My SK is gonna get his A Grade lvl soon (hopefully) and I was wondering... Armor... Which one? Nightmare or Dark Crystal? I mean... at first, nightmare seems like the obvious choice... but I'm just not sure... And Dark Crystal Heavy sure looks good on Dark Elves!!! What would all of you guys and girls with more experience than me think? Please, any comment would be useful.
P.S. And while you're at it, please drop a note on tattoos too. Are they worth the trouble and money for an SK? And if so, which one(s)?
As for tats i would have to say +4 con -4 str +1 con -1 str
reasonable argument to -5 dex though, and not str.
Yeah... But what about the DC set? +18% Shield blocking (high as it is for us SKs, it's gonna be almost constant). And a little bonus to healing as well (+4% I think), though I rightly don't know what this means... Faster regen rate by 4% or a +4% plus on healing spells cast on you?
And tats... DC set has a -2 STR +2 CON, if i'm not mistaken. What about a +4 STR -4 CON and a -4 STR +4 DEX? That's a total of -2 STR +4 DEX -2 CON... Easier to get killed, true... but with the allready high DEX of DEs... you're gonna move like crazy, sheld block like crazy, hit and crit like crazy... and imagine what you can do with a Focus SA thrown in the mix...
Im going to borrow some stuff here from an Sk named "warefare".
1.paladin SK - nuker/fighter sk. Nerfed his str for con and nuked people to hel and back. He had a DLE health. He also wore Nightmere armor.
2. Nuker SK. Focus's on nukes, probably has a SOM. Also goes Nightmere for the xtra p.def.
3. omg p.atk SK. +5 str -5 con Talum heavy, and a DLE focus. Go beat [censored] up.
which of these most fits your playstyle?
Well, the third one probably... But... The Tallum Set has no shield :(
But really, what do you thing of my previous post? I always thought that hitting more often and doing crits more often is realy better than brute force, i.e. hitting for more damage... and being able to move faster and shield block more, not to mention the added p.def... couldn't be bad, could it?
As an SK, you are really going to be relying on your p.def and m.def to win you battles. Although you may like doing crits, those crits are not going to do you any good if you cannot reach the person i.e. mages and archers.
Nightmere set :
P. Atk. +4%
Sleep and Hold Resistance +70%
CON +2
DEX -2
With a shield of nightmare, 5% of the damage inflicted by the enemy will be reflected back upon him.
That sleep/hold buff is something that you will REALLY feel, trust me. when a nuker stands there and casts sleep on you 10 times without it landing, they will know pain.
So, if you want my opinion.
Nightmere heavy set.
DLE with health.
+5 con -5str.
Dun kill your dex cause that affects your shiled blocking and thats what an sk is all about.
But, doesn't an uped DEX mean more p.def? I wasn't thinking of nerfing my DEX... I was really thinking of raising it... Death to Archer classes :)
What you're saying about the hold/sleep resistance is true... very true, especially in these days where you can find a nuker under every rock... And the added 5% of damage reflected back doen;t hurt either :)
But, what about the +18% chance of blocking you get with a DC shield? Coupled with tats that raise your DEX... WOW! You're a blocking machine.
this evening i beat the crap out of a 29 elven knight all in best D grade with a lvl 27 cleric in best ng. it was pretty simple: root and nuke with wind attacks. after a true nuker nuked the censored out of him, didnt see him after that.
You are a tank not a DD, i had +4 con -4 str, but i removed it since it slowed down my killing speed too much.
I'm one of those wierd tanks that likes to solo :)
Actually, i really thought DEX affects p.def... along woth Shild Blocking. Isn't it true?
And it seems that Nightmare Heavy is the way to go for standing against nuker classes, as Darh Crystal Heavy is for standing against melee classes... I guess... I'm confused.
Im not a SK but I would go NM set, not because it has more pdef or anything (because really the pdef differences between the armors is negligable) but because of the patk bonus and sleep resistance. As a DE you have nice str so that bonus builds off of it pretty well.
Go with Maj Heavy set and Dragonslayer with +5 str +4 dex tattos. No joke here. It rocks in PvP, and in hunting. Remember Tanks Suck but it is no reason you can't get lots of kills in PvP.
Your HP is already low, and going -9 con for a DE TANK, is just rediculous. In PvP, HP > ALL, so dont BS about that other part. And an sk without a shield....well your not an sk without a shield.
Also, tanks do NOT suck in pvp. Tanks are one of the only classes that can kill archers on an even lvl. Ive sen an SK take out a SH, BD, and another SK all at the same time. No class sucks. ( exept all orcs :o)
The Happiest I have been with my DA is when I went -11 con +6str +5 dex
Your Pdef and Mdef make you just a surivible as a Destory or Glad in PvP, But the added patt and crit rate make it so you hit just as hard.
Also in PvP Tanks get targeted last. Why because they dont do enough damge to worry about.
Remember in PvP you will not be fighting other melee class that often so it does not matter as much that your hp sucks. 1 v 1 a nuker or archer will always win (unless you get lighting strike off)
For an SK or DA going +con is not such a good idea. Damge is what we are good at.
TK and Palies are defence Tanks where they have skill that can help others. TK cubics and Palies heals. So +con is great for them.
SKs and DAs have no skills to help others, but we can do damge.
personal exp I had a hero on my server burn cp pots when my kitty and I attacked them. I lasted a long time vs a high 76+ archer that is a hero.
I am using Tallum Heavy with a Tallum Blade. Speed Knight setup with an attack speed of 777+ full buffed (just a little less attack speed than a dagger)
"Your HP is already low, and going -9 con for a DE TANK, is just rediculous. In PvP, HP > ALL, so dont BS about that other part. And an sk without a shield....well your not an sk without a shield. "
HP means nothing to a nuker, and very little to a archer. Cp pot are Hp in a can. Learn your pots and how to use them.
Im sorry, but HP means everything. -11 con vs an archer? Have fun, your going to loose everytime.+5 con vs an archer, well thats more like it, that stun shot wont do so much now.
Hmm since using this setup my pvp count has almost tripled. And that is vs High lvl archers and nukers. In group pvp tanks are the last to be killed. Why? because with - str a tank does no damge and can not kill anyone, well maybe a healer, and most tanks go +con - str.
Now once a tank becomes the target it does not matter how much hp you have.
In the world of aden Nukers and Archers rule PvP, and the only thing you can do is supirse them with a few things they are not expecting. If you run up and start beating on a archer and doing good damge to they will run.
Run = not shooting, Not shooting = not killing your DDs. And if they start shooting you they are for sure not killing your DDs and Healers and this = protecting your team. If they treat you like a normal tank then you get +1 pvp. My SK friend and I have done this many times.
+dex = +crit rate, One crit from me is about 500pts of damge. Now this does not sound like much but on a nuker it hurts. Right now with 777 attack speed (yes I run zerk too) But no SA on my Tallum Blade (not rich). I attack fast and hard and I am the last to be a target. Plz note this is without my Kitty which has a 1200+ patt too.
I see no Point to Tanks in this game other than sneaking a few kills in. PvE who needs a tank? PvP tank lest effective class, Only maybe is a BH more unless in pvp and that depends on which type of tank you are comparing them to.
By the way a high lvl kitty is good for about 2 hits. One crit from a bow will one shot them.
Anyway, to the OP, wanna be a crazy [censored] and be a pwntp.atk with no defence... tank for the lack of a better word, or do you want to do the job that is assigned to your class and use high p.def armor and a shield.
You prolly dont want to hear this, but Doom heavy is a great set and you can make a nicely OE'd set for much less than the price of NM heavy or DC heavy. I'm guessing you might be tired of looking at the same old textures, but it really is a good set and I know more than one SK who's stayed in Doom well past hitting AG masteries.
As was pointed out above, if you are always dreaming of high crits and dishing out high damage, you simply picked out the wrong class. Of all the tanks out there, SKs are probably the most offensive, but tweaking them to boost their damage output will always come at a price, just like every other class.
I'm getting the impression you picked the wrong classes if you want to be a damage dealing crittin' machine..
I quote myself for emphasis.
:D You're right, if that's what I wanted I would have picked a different class. But all I'm trying to figure out is the different paths one may go, given the fact that SKs are the most offencive of tanks. Sneeking in and surprising some 1337 arcers or daggers in PVP is... WOOT! :D. So, I guess I'm trying to figure out how to get a little more offensive and fast without sacrifising my tanking heritage.

I have been thinking about that and yes, lots of SKs go with Doom long after their 60s. And you can't get tired of looking at Doom on SKs, they look so **** fantastic! Better looking armor on SKs (with the exception of Dark Crystal maybe). Over Enchanting may just be the way then... taking into acount how long it's gonna take me to get any A Grade armor anyway :)
You know you don't even play a tank. Tanks right now in this game the "True Tanks" are unless. Any other melee class can do just as well if not better. To be honest if you want to play a "real" tank play a TH or any other dagger with lure. They are the best tanks at high lvl, they can pull the mob that they want without pulling the rest, They take less damge, and they hold agro better.
The old school tanks are a dying breed. An alliance only needs one high lvl Tank with hp to tank the raid bosses when they can steall them from the farmers. Out side that there is not much use.
When is the last time anyone has seen the "stacked party" With one Knight, Buffer, Healer, BD, SWS, and 4 DDs? I see it only in a blue moon
