Orc Mistics - WTH

OK, I rolled me an Orc mistic, thinking it might be the best class to level up a hatchilng cause of their versatility.

I already have an orc Raider, so the slow run speed doesn't matter to me.

I was not prepared to see the Orc mistics cast as slow as they do. I mean WHAT THE HELL.........?!?

So my question is, those of you who went the path of the OL/WC, how in the world did you live though the 1st 40 levels before you could finaly slap an Acumen on your weapon?
Melee the mobs. 1-20 the zweihander works great. I use it now on ANY toon I level up. Call me crazy but I even use it for my mystics. 20-40 I used top D duals. Get as highly OE as you can afford then save on the shots. If you buy right you can usually get your money back when you're done with them.
I actually raided from 20-43, but some occasional soloing occured, not much though. Mostly duoing.
You get used to the cast speed ;)

lvl 1-20, find some mobs that you can onehit with drain ;) alt+tab mana out, repeat, hehe.
Most effecient I guess is running melee with some high patck weapon and draining life when you need it.
<--lvl 78, still don't have an acu weap O.O
You get a cast speed buff at 30, but yeah, you just sort of get used to it and I mostly meleed.
buy +2 wit tatts. i noticed when i did it on the PTS, it bumped my cast speed by about 50 points. (from 330 - 380)
<---66 OL no acumen weapon either :)

from 1 to 20 I had a mage weapon and robes, luckily it was during an event and a ton of ng bsps was dropping so I had almost unlimited amount, so i just drained my way to 20. Was fast and no problem what so ever.

from 20 to 40 I used d grade blunts and just stunned my way through everything only using drain to start off a mob to heal me some.

I tried my spellsinger homuculus for a bit, but I missed the ability to stun and such, so I have gone back to a blunt, the casting speed really doesn't effect me so much. Though I do stick to robes, heavy armor really really slows you down. :(
They're not proper mystics because they're orcs, so melee.

You have those masteries for a reason.
Get the best of both worlds: Club of Nature w/Acumen. One handed blunt so you can use a shield and get to use weapon skills. Woulda liked this option when I was C-grade.
I just got mine to lvl 34 :D. Basically all I did was hit with flame frost and then melee every single monster. Also popped lots of heal pots, haste and acumen from NPC's. And yea I raided through a couple of lvls too. Hardest thing was up till 30. After you ge that cast speed boost, even in hvy armor you still cast pretty fast. I can't wait to get to 40 though.

Edit: Yes, blunt rules and so does your stun. Use it a lot. I even stunned some raid bosses with it so it's great.
Without robes, your casting speed is terribly nerfed. The robes I selected were the devotion set. You get the cast speed raised by having robes plus 15% for the set.
A orc in robe = no no unless your in a big party. Seriously doubt you can form one before 40. 1-40 always stick to hvy armor and melee.

I used heavy armor till 54, then I switched to robes, it has been a total different character since then. I will say up to that point I did a lot of melee so the heavy armor was a plus, but now for an Overlord, robes are great! I mean at lvl 66, fully buffed, wearing avadon robes, if I turn on soul guard, I have 1300 pdef. Wish I could afford some A grade armor and see where my pdef would be with that. 150 mil for a freaking DC helmet, not going to happen anytime soon :(
Jute and an orc?

Thats just something i cann't get use to...No matter how many times i think of it.
Yea that price is ridiculous. Now I'm a nice guy, but if I happen to find a A grade helm on the ground, I'm not giving it back even if you have a halo above your head :D.

Do you play more in parties now that your wearing a robe? Or do you still solo and melee sometimes?

In my 50's now....still don't have an Acumen weapon. (Mana Up instead.) (Also Avadon Heavy and Demon Robe Sets - went Overlord.)

Orc Mystics are NOT NUKERS. We do not get any "Nukes". We have some DoT spells and one 'Drain'. (Besides our other buffs/heals.)

That drain spell takes a LOT of mp to cast. You are not going to be able to chain cast that drain unless you like sitting to regen very, very often. (Or have a whole PARTY of rechargers to refill you.)

You also have heavy armor mastery...wear that and you can take some hits from mobs. No need to panic cast sleep or drain.

Once you get the Acumen buffs, cast speed picks up a bit. Enough so that having additional cast speed increases isn't that big of a deal. (Extra cast speed is largely a non-factor for most of your damage spells. Useful but not critical.)

I solo a lot with a Wolf. (Its L50 now!) I have also used pretty much every single pet with a variety of characters.

If you want to raise a Hatchling. (Not power level one...) an Orc Mystic is an ok choice. You will definately want to go Warcryer however, as Overlord's buffs DO NOT apply to pets. (**** you NC Soft!)

That said, the Orc Mystic is NOT the "best" choice. Aggro is always the biggest problem with raising pets. (Make sure you get plenty of Blessed Pet Rez from the 7 signs!) Sleep is your best spell for keeping your pet alive in O!KRAP aggro situations, but you can still heal and buff.

First though choose your hatchling.

Twighlight - Cheap food, low damage/def, no specials.
Wind - Med Damage, High Def, Stun and UD skills.
Star - High Damage, Low def, "Mage" hatchling.

All Hatchling equipment is expensive, as is food for all but the twighlight.

Wind hatchling is best for most people who level with it. High def + UD is needed for keeping it alive if it gets aggro.

For the others, your gonna need to be able to regain aggro or heal it constantly.

That said these are your more pet friendly classes.

Prophet - Heavy armor, Buffs, Heals.
Paladin - Heavy Armor, Hate , Heal
Shillien Elder - Light Armor, Buffs, Heals
Tank classes (SK/DA/TK) - Heavy Armor, Hate
Orc Mystics - Heavy Armor, Sleep, Buff, Heal

Beyond that, look for low mob concentrations, with low aggro. 35-40(ish) is good to do in the main area of EG. (NO social mobs - No aggro.) Past 40 your on your own depending on your class and hatch...
My WC to be is at lvl 18 atm. I mainly stuck to enemies that were green or white. The tactic I used was to put them to sleep using Dreaming Spirit then Chill Flame or Venom them till one hit did them in. I imagine I'll keep using that tactic until I get something that works better or a group to lvl with.

Isn't that wicked slow? Granted mine is only 25 but still. My routine has been buff self, wack, wack, wack, wack and drain when necessary.

I'd agree with this one. Also, get like a sword or something with high critical chance, almost always better damage output over time than a lousy blunt :) (me thinks stun ain't worth the goofiness of a blunt)
I level all my 1-20 chars with long spear on green mobs.
Pole Party ftw!
It does help to have a prophet to heal you and get all the aggro. I lvled to 20 in 6 hours with breaks in between for eating and watching tv. I lvled every single character I have in TI inside ruins. Using the same long spear for everyone of em. It's really fast. Now after 20 is a different story.

I did robes all the way to 52+ now. Robes allow you to keep your own buffs going and draining. And honestly damage is not that big of a deal so long as you are not hunting things with crit passives. Also never went for blunts...used duals, daggers. Combo of HP duals/focus duals, and always a focus dagger.

I traded my friend for a about two weeks, I gave him my deadmans glory +health +4 and he gave me his duals tsu*sls +5. I didn't like it all, I missed the ability to stun constantly. Stun has helped so much, and it does land a good bit to make a difference, all the time its stunned, its not hitting me or someone in my party. And without the shield I took a lot more damage, for some reason on me I get a ton of shield blocks, especially since i have the shield defense buff. :)

Yeah, pretty darn slow, but effective until I got a decent weapon. I did find it to be faster than whack whack *die* ruuuuuuuuuuuun whack whack *die* ruuuuuuuuuuuun though. :)

I was using robes and still am, so maybe that was my problem in the first few levels. Not enough pdef.

I agree 100% with everything you said.

You left off the 2 very best pet leveling classes though. :)

Bishop - PARALYZE undead
Necro - Paralyze

IMO Bishop is absolutely hand down the best class for leveling hatchy's. They get some lower lvl buffs, including zerk, and their paralyze lands very well on Undead, and it has a faster cool down than the necro. To top it off, they can zerk the mob to lower it's pdef even more. :)

For best results, bring a couple friends, 2 or 3 hatchy's can really chew through some paralyzed undeads. It's even better if one of your friends is a full blown prophet, and the other has Hex.
Star hatchlings are cool, so naturally I think a PP/SE duo is best suited for them. Don't need to waste money on the armour or trying to heal - just root and nuke away.

Woops....I did forget the Bishop. Big heals are always good. As for the Necro, I think of them as a Nuker, so I didn't really consider them for pet raising.

Which is probably because I've been using pets as things you level *with* not just powerlevel. (Gimme a few more levels ant thatmay change. O_O)
