Making a living in L2

With the ending of the letter event we came from i broke the one million mark which was cool. Now i figured i'd use that to jump start my money making.

Loading up my dwarf with 400,000 in soul and spirt ore i'm heading to giran. I figured i'd use the gatekeeper quest to give me free port to the mainland, and the other newbie town quests to pay for my port back home.

Now i have to foot it from Gludin to Giran town which is a pain the royal behind may i say.....I got a long way to go when i see others selling millions of adena worth of ore. :(

How are the rest of you making a living in the game? What did you start from to where you are now?
buying and selling. Buying crystals low from OE'ers and then reselling at normal market prices worked nicely for me for awhile.
Manor manor manor, its a rich mans sport!

I heard they broke the manor interface with C4 so you cant possibly hand in as fast as the bots, even worse than C3 though, so I dont know if thats viable now.

Spam shots which spoiling mobs is always good for making cash! :D

for awhile

I take it's no longer like that... What do you do know?
selling heart of paagrio amulets c1 thru c3 :)

I just sold a strider :D
But now i wanna make another one and keep it :p
living in this game..... not possible on seighartd without someone scamming the crap outa someone.... and frankly i won't do that....

or stealing.....

my point is, by no moral means.....
you gotta find a niche, thats all. Find out whats in demand, find out where the mats and recipe spoil and grind like mad. For the most part I have counted on lucky drops and partying with BHs to gain adena. Then again I'm not the best at making adena, I'm actually quite ill-equipped for my lvl :( but I get by.
yeah the big money isnt made in morality.

I make a very very modest amounts of money. Enough to keep going out and exping. With C4 fishing has been a good source of income. Sell your proofs, sell your gems, or if your high enough craft some of the new items.

Aside from that most my money comes from quests. And crafting items from drops I get along the way.

If I had the patience for it I'd "play the market" more. "playing the market" is two things. A great way to make money, and probably the #1 excuse used by ebayers to explain how they are so stinking rich. ; )

I find you always have to have money on your mind. You have to think what is most adena efficient, what area you can hunt in that has the most overlapping quests, and the best mob drops.
me, i saved up a couple mil in C2 and bough SOP, then i sold them for 1k more than i bought them. Did several hundered per night for about a month. As the market has adjusted i've changed what i sell but it's still the same basic idea. Buy something folks need at a low price sell it for a higher one. I try to be the lowest seller in town so i make low margins but now i have good volume.
There is a lot of adena to be had in selling or crafting items that partying with BH provides. I made like 50-60 mil just from crafting S grade jewels and selling them, I had horded all the mats already from partying with BH and just got mats from spoils by BH in a hunting spot (they spoil like MAD in a certain spot) and I got the recipes by doing the delivery quests solo when I couldn't find groups. The only adena I really spent was on buying some more SoP and S crystals and S gems and all but 4 or 5 crafts succeeded. However there is no adena to be made easily by selling S grade jewels right now, at least not on my server, but it was great while it lasted and I made bank off of it in my spare time when i couldn't find groups and by XPing with BH/FS.

also buy bone, sueded thread stuff like that that is needed for the weding quest and other crafts by semi low sell at market price thats how I made profit also manor si s a good thing :)
I've been crafting B-grade weapons mainly, BOP, SOES, Great Sword are the ones I mostly make altho now I've found a nice niche to exploit :) Not many buyers for the mats and recipes and the profit when finished is pretty nice ^^ I also deal with AA, buy greens at 6a a piece and then sell AA for 2a a piece, or use em for consumables etc and sell those. When I hit the 200mil mark for my adena that I use for making adena(money maker toon has money that I use only to make more money, main has money to sustain itself), I will switch almost exclusively to A-grade crafts, as then I can massproduce weaponry and failing a few ones wont hurt when you look at the big picture.

Also, you must remember that the more money you have to invest, the more you will earn.
Well i sold all 400,000 adena of ore and made a profit of 12,000  which i'll reinvest in more ore. Some how i thought i'd make more profit then that :)

Now i got to work on my customer base.
made money by overenchanting weapons that are popular. C duals were pretty popular in C3. homu, ++dama, etc. if i broke the weapon, i just made shots out of it and was fine. maybe 1/4 weapon broke.

if u want to do smart crafting, set up a ssa or ssb making dwarf in goddard. set up another dwarf in giran (or gludin. wherever u want to get ur ores from). not too many ppl sell shots in goddard. usually its overpriced to like.. 87 or somethign per ssa. i made 40mil in a week selling ssa in goddard.

Increase your markup, buddy! :D
I'm running 5 undermarket price thou.... :)
When you say ore what kind are you talking about? The rarer base mats lik enria and ori ore aren't that profitable, either go rare like the guy who talked abou making S jewels or go common like bones or CBP.
I'm talking about soul and spirt ore....

I did some walking around and found very few stores. So i buy my ore in the dwarf town and head to Giran to sell it. I figure i have a two part market...

The crafters that are selling shot's and the people that make their shots from the private manufacturing shops.

I figure i'd get alot of dwarf customers that would be willing to buy from me instead of having to port to dwarf town all the time.

more of a niche market, would ruin business to say what/how.
But I also OE for fun sometimes.
That's the problem, Awesome keeps the taxes low so you have a ridiculously low magin. See the key is to be a low price but to make a decent living.

Spirit and soul ore are not a good investment, you're making what 5 adena on a 300 adena sale? that's ridiculous. the minimum margin for any sale i do is 10%. No wonder you can't make any money, just because something's cheaper from you doesn't mean it's worth the time for somebody to find yoru shop.
The price for say soul ore is 287 and the shop price is 300 so i'm selling for 295 it's only a 8 adena profit. I am making more of a profit on spirt ore thou.... About 15 each.

I know it's not the best investment, but i have to start from someplace.
Well, for me, in c2, right after becoming a summoner i spend a few weeks relentlessly training bots. Made about 10mil or so. Got some drake, and put the rest towards crafting. Then, just as C3 released, I noticed that there was a bit of a price gap between emi bows and sls's, and on top of emi bows being cheaper, it was even cheaper to craft the emi bow. So, i'd craft an emi bow for 6-7mil, swap it for a sls, and sell for 11-12mil. Made some good money until others caught on with mammon and prices evened out

Somehow, i had wasted most of that money by the time i hit B grade, but never the less i came across another way to make money. First, i'd get dark screamers from the lux shop, transfer to homu sword, then sell for 1-2mil profit. Once I got about 14-15 mil, I got two dark screamers, swapped for sword of nightmares, then dualed 'em for around the same amount i had. I then sold for 18-20ish mil. Managed to do it a few times before demand kinda ran out but it was enough to craft a heavy war axe w/ health, buy my bw light, helm, boots, and craft the gloves (they were 5-6mil at the time).

And here i am now, schemeless, and 2.5 levels away from A grade.

With the ending of the letter event we came from i broke the one million mark which was cool. Now i figured i'd use that to jump start my money making.

Level 0-25 i played normally, had pretty crappy kit, grinded on langk lizardmen, this was back in c1, when they dropped nice, also i didnt use soul shots (i didnt even know what they were) At level 25 i got the taste for PvP, i attacked and killed another warrior and he dropped his dual bastard*elven, i took them and sold em for 1.8mill and brought myself lesser duals and brig armour.
From then on it was plain sailing untill level 40, when i hit C grade i cried cos i couldnt afford crap all. Was using D grade untill level 52, then i left L2 for like 6 months, came back and played an alt up to level 40, then i got bored of it, sold it up and combined all my money and brought B grade. Since then ive got lucky drops whilst out solo and got myself a nice ring during L2day event, and now the rest of A grade is mine.
I like taraza's post ... party in a BH/FS.... ohh wait thats me ^^

Yeah basically I just craft with the mats/recipes I spoil. I also craft my bss.

What are these delivery quests you speak of?
with all ur playtime u should have been 75+ with top gear and many millions... if u had got out of elmore :p

and a tip is to always carry alot of money and go around in towns after server restarts... u might find stuff wich is miss priced..
like a weapon that should be 16 mill is now 6 mill.. or 1,6 mill because they forgot to add a "0"

Hah?

if u had got out of elmore

Was that at me?...

Well i am getting out of elmore now...It may have took me over a year and an half to do so. But i'm doing it :)

Anyways, i like elmore

yes, ofc, who else? :p
nobody intends to be mean splatter but honestly you're asking questions you should have learned the answers to year ago. Low margins don't pay off. Try seal stones, great margin and they're always in need.

LOL I know :p

I told yah i was a casual player :D

I'll look into that whole seal stones thing it sounds interesting.
Dude 4-5 hours a week has gotten me into the 60's. it will really help if you level up. higher levels tend to have more disposable income with which to play the market.

PM me in game some weekend and i'll give you a start on the sealstones. they're also ridiculously easy to hunt for even at your level.
Who said i play 4-5 hours a week...

u should atleast play twice the time u use at forums :p
its not high levels that play the market, but those with more money can play the market better.

Mostly those of higher lvls have more money to play with market... Mobs drop more, they were saved more, had more chances to get that lucky drop, and more expencive drop then some one in lets say 20th.

its not high levels that play the market, but those with more money can play the market better.

u start with low money and work ur way up..
In a post a few weeks ago you said you average a couple hours per week.
Holy cow splatter, that's a... terrible... business plan. That's slightly under 3% margin. You need to sell 100s of thousands for that to pay off.

At that slim a profit, you'd be better off starting a "mule" and buying all the 11a DSS in Dion and reselling for 12a (a 9% margin). It's a really crappy thing to do, but dang man, you said you have 1 mil adena. Make it work for you!

Another idea is if you have a crafter, set him up as a 20a per click lvl 1/2 mat shop. In Giran, you'd probably bring in around 15-20K a night (you can stay connected 24/7 can't you?). That's not a lot either, but night after night? In the 1.5 years you say you've been playing, that'd be up to 10.9 million earned. Not bad for a selling technique that requires *no* attention.

In a post a few weeks ago you said you average a couple hours per week.

Yeah, two hours a week. Thats a couple. :D
Do you keep your client logged longer than those 2 hours? AFK selling? If you do, you might wanna try this: Buy Green Sealstones for 6a each, turn them in and sell the AA for 2a each. 1AA will cost you 1.2a this way so you're making 0.8a profit per 1AA. With 1mil invested into AA you make 666k profit already, and you can do the buying/selling totally AFK. And it's totally foolproof as AA is always needed and always sold on the market.
Well on lionna AA is going for 1 adena. Anyways how can a person make a profit on 0.8 of something? I mean it's not even a whole adena :)
It's the final amount you're looking at. The .8 is just what you make per sale. :p You'd be surprised what it would add up to considering AA sells rather quickly.

Where? I WANT SOME!

Yeah, but....

If i bought it for .5 andena and then sold it for 1.2 adena, i would make a profit of 1 whole adena. But you cann't buy something for half an adena. LoL
Lol I understand that, but ook at the math conversion for it. Technically you're not buying or selling for .x , it's just how it works out. However when you're selling the profit is going to add up quickly.

IE: .8 profit is Sell 100 X .8 = 80
An $80 profit is pretty good for something you got for free don't you think? (Talking seal stones here)
I understand that....

I'm buying my spirt ore for 460 adena and selling it for 479 with a street price of 480 so i'm making a profit of 19 adena. And if you want to talk about dealing with selling something for 1.2K adena i can also see that.

But in this game you cann't buy or sell anything for .8 "The right side of the decimal".

As a female orc you know how stubborn us males can me. ;)
Yes, I do know how stubborn you male orcs can be. :p

Anyway, sell as many items as you can for the fastest and greatest profit. We all know the more money you have = the more money you can make. Keep in mind though seal stones and AA are a quick way to make a buck here. (I'm hoarding mine atm to be able to unseal A grade if need be)
Ancient adena sells for 2 on lionna, just to check for you i sold 500k AA last night at 2 each. It was sold in under 3 hours. You see splatter teh important part is % profit not the actual number. If i buy AA at 1.2 and then sell for 2 then i'm making 67% profit. Yeah i make .8 adena per item but if i spend 1 mil i end up with 1.67 mil. if you invest 1 mil you end up with roughly 1.03 mil. Not even enough to finance me for an hour of hunting.

You don't have to be right to start making money, buy green SS for 6 each, then change them into AA and sell it for two overnight. You're below 40 so you don't even have to worry about cost for signing up for dawn. Hell if you PM me in game i'll get you some dawn passes for free, those have a good markup or they'll save you 50 k when you eventually hit 40.
Your orig ? was 'how do u earn a living?'

My dwarf got a couple low drops from raids (lucky to be invited) when in the 20's. Those either funded really cheap dss or were sold for a few k.
I hunted lots but didn't earn much.
I got one lucky drop (a full bastard sword).
I tried farming but it gave me a few dozen thons i haven't sold.
Mostly i play the market but only when real advantage comes along. A money hungry elf wants to sell a 318k weapon for 150k....i buy and resell for 250k.
Eventually i bought an elven sword to create d-duals 107's(elven/bastard), used an ewd i got as a drop to enchant it, (it cost 7,600a plus 117 d-crystals which i had in wh).
I just sold that in dion for 2.25 mill (the reg elven sword cost me 1.160mil in giran--had the bastard sword from drop).
Slowly i turned a few hundred k--into 1.3 million--into 2.3 million.
That's where i am now after 3.5 months of pt play.
Lvl 32 knight does junior tanking for raids and funnels drops to dwarf (to be honest, my non-clan group has taken about 20 bosses in 5 days--that helps a lot). Lvl 42 ws crafts a bit and sells overnight.

I'm not rich after 3.5 months but have top d-gear and 2.3 or 2.4 mil in wh with highest level toon at 42.
Other than market luck/finds/shopping in alternate towns (there are no bargains for the poor in giran)....i don't know how anyone can earn much adenda.

There's a niche market in reselling ead's this week...u can buy them in gludin and sometimes gludio for as little as 40k...resell in dion overnight for 80k pretty reliably.

After all is said and done...i'm at same point as you now. Wondering quickest and most efficient way to turn 2.3 mil into 3.3 mil :)
Well C1 i crafted Atuba maces sold them for alot... then later on i crafted Demon staffs sold for 15mil each (cost 9mil to craft)....

got to find what ppl want recently i made 60mil in 1 day i brought alot of avadon boot recs and parts and crafted and sold for 6mil each
