SoL(staff of life) for the weapon, armor doesnt matter as long as it gives mp boost/cast speed imho. Those lvls are fairly fast and easy.
Personally I went with SoL+Devotion set(the NG one) spamming bsps D and one shotting mobs first outside Dion(the wolves, bugbears and eyes) then moved to Cruma swamps and continued one shotting mobs :) Good and fast exp, and you're making profit. Once I got BTM it was nonstop.

If yer feeling frugal, go for any of the x2 D weapons at 52 matk and throw on some Knowledge robes/gloves.
Why a lower D weapon? When you spend less than 100 adena per kill (one-shot) and get 200-300 adena per drop. (70%) of the time, you make a massive profit.
10x100 = 1000 adena spent for 10 mobs killed
250 average drop x7 out of 10(70%) kills = 1750adena made.
750 adena profit per 10 mobs killed.
If you use a SoL, thats 3x50 or 150adena per shot.
1500 adena spent per 10 mobs killed
250 adena profit for 10 mobs killed.
You think its gonna be hard to find a mob you can 1-hit with a 52 matk weapon especially while wearing knowledge?
Wanna be really saucy? overenchant a x2 D weapon...
These weapons cost 1.1mil to buy... SoL is 2.5-3mil or so...
You will have a right fine weapon for 2.5 mil even with moderate luck.
+3 SoL = 78Matk
+5 52Matk weapon = 66Matk
Sure a +3 SoL is nice... but I can one-shot plenty with my +5 Mystic Dagger and my lowbie cash experiment is making a tidy profit AND levelling quickly.
That and being mistaken for a dagger class(no one asks for buffs or anything else for that matter) is priceless.
Ok thank you very much and the devotion set will be ok right up till level 40 when I can change my next class and get new gear?
If you can eventually get a Knowledge set that would help with damage. Just remember to take off the gloves when you are resting. It's the top D grade robe so it might take you a while to get and the gloves are very expensive.
But if they think a Devotion will carry you to 40 then even better because you can just save for your C grade.
Devotion set worked for me just fine, and those lvls are pretty fast and easy even without top equipment so I saw no point in trying to buy overpriced top D armors ;) At 40, Demon set and OE homu with Acumen, happy blasting :P
I have lots of money to spend because of my prophet so thats not a problem I just want to make sure I get the best for my future SH including the best NG stuff till 20 then the best DG stuff I've already got a SOL so thats no problem so basically I'm looking at getting the devotion set to begin with then once I hit DG upgrae to the knowledge set and use that right up till level 40 with my SOL?
Aye, if you can afford it, the Knowledge set will be even better, but you can do it just fine with Devotion too. If you play say 8 hours a day, you'll be lvl 40 in a few days.
It's on and off I play sometimes about 6 -8 then others only get about 5 hours so I'm hoping I can hit level 40 at least in one week in I'm kucky depending on my schedule
I just wanted to add to this...that option is better than it looks:
78^.5 = 8.83
66^.5 = 8.12
...there's less than a 9% damage difference, before masteries (which are low pre-40, so it's probably a 7-8% difference).
Since you don't personally care much about the expense, though, you might as well have the extra couple percent in there.
