise ^__^

Agree about the lvling slow to 60, cause thats when u start having to hunt in the grounds that are politically charged. Also the forums are full of informitive players, so if ur having an issue feel free to ask.
Well then GabrielK, all I can say is best of luck on Erica. Hope to see ya in Aden soon. :-D
Also about the clans. When you join one make sure up front that the clan leader know you are joining for a trial period to see if you like it there and if you leave that there will be no hard feelings. If you find the clan leader can't deal with this, it is the best policy to leave right away, because the clan leader might take offence and put you on the clans kill on site list out of mean-ness. It happened to me so just some advice.
Very good advice overall, there are many good clans that you can join at some point, but like said, there should be no rush to join one. Just enjoy the vast content and find a few likeminded to play with on and off...oh and don't be afraid to ask people.

And if you need any ingame advice, feel free to pm me here on the forum.
The grass filled plains were brilliant, the azure sky the brightest and strangest blue, brighter then one could imagine in any fantasy.

The air hummed with a magickal aural brilliance, as if there were chimes and bells ringing sweetly through the air and the scent of the grass was sweet as the wind rustled through the fur of the earth.

As the silver haired elven maiden sprinted across the field, she saw a bunny with the whitest purest coat and she went to pet the bunny, the brilliance so overwhelming, a fantasy too real to be real...

And as she scratched the white rabbit behind the ear, suddenly behind a lone tree in the field stepped out a man in black, with a huge weapon that looked half like a lance, and half like an actual sword.

Without warning and without this brilliant fantasy wavering in the slightest, a large blast of negative energy poured out of the weapon and the bunny was obliterated beyond even a bloody splat, leaving nothing where the white rabbit was lying in the field. The elven maiden asked why, but before she could even finish a single objection the man in black pointed this huge weapon at her and another large blast of negative energy hit her now, with full force. Lying in the field naked, the man in black takes her clothes and vanishes without a trace...

And Aden continued its course around the sun, and the eclipsed strange moon that hung in the sky continued its course around Aden, and nobody wept or felt remorse because this was just another day, because there are no Gods or Goddesses or wonders or miracles or anything spectacular in this world. Only death and decay and war. Happiness and phantasia have met the fate of many men that walked the face of Aden before.

Hope this sums it up, welcome to Lineage 2.

Yes my main is a dark elf.
Well written!

Ultimately the players can create their own stories in the harsh land of Aden, or in majority of the cases new nightmares.
Nice story, I like your writing...but I have found many a field with bunnies where I didn't get blasted into oblivion. ;)

Erica is about perseverance. What's fascinating to me is if you read the Background section here (http://www.lineage2.com/background/leading_role.html) you will note that Erica is a survivor and not exactly what she seems on the surface.

I think that is a very apt avatar for our server.
Nice indeed Vivex. Sad an beautifull at the same time.
Were you identifying yourself with the man in black ?
Anyway, nice, on a darker note.
My first character in L2 is on Erica. I'm very satisfied with
this server and recommend it. Currently I'm lvl 18 and not
one player has attacked me. Most are nice, some give me
buffs, one gave me a shield and gaiters free! Been on since
Feb. 18 so have a lot to learn, but so far so good.

Never! I'm a dedicated Shillien Elder!

By the way! Silver Rangers are great, you may get frustrated with Plainswalker. Silver Rangers are very independent, so even if you can't find the right people to play with you will always be able to take care of yourself ^_~.

Erica, the character, is interesting yes! I still don't understand why there are no healers or buffers that are important to the main story in Lineage 2 though... also seems like a human's world.

I fizzle and dissappear now, have fun all you new people ^^.
