Why is it that most nukers are male characters and most healer are female characters? Or is that only my perception?
It looks like 9/10 female dark elves are Shillen Elders, and 9/10 males are Spellhowlers.
Assuming we're talking about a male player (most are), who would you rather have helping you wash in the hospital? An attractive nurse, or a guy?
More seriously though, I guess it is all about preconceptions. Like the poster before me said, female=caring for others, male=smashing heads, that is what we are used to. Although I personally don't have any "problems" with female nukers/daggers/.. or human male bishops/prophets, I have to admit that both male elven elders or (especially) male SE look a bit "wimpy" IMHO.
It even seems to be that way in Korea. I read somewhere that elven elders were designed as a "girlfriend" class, or at least that is what it ended up to be. Many couples play L2 there, and it seems that it is not uncommon for the male to play some kind of DD, and the girlfriend plays a female EE.
The most dangerous being on earth is a betrayed woman.
Dangerous Kitten
You, no. However, I have seen plenty a lady upset, and me being smart, if I know I can't calm them down, I run in the opposite direction....QUICKLY!!!!!

Lol,
I guess I rule then as a male Shilien Elder ;)
But yes I think basically people may play healing/nursing/supporting toons in larger numbers in a female form... I will add that that is what I have noticed so far myself.
Learn how to quote...
Why is it that chefs are generally males and yet its the female that does all the cooking at home? GENERALLY.
You dont often get many female soldiers irl either, and the you also dont see many male nurses, its just the way it is.
All my toons are female, and 0 of em are support classes. Female Destroyer just kicks ***, especially once I get the majestic set and trade my kitty ears for some bunny ears >.>
And my WS... well lets just say that I didnt want to look at a grey bearded, red nosed fatty so I chose the loli look instead ^^ And social dance/social waiting emotions just plain rock. Panty shots anyone? :)
And then there's the SH... DE females just look better >.>
Hmm... the light elf(SR) decided to be a girl instead of a girly something(there are no male LEs...)
I'm a girl and my main is a Spellhowler ^_^ I get bored too quickly playing a healer/support class =/ and yes human male mystics have a tendency to lean toward skirts/dresses in their attire ;)
I used to have a guy in my clan who was firmly convinced that all mystic typed had to be female and all fighter types had to be male. I understand the healer/nuker thing, that is just preconceptions, but all casters?
I have a number of chars, all are female except AmberDrake. Female dwarf, two female DE mystics, female elven knight. Though thanks to the C4 changes I'd like to change Drake to female :/ Which is too bad because I really liked the original textures... anyway
The bishop thing seems even girlie from what I've seen. I know 5 female bishop chars (one is played by a guy) and 4 male bishops (me being played by a female of course ^ ^)
Who means IRL? Not the OP. He specifically said male and female characters.
I might agree that most healers are female characters, but not that most nukers are male characters. 90% of the Spellsingers I know are female characters. About half the Sorcs I know are female characters. But most of the SHs I know are male. Odd, isn't it? Also, I don't know of many male SEs, but I know of a lot of male EEs. Most Bishops I know of are female.
I wish Lineage II was like most MMOs. When Creating any character, you will always notice that Males have 1 point higher in Strengh atributes and Females always have 1 point higher in Intelligence or magic power attributes.
Subtly implying as we all have known all along, Men may be the brawn, but Women are the brains!
Some early RPGs used to. Think Final Fantasy X, who is the better magic user? Titus or Lulu?
Its not really a "can of worms" becuase nothing is stoping you from playing a character that is not your real life gender. Most of the time, in games I have seen this in, it was a tiny difference in genders anyway.
But what if I wanted to be a female who was brawny with that one extra STR?... maybe I've just been reading Richard Bartles Designing Virtual Worlds book too much...
I'm just saying, if you had to design a MMO you'd have to think about that too. And I couldn't stand more than 3 hours of FF10 :P played all the others though.

The first three hours of FFX are the worst three hours of FFX. XD
Once you get going and have the characters all gathered its a pretty solid rpg. The Yunalesca scene is one of the best offline rpg moments I've ever played through!
