First Character

Hey guys,

I just got Lineage II and I'm already stuck :o. I've been reading about the classes and all but I don't quite understand what they mean in game terms. I made a Dark Elf Mystic to later turn into a Spellhowler since i heard they are good solo class... but I don't know if that is really what I want to play. Basically what I'm looking for is a class that can solo well(since that is what i plan to be doing), can still play a good roll in groups and can get groups often, and also PvP pretty well(since that is what my REAL interest is in). I doubt that there is a class that covers all those rolls but any tips would much be apreciated. I was looking into an Orc Tyrant or Destroyer... or possibley a Dark Elf Spell Howler.

SH can do all of those fairly well. Best choice, I'd say, if you require each of them.

Well from my understanding I can get to the max level without having to group.So grouping could be cut if there is another class that is better in PvP/Soloing and not grouping.

All three summoner types are strong PvPers, soloers, and group characters.

Hmm... doesn't the summon consume 30%, 60%, or 90% of the Summoner's total XP? That seems like an aweful lot just to have a pet out. Can the faster kills with a summon out make up for the 30-90% XP loss?

The summons take 5-10-15-90% xp. % and 10% are mostly for party, and 90% is for pvp (extreemy cheap, dont care if you need to summon one every 2-3 minutes).
The 30% one makes up for it's xp. It's liek a duo with realty strong mele, but you get more xp.

You're missing the 30% ones, which the PS primarily uses for solo PvE.

The experience penalty is harsh when you have to suffer it, but the 10% are frankly barely noticable for the superior levelling speed.

take a warcryer, or an orc fighter, they are slow moving killing machines. sh are great for solo, but groups usualy get you killed and sometimes leave u died on the floor leaving with your items.
any sort of a tank is good choice, but u wont solo before lvl 50 and even then u,ll have to rely on all sorts of buffs, anothet account and a computer are mostly a good solution here.

That is very rarely the truth. There's a lot more decent people in L2 than you think. It may happen with some groups, but far from with all.
AndSHs don't always die in groups. It very much depends on the healer and tank, so if those two (or more) play their part right, casualities won't happen (-very often. accidents happen). Then there are pure nuker groups, where the SH would fit in great, being the best PVE nuker. Mobs die quick, and with all the crow control skilled chars, it's rare that someone dies (unless you're CDL'ing - you'll learn about this later, if you don't know about it already).

Play what you want to play, not what others what you to play. What race/class interests you the most?

That's what he's asking Splatter - he laid out his priorities, and the short and long answer to that is "Orc mage, summoner, necro or SH".

So it seems like the majority has said SH or some form of summoner. I think SH is what I'm going to be. Group Nuker/Good Solo/and from what I've read fairly well at PvP. Thanks for the great responses! Now time to find me a good server! :D

If you want to do it legit, I seriously can not think of a better server to join. And if you didn't want to, I doubt you'd be posting on these boards. :)

We have a good manor, we mostly look down on training non-farmers (not a given on other servers - your gear is much more safe here), we have very active young raiding clans (and pick up groups), and we have a good manor.

Did I mention that we have a good manor?

As long as there is a decent amount of PvP I'm there :p. I've been playing on a bunch of servers just trying to get the feel of the game...so far I've noticed a lot of "Zfgagzfds" names and a bunch of people attacking NPCs for some reason. My in-game name should be Airik... if it's already taken I'll edit my post with the correct name ;).

Devianne has a lot of PvP and no one truly utterly overpowering top alliance (despite the server personality survey, which was made before that alliance voluntarily broke up to create more PvP), but three of them. Most of the top clans are active on l2blah, which is a good read to get a feel of our personality. ;)

I can vouch for Devianne. I read Devianne forums more than Teon forums (the server I play on currently) (on l2blah)simply because they have more interesting things to say, about more interesting things.
I haven't played on dev for a long time though, but from what I can gather from reading the forums, the server is very worth while playing on.

Well I've just spent basicaly all day trying to think up a name that hasn't been taken. All my old MMORPG games have been taken and I can't think of anything else....the hardest part of an MMO is thinking up a good name :p. Well hopefully by tomorrow I'll throw something together so I can join. Thanks for the great advice :D.

Yes, I had that same problem, its good to see you're at least thinking about it. One quality that makes me hate farmers is their toon names-- you know they don't care for their characters, so you'll just see horrible names like-- dusjgdf, Iilliliilllii, bgbgbgbg, OOOXMXOOO, figfiglklk.... :p

Or even names with numbers at the end... Put some effort into it!

After many hours of thinking I decided to just go with Kozmo. So far I got to level 8 and I met this really nice Alt who gave me 200k Adena and 5k SP to buy all my gear and spells :). Needless to say I'm a happy camper with all the best Skills/Gear at level 8 hehe.

SH is an awesome solo class, and in much demand for raids etc, but for party and pvp SPS edges it out with sleep cloud (party) and cast speed (pvp). Necro is great soloer and PVP.
Ive only dabbled with archer class but they seem to be very good for PVP / solo play.

well...i'm an archer (Silver Ranger) i'm lvl 65, i've soloed about 95% the whole way...i can solo for 2 hours self buffed with healing pots, and then i sit for 10min, and do it agian.
silver rangers are great for PvP, speed...and with the right buffs i can 3 shot high lvl nukers. human archers are stronger and have more hp, but not near as fast.
I'll suggest an archer, good soloer, good grouper, good PvPer, and fun to play. can get a little expensive to play, with arrows and ss, but worth it cause you get 100% of xp and drops.
