Greetings to all fellow L2 addicts out there. This is my first post on these boards, alltough I have been a L2 player since early C2.
What I'm looking for suggestions for is this: I have an alt Orc Fighter and I cannot, for the life of me, decide where to go next... Raider--->Destroyer or Monk--->Tyrant? I have never played an Orc (past lvl 22-23 that is) and Orc fighters seem to get rarer and rarer as Chronicles go by...
So I guess what I'm looking for from you guys (and girls) is a few insights and tips on the pros and cons of each class, as well as your own playing experience with or besides Orc of both types.
orc tyrant: HIGH dps, fast runspeed, selfbuffs worth every single sp spent. fist mastery 9see arthro nail for baddest fist weapon) specialises in light armor.
orc destroyer: masteries of multiple weapons, also high dps, and lots of hp. not many self buffs to speak of. best with 2handed weapons because the single blunt/sword mastery stacks on 2handed mastery. specializes in heavy armor.
Well, I know about the BASIC idea behind each of the two classes...
What I'd like to know is: How do they actually play out? Can they get parties? Are they worth the grind? Are they good in what they do? Were they fun for those that played or still playing them?
I enjoy the self buffs of my monk, but finding weapons from player shops can be an issue. As we are the only race that uses dual fists. And i'm more of a one on one type of fighter. I find that my weapon comes first then my armor
The raider is a master of all melee weapons so getting a sword, blunt, polearm from player shops isn't an issue at all. Because i'm a master of all melee weapons i'm more of a crowd fighter. I find my armor comes first then my weapon.
With my monk i have my fists thats all i need, but with my raider i can see i'm going to have to use a macro so i can use blunts, swords, polearms.
boith classes are in the Damage dealer category, meaning whover is in their group is counting on you to dish out the damage. your defece is not the best, so take care.
being a damage delaing class you must remeber: keep the healer away from damage, dont draw too much aggro on you if its at all possible, and know your limits.
tbh, your defence is teh suck. but your hp makes up for it a little bit.
Destroyer is a slow class, low dex, low run speed, low attack speed. But they make up for the slowness by being a class that can deal huge amounts of dmg and still take some too. Destroyer is the class that can reach the highest pattk in this game, with any weapon. Yes, Destroyer is better with a bow than a real archer when you compare 1 arrow. Yes, Destroyer will hit harder with a dagger than a true dagger ever even dreamed about. But those are only momentarily DPS spikes, altho with proper support they can be maintained almost nonstop.
Only problem with Destroyer is the slowness, which makes it vulnerable for kiting, but if you dont mind being a slow, hulking behemoth then it's not a problem. 1vs1 it will rip other melee classes apart when properly played and in sieges it will take a beating and still be looking for some more.
Destroyer is a high DPS melee DD that can tank fairly well, so parties aint a problem. It can also solo efficiently with SE buffs, or duo with a live one. Not to mention that you can play the "tank" role or be the DD in the group. You can also go for the polearm and do lots of AoE with Warlords/Dwarves or even with Nukers. It's really great exp when a Destroyer overhits all the already weakened mobs ;)
Tyrant on the other hand is a more mobile melee DD. With Rabbit totem, it is the fastest class in the game. With Fist Fury and (forgot the totem name) it can reach the highest attack speed in the game. Also, it can have the most HP in the game too, even more than a Destroyer, thanks to totems stacking with BTB.
It also has high DPS, but that comes with a cost. You will literally burn thru SS with a Tyrant, but if you got a good group, they will share some of the costs. And Tyrant is one of the best melee DDs, with the totems it's very versatile and can be used as a "Tank", puller or as a DD.
For pvp, Rabbit totem, ability to stun and high HP make it excellent anti-archer/nuker fighter. And it can fare pretty well against other melee classes too.
Both classes require skill, especially if you want to really own in pvp. They also are more costly than most toons, as a properly equipped Destroyer needs 4 weapons and a Tyrant is one of the most expensive classes to lvl. Both are extremely fun too :P and in general should have no trouble finding parties as long as you have other melees lfp too.
If you like raw power, go Destroyer. If you want quick movement and amazing attack speed, go Tyrant. Both are very versatile so you can really do alot with either one.
I went Raider on my alt because I want to use 2H swords and I am absolutely loving it. Great class, great damage output. Meh on moving speed, I think that both Destoyers and Human mages run about the same, maybe the Human mages even run a tad faster. Other than that, everything is great.
The few self buffs Destroyers have are awesome, especially the Frenzy and Guts.
At D grade, it's not really a problem carrying around a Bow, Blunt, 2Hander and a Pole. But at C+ grades, this will get uber expencive, cause you wanna stick to the same grade of weapons IF possible. Otherwise you'd need to carry around not only different grades of weapons, but also different grades of Soul Shots. I think though that most Destroyers past 40 use 3 weapons, unless they are very rich. NG grade Blunt, grade appropriate Bow and 2Hander.
One personal pet peeve I have is that I absolutely hate seeing Destroyers running around with grade appropriate Blunts/Shield combo. To me, that's just Stooooopid.
You're a **** Destroyer(s) use the huge 2 Handed swords!!! (and leave the blunts to the Dwarfs :p)

Great insight, but you lost me on one point... Why do you say that Destroyers shouldn't invest in an apropriate grade Blunt/Shield combo? Isn't it the best way to go for soloing (and it could also be viable for PVP as well... Stunning goes a long way...)
For soloing, the 2hander has much higher DPS and you wont block much with the shield anyway as you have low dex and no masteries. With SE buffs, I solo catacombs/necropoli, FG, WoA, Dev castle etc.
Shield+blunt is usefull in mass pvp/sieges when you have proper buffs. I personally use that to close the gap between friendly and enemy forces. Once you reach the enemy lines, a quick stun or two and then some dmg with the big sword ^^
You can always switch back to the blunt, stun and switch back to 2hander so you can stun and still deal great dmg.
Right, and as far as Stuns are concerned, a Grade appropriate blunt weapon has the same chance to Stun a person or a mob as the cheapest of the cheap NG blunts. :p
But lets say, that you could only have one type for weapon for any given grade you're in, be it Blunt/Shield or a 2Hander... Which would probaly be around my pocket size, as I am not a wealthy Orc :)
What would you say would be more worth it's money, and how would it play?
2 hander. Better for PVP, better for PVE. You can always use chrono darbuka for stunning since it doesnt matter what weapon you use as long as it is blunt type.
With 2hander, you deal more dmg per SS used so it's more cost efficient. Also, the criticals are _huge_ compared to criticals with other weapons and a sword has alot more crit rate than a blunt so you will be dealing more crits with it too.
Now, to the next part... Which armor to wear? Until C grade, there's no alternative... but come B and A grade... what would you think is the best (for a 2 Hander lets say - but plz include your thoughts for a Blunt/Sheld combo as well... I don't know why, but I kinda like the way Blunts and shield look on Destroyers :) )
For the DD path, B-grade: Blue Wolf heavy as it has +3str. -1 con and -2 dex doesnt matter much and the main goal is just to lvl fast so dealing more dmg is the way to go. I'd suggest +4STR -4CON and an optional +4DEX -4CON with this setup.
For a shield+blunt user I'd suggest Doom as it has shield bonuses and also higher pdef than avadon/zubei. It also gives a nice HP boost, which some Destroyers like more than dmg. You can go for +4STR -4CON with Doom set too, as the set bonuses pretty much are negated but you still get a small boost to pattk and to HP. Another approach is +4CON -4STR for the HP build, which is more meant for 1vs1 fights etc.
For A-grade, if you want to deal dmg you need to go either Tallum or Majestic. Some use NM and still go +STR, but that yields less pattk than Tallum/Maj does.
Tallum is good for adding STR and speed so your skills will recharge faster and it also boosts dmg nicely. It also provides good resistances against poison and bleed for both PVE and PVP.
Majestic gives a high dmg boost, and also provides you with a nice boost to stun resist so you can actually go for the +4STR +4DEX -8CON and still be hard as a rock. This is the "glass cannon" build of Destroyers, sacrificing survivability for the highest dmg output.
NM is the anti nuker armor with the sleep resist bonus and thus favored by many in these times when nukers are everywhere. Lower dmg output than Tallum or Majestic, but better survivability. It can be used for both STR builds and CON builds. Also the set to get if you're gonna use a shield too.
Dark Crystal Heavy
Heal +4%, Paralysis Resistance +50%, STR -2, CON +2, With a Dark Crystal Shield, shield defense rate +18%
Paralysis is a minor threat, only Necros using anchor and SK hoping for a LS to land can cause it so the resistance bonus isnt really worth it. And a really rare Warlock with his cubics.. and mobs that para... well it can be purified. Secondly, DC is low A so it doesnt have much better pdef than doom does. Thus, enchanted Doom heavy is better as it has better bonuses. 320Hp > 4% boost to heal. It's the worst set for a melee DD in A-grade.
