Pros & Cons of a Bounty Hunter

General Discussion Started Last reply 52 posts
Can someone give me the pros and cons of a bounty hunter? I'm considering making one, and I'd like to know a little more about it then what the L2 Website says.

Thanks ^^;
Pro: Dwarf racial abilities, bag weight etc etc. Can sweep for extra loot.
Con: Rubbish at PvP.
And we're cute.

High hp, can carry a LOT, and you can spoil/sweep for all kinds of stuff. EAA, EWA, A weapon parts, all kinds of good stuff.

no good at pvp though.
Okay not into PVP much, so thats alright, but are they of any use to clans for castle seige reasons, etc? Are they good / okay for PVE?
castle sieges = pvp. BH = bad at pvp. you work it out.
They arnt strong as a melee class, but they have the HP to make up for it, for PvE they got polearm skills, any class with pole arm skills is good at PvE.
Also kitty, how can you say dwarfs are cute :/ Fat old men and freakish red head children.
Didnt realize that was considered PVP, okay thank you. ^^;
Im probably being to harsh, they do have uses in PvP, just not many. There is also always another class which can do the job better.
How about the Warsmith's, they're good for PVP perhaps, especially since they have the little robot things? (Im basically just returning to L2 after like 4 Chronicals, lol)
Warsmiths are the oppersite, alot better at PvP, especially sieges but are not requires in PvE, because they are nothing special.
Sucks, because I think they're so cute. :( Oh well, maybe I'll just stick to a warsmith, and hunt with my clan. Shes pretty much for fun and RP. Because, Im into that kinda thing. Lol.

But if Warsmiths can be considered better then BH, Im all for it.
As I always say, LEGIT Clans love BOTH flavor of dwarf. Cheap crafting from clanned WS, Extra cash flow from BHs. You run into problems when you join a clan that isnt legit, and doesnt care to earn things on thier own.

The Bounty Hunter also has the added point of having fake death. We got into a war last night on ToI 6, and Having fake death(and a Strider) kept my party mates free to rezz, fight and do what we had to do without worrying too much about all the mobs(I was making regular runs through the rooms to clear out mobs so we could rezz anyone who died during this debacle).
Okay BH's is quite good PvE if built correctly you can get quite good damage and killing speed more or less. And don't forget spoil who almost all legit player wuld kill for, specialy in some areas as thers so good spoils :)

But yeah BH's lack a lot in PvP, Small scale PvP bh's is completly useless but sieges it's a bit oposit, we aint completly useless but I can't say we are that greate either there, but we have some adventages, we mainly aint geting targeted and therby have an adventage to reach flags example or life crystals, sure we aint able to hit them for a lot when we reach them but we sure do help some. Plus we are quite good at soaking up melee damage.

But be aware so fast a nuker comes into the range, an even lv nuker drops you in 5-6 nukes or so, thoght they drop any melee in that amonth of nukes and you don't have a chans, nor even scratch the nuker befor your dead. But this problem aply to ALL melee classes.

@CantoScav Can we fakedeath while riding the strider??? That wuld be cool ^^

But if Warsmiths can be considered better then BH, Im all for it.

They are just different. The main difference is that BH makes money while hunting (as of C3 it's shared with all the party, but it's still better then nothing), while WS loses money when hunting and has to make up for it in cities.
And of cource, both make much more money at higher lvls. I seen BH's in A grade spoil range saing that each person in thir party leaves with a few mil worth of spoils after a hunt in some of new areas. Dont know how much WS's at those levels make tho.
Well all of those are very good things to know. I wish I had a WS's opinion, or the opinion of a person who plays both and what they think is more fun. o.O;

A lot of people have dwarves as secondary characters for money reasons, but I'd like to try and make it my main if its fun enough to play.

I already have a 28/29 PK that I'll continue with if I dont like the dwarf as much as Im hoping I will. :P
I cannot believe, that within a dozen answers noone mentioned our main PRO:

Dwarf DANCE !!!

Dancing Kitten
Idiotic kitten, you mean?

Your MAIN pro isn't something so laughable as the dance emote.

I mean - /socialwaiting just owns, ya?

PS: BHs had it tough in C3 but it's apparently looking up a bit in C4. They profit from the inflated prices a bit more than all other clever players. It's definitely a class I'd be interested in playing if it weren't for summoners. ;)
Sorry to burst your bubble there, Maline, but the main income with my BH since C4 is from fishing.

Yes, if I were lvl 70+, then I would make a fortune with spoiling, but at lvl 59 I really cannot stand to spoil another 1 thread or one charcoal from a mob, that is white to me.

With fishing I can make about 1-2 Million per hour.

Idiotic Kitten :( *sniffs*
Having played both a WS and a BH, I can say both are very fun to play. When I decided to really work on the WS, being able to craft BSS at 49 made a great difference in making massive amounts of money and being able to support all my other characters. Sure the levelling is kind of boring. Just make sure you find a friendly SE who is interested in PL'ing.

BH on the other hand will make you addicted to the glowing blue mobs and and all the loot you are getting. I have fun with both.

As for PvP, use your carrying capacity to have ohh say 500 GCP and GHP. Lets see another melee taking you down then. It might be good to carry a BOP, just somethng to use when you get rooted. :-D

Playing a dwarf is really a different aspect to the game, you are leaning more toward commerce and making money the legit way.
If your clan already has a warsmith, then you won't be of terrible use.

A bounty hunter is alot more useful for getting parts, mats and recipes.

If your clan already has a warsmith, then you won't be of terrible use.

multiple warsmith per clan/ally are only useful when it come to the limited space in the recipe book ;)
Ya you definately get addicted to that blue glow... :)

The hardest part that requires the most skill while playing a BH is to convince your party that it is good to sacrfice 500xp per mob for proper spoils! >_<

Me: "Hey ya woot these mobs give 14 animal bones each every time and no farmers here! We're friggin rich!" Party leader: "Hey lets go to the room over there, better xp..." Me: " :o   "

Besides that... what the others said. Maybe we will get some love too when melee and ranged should ever get a balanced. And with the 2-handed blunts to come one day we might actually be able to make a DD build... or DD-ish.

Cal
My buddy loves his BH. They really shine in small parties. We duo alot. I save him from downing 100s of heal pots, and he makes us money.
Yes, though you can increase the recipe book considerably. And yes, of course multiple levels of warsmiths/artisans are useful.

But as a main character, its something you definetly need to consider, because if you get conflicting crafting needs, playing a warsmith as a main can be alot less fun.
Pros:
Potentially can make alot of adena if allowed.
76+ spoil/spoil festival can be enchanted to become a DOT.
76+ Blunt masteries can be enchanted to increase crit power.
76+ Get different stances to increase pdef/mdef and reflect dmg and debuffs.

Cons:
Low run speed
Low dmg output due to not having any spike skills.
Only a couple of active skills pre Fortune Seeker.
Share Spoil
difference between a high lvl BH and a high lvl ws is the BH makes adena while hunting and the WS loses millions

BH can get parties alot easier...
but they need to, dwarf damage output is pathetic and with no real skills to back it up downtime is plentiful

WS can go 40 lvls without a single partiy outside of clan
but we have more solo potential, the mechanic golem (and once upon a time big boom) made us hold our own in pve
if you dont use the golem efficiently you will lose millions a day so expect to spend many hours crafting for no xp to earn back the lost money

throw a pole on any dwarf and you gain fairly decent xp and adena, you wont be as leet as the other pole classes but when theres aoe that just needs another pole to swing you fit in nicely

at higher lvls though pole groups are about as rare as EEs
so as a WS expect to spend plenty of time soloing and as a BH expect to spend plenty of time tradeing your spoils for healing or DDing
I have both BH & WS.
many good posts with helpful advice for you. I just tell people that if u are to make any dwarf account, make sure u have clan or friends to party with...or a second account to buffer/healer with - after lvl 60 it gets hard to kill mobs without them.

i joke that i could have made 3 other classes lvl 75+ in the time it took me to get one bounty hunter there!
Pros:
When you finish BH and sub HE, he will be still last target in sieges becouse still look like dorf with bow :)

Cons:
If you wan be rich you need to duo not party (sharing spoils).
If you duo your XP gain will be terrible.
My 76 BH gain around 800k-1mln XP per hour soloing.
My 52 HE (sub) gain 1.2mln+ XP per hour.

If you prefer playing in party this dont matter - same XP for all.
But if you like solo or duo with healer - leveling will be 2-3 slower than DD char.

o.O If i duo with SE (i'm 66 atm) I can get 3-4 times more XP than than with nice party... Just find proper mobs and use you pole ;)
The problem is that playing duo - is boring somehow T.T
Me duoing with an SE or Trioing with an SE + my friends Prophet I cna get far more xp per hour at 64 then ANY big group in any cata so I'm not sure what your problem is either ^^.
My BH is at lvl61.
Can anyone give me an idea how many hours I would need per level to level up? And what is the fastest way to level?

Btw. I have an Elysian right now as weapon.
I don't get how people get to such a high level without figuring out how to best hunt first... oh well.

Polearm, duo with a SE or better yet WC.

lvls at 61+ are measured in days not hours
best way to lvl would be to sell the elysian and buy a pole
that is if there are any 60+ pole groups on your server

if you plan to solo and focus on pve i would suggest tradeing the elysian for a +ed up meteor shower
Well I made it to lvl61, playing casually, sometimes semi-hardcore, especially during events :)
But then again, my dwarf is as old as Teon is.

I dont know of many poleparties on my server. And in a normal party, using a pole ****** people off, because it wakes the sleeping mobs.

Big disadvantage of hunting with a pole as BH is that u will have a hard time spoiling. And I went for blunt because I wanted to kill single mobs, to level soul crystals on, still my main source of income.

I had a lance for a while, and duo with an SE is ++XP , but bad spoils, so at the end i didnt even spoil anymore. But then I felt like a WS who cant craft lol
A lot of really helpful posts here! ^^; Glad to see people know their stuff.

So back onto the subject of weapons...

Someone from my old clan used Duals as a BH, but a lot of people here say Polearm, can anyone tell me what they think of weapons for a BH?
A polearm is good for experience. Especially if you're trioing with SE & warsmith that can help with spoiling all the mobs.

Duals are good single-target. Some people prefer blunt for stun and additional PAtk, that much is up to taste. Basically, the least likely you are to have buffs, the better the blunt - and the more likely, the better the duals.

o.O If i duo with SE (i'm 66 atm) I can get 3-4 times more XP than than with nice party... Just find proper mobs and use you pole ;)

Depend level.
I was very happy with polearm <70 but now is almost unsless.
Keeping them only becouse sometimes I need to pass dungeon rooms with deep blue mobs and is faster kill them witj polearm.

Pole have one general problem after 70.

1. When you fight with party 1/2 HP mobs you OOM quick and is hard to get something valuable becouse low spoil/drop rate.

2. At 76 I can finish 2x HP yellow mob with meteor(focus) almost with no heals (VR).
But when I use pole and pull 3 of them - my healer is half mana after just 1 pull.

Pole at 70+ is just too slow, low accu and cirical.
Maybe is you have pole with SA haste, heavy tallum and VR4 this will work better but for me is almost unsless now.
"Your healer" - are you boxing something? If yes, what level is it?
I would also add to OP that a BH is very profitable if you hook up with a decent working manor system. You can make incredible money there.

When i lvl him, then i go to ct with polearm n lvl like crazy. Then solo i use blunt/sheild n spoil like crazy then seed. Its very profitable. And the trick in seeding is trying to find a good mob range that might have 2x + hp these will give u more fruits in return. And with the spoil, u can get a bit more mats.. so its not to bad.....

Hope this hlps...

Cheers!!
Speaking of weapons again.
Do SAs add up with buffs?
Say if u have meteor+focus and focus buff, u have "double" focus or not?
If so, I should really sell my elysian and find a meteor
Your level 61 and you dont know that? WTF?
Of course they stack.
They add, but don't multiply.

Seriously, level 61 BH that can't decide how to level nor knows SA effects? Sheesh. D:

"Your healer" - are you boxing something? If yes, what level is it?

Yah - im greedy and when share spoil option was active i bought second account and made SE.
He is now 69 lev.

I was 60 when I start leveling him. At 35 I start 2boxing but in party.
At 68 I almost stop leveling him (still 2 boxing but out of party).
Now almost not 2boxing (solo XP sux even with healer) but use them as mana battery for my party if we leveling in 1-2 rooms and cats or toi.
Is hard, even for BH, get party now becouse alot of ppls are rich already and dont care for more loot. But if you are "mana rechargable BH" => no problem ^^.
And becouse he is not in party and stay in safe place I can strip him and get cash for his gear :)
Well I supposed they stacked, but wasnt sure, or maybe there was a cap on the level of the SA+skill thats why I asked

The reason I didnt know is because I only leveled with a AOBA without SA, and later with a lance with critical stun. And I was never buffed with a "stun buff" :)
Yeh right...you must have been solo, never clanned, and never spoke to anyone either. I knew this stuff at level 20.
Best PvE weapon is Duals with crit SA, or 2 handed sword with crit sa, thats the absolut best weapon setup for an BH for dealing damage, specialy in an party with prophet + BD you can deal up as much as 50% more damage then with an blunt at same P.atk.

At 70+ or so your beter off with Meteor shower with focus SA as it finaly surpase the duals, as thers still 40-50% crit difference between em so it takes a while.

For PVP well then you truly want an bow and an blunt if your attacking melee target as you want to stun them, why do you want a bow? becose how range orientated this PvP have become due all unbalanced classes you truly need to do the same to be abel to hit em a few times befor your drop, or you won't even reach em.

To answer ur hidden flame with your own words :
"Disclaimer: Anything i say is my opinion, and should not be taken as fact."
Never try to outsmart a dwarf :p
Even though SPS is probably going to flame me for this or something, can someone explain what this: crit SA thing is? Im curious. And if you're going to flame me, you should know that I only have low level characters, and havent been around since Beta.

SA it's special abilities you put into wearpons (C grade and up). Focus SA adds a fixed amount of critical chance to your's char. With all those critical chance and critical power buffs+song+dances the crit SA (and wearpon with high chitical chance) add up for lots of damage.
Noire, nobody will flame a newbie for asking questions (except SPS, and we all knows he's a big old softie somewhere in there: He named himself after the most cuddly guy ever on PTS. :) ).

You might want to have a look at stratics (http://lineage2.stratics.com) for a good SA guide, as well as the Library section of the official homepage for info on some interesting concepts.

Coz you made maior mistake as a poleuser. If you use pole - not quality but quantity counts. Pick up green or l.blue mobs. They give only little bit less exp but:
- you killing more of them in smallest part ever so in time you get mooooooore exp
- you will be hitting them almost everytime even with pole
- you will be crit. more ofthen than white/yellow ones (lance have pretty nice crit.rate itself).
This way i can pull 5-6 mobs at 66lev with 52 SE... (VR2 only :[) and my healer never run out of MP (to be honest i don't need heal while fighting - he heal me after group is dead (ocasinally while fightting when i lag a little or get multiple stun). And remember greater swift potion is your friend ;)

Also Two-handed sword with Focus SA is best single target weapon for dwarf. I have such since two weeks and it's rox in normal party - with SWS and BD i have 273 crit rate and crit hits for something like 1,4k dmg but very very often.
BTW if you have practise you can ealy hunt with pole in normal group - just learn how to don't wake up mobs ;)
>>with SWS and BD i have 273 crit rate and crit hits for something like 1,4k dmg but >>very very often.
Almost like a dagger w/o SwS :p.
Focus SA is the PvE SA for phis. attacks. Nothing comes closer esp. after DW/Fire Dance (VS if you have it, ofc).

GSAP on my level 40ish dorfs means the difference between pulling 6 mobs (aclarity) and healing 4-6 times a train, or pulling 10-12 mobs (GSAP) with 1-2 heals, perhaps one more when I'm finished off the single mob. It makes a world of difference that I don't think many people appreciate :)
