The problem is when its not icing on the cake anymore, lol.
There has been good and giving events in the past, they were fun and rewarding...now they reintroduce them, getting peoples hopes up and it turns out to be quite the dud.
Its actually worse because the current setup favors griefers that can silent move everywhere kill people and get rabbits at the same time out of very high level areas.
I had good fun last rabbit event (though the rabbits were somewhat rare, but when you found them it was good stuff, millions of XP, enchant scrolls and whatnot), this one just isn't fun :(
Yeah, I know what you're sayin. Show people a good time, and they tend to start expecting things. So when they half a** and event it's a kind of downer for everyone.
Still though, I try to look at things from the point of view that it's still a good thing, because the alternative is just another day of grinding, or whatever suits you to do on non-event days.
I would much rather have a day of grinding, because now I can't even go grind because so many people are out looking for rabbits, and alot of them are either frustrated (and therefor prone to grief to vent) or are just outright griefers. Very annoying :(
I've given up playing either way and just gone playing some low level toons...did manage to target one rabbit while out, but it was down in back of Dark Omens Catacomb :( Oh joy.
I haven't bothered looking for the rabbits, or been disturbed by them in any way (yippee).
:) I just managed to pull two very smooth parties together for a pick up raid (best I've had), which should mean the event wasn't keeping too many people tied up. > : )
I logged in, jumped on my strider, and took an Aden tour with a /target rabbit macro. In 20 minutes I found 4 rabbits. Unfortunately I'm lvl 72 and a rabbit is worth all of 0.3% I guess...thats...good.

the lame exp and sp would not be bad at all, if Aden was crawling with bunnies.
I had a lot of initial success. But for the past 4 hours or so, I have not found a single one. I just see people comming and going on striders.
Im extremely hardcore about these hunting events. And even I barely milk anything out of them. I am sincerely hoping the spawns increase over the course of the event, or maybe there are some surprises around the corner. Because as it is now. 20 minutes of exping will far excede an entire day spent hunting rabbits, even if you are very successful at finding them.

I'm going to go ahead and quote everything and make a million posts because most of you are not all there. And the alternative to grinding on the same mobs is to run around aden trying to find a rabbit, and from what i hear its 150k xp.

I don't know what happened, NCSoft has really good people working for them in the Lineage 2 department...but for some reason events has seen a rise and decline. First rising with the first bunny event, then rising in quality for the most part...then came the christmas event and onward and things went downhill.
Its not that the events themselves are bad, its the effort vs. reward thats gone out of wack.
Oh and NCSoft, please don't listen to the whole "oh noes, too many enchant scrolls", you can't have too many enchant scrolls...enchant scrolls are good for the economy and introducing alot of them usually ends up *raising* the prices in the end, not lowering them.

I'm so happy there are people with sense on the boards
Yeah some ******* whined about their precious castle not making enough adena and so ruined the rest of the event for all of us. I say find out who it was and boot them out of that castle then there won't be castle profits to worry about.
Whoever the castle owner was who started the initial complaint, they had a very valid, if very shallow complaint about how the pumpkin event was eating into their profits. There is no doubt that for them, they were not being able to enjoy doing what they had enjoyed doing (making money on overpriced enchant scrolls) because there were simply too many enchant scrolls.
And the truth behind the enchant scrolls is that there simply is not an infinite demand for them. The point where people being ot stop desiring enchant scrolls is when they reach the maximal safe enchantment level on their items, at which demand for the scrolls begins to taper off as more and more people view using further enchants as simply too risky. Thus the drop in enchant scroll prices actually did occur, and the castle lords who were using the sale of scrolls produced as final products from their manor system were bringing in less revenue. In the case where a castle lord was running close to not making any profit between buying back fruits and sellign enchant scrolls, anyhing which would reduce the price of the scrolls would have quickly turned their books red, forcing them to either continue running the manor system at a loss, or simply stop running it. Thus was the result reached during that discussion.
However what the castle owners failed to understand was that the point reached during the event, was a likely a point that the market would have reached anway even without the event, only it would have been further in the future as market saturization would have taken more time with a smaller influx of scrolls.
Now if NC were to make an event which gave out blessed enchant scrolls, then there could be no doubt that an infinite demand would exist.
Actually currently most enchant scrolls are at an all time high. People get more and more money and old gear and they will keep risking overenchant to get those elusive high end weapons and armor.
Its good for the game because it recycles armor and weapons, and the more is used, the more people will keep on needing, its terribly addictive.
yeah it is, similar as in a casino, a dude wins a big lottery, well he will keep, playing hoping to get that same or even bigger lottery, not realising his error only after he had lost 4 times his initial win, but alos many of his friends and a family in distress.
okay i went a wee bit far, but the sensation is the same. so beware peeps, beware of the curse of success. :D
I believe they toned down the rewards to events because people complained that they crashed a lot of markets in the game. I think when they toned down the rewards they thought they were doing what people wanted, but as it turns out this is just more proof that you people just cannot be satisfied. You want a healthy market where if you play it right you can make adena, or do you want an event so rewarding that it actually shuts the rest of the game's aspects down so people JUST hunt event stuff?

If you mean that to me personaly, I never complained about the Pumpkins. I love it. I miss it.
If you're talking about the people in general, yeah, you know there is such factor as you're paying for the game, it's nice when Devs every now and then throw a bone to their customers, don'cha think?
And this is why rewarding events should be slotted between a few of these - I'm sure the next market crasher is right around the corner. I personally think events that require you to go out of your hunting way should be rewarding (especially balanced EXP/SP rewards would be swell), and the ones you do while hunting should not yield more than a nice trinket (like this one).
And no, the complaint wasn't about manor lords not making profit, but about legit players being unable to craft their stuff for two to three months after the event - provided they did not want to buy materials from a player. Example: the effort to get Varnish was doubled to tripled on Devianne after the series of market-crashing events, depending on which seed you were trying to run.
I think people just need to accept that there must be a balance between the kind of events, and worthless events are better than market crashing ones because you can always just ignore them (except Christmas, the drop block was lame beyond reason).
well the castle owners are almost all on the forums, as well as the people with them, so thats why they are loudest. anyway loved the pumpin event a lot, others, when unable to sell their own enchanting scrolls, blew their own stuff by OEing. those were some funny moments. he he he.
Events need certain amounts of staff to prepare. The larger your customer base, the more of that extra staff you can afford.
How much staff is required to toggle a script that generates random amounts of rabbits all over the map? Are you implying that the gm staff is spending their entire day manualling spawning these rabbits? This event is a joke.
We voted it down during the poll a few months ago so what does nc do? They bring it back with LESS rewards. Don't talk that bs to us, we know what nc is capable of. This event is a slap in the face.
Well, the start off is really lame, but wait till the event is over, then its time to blame em. As the event is now, its just lame for me. Maybe lower lvls enjoy it, but even if i find a rabbit alone, the reward is bad. 10k SP is nothing for me and 180k exp, lol! Yesterday we took down commander rift boss with 8 ppl (7+1 boxed sws without weapon). I got 377k exp, that was 0.51%.
btw for the 10k SP, did anyone got something else then 2x medium SP scrolls?
Bring back some Raidevent NC, it was so funny with the mass plando spawn in oren the first time.
This event is totally rediculous. The only person I have found that said they killed one said it was in the apostate?? Also, any rabbit that spawns around anything that gives decent spoils will probably be killed by those people we arent allowd to mention .
The rabbits are..lame I guess, but it is giving me a chance to level my sin eater without worrying that its going to die, same for my hatchling. I can finally relevel my clannies strider back to 55 since an unfortunate accident of respawning aggro mob during summoning.
The whole point is that we are so small that we can't afford the extra staff for cool events.
what are your facts? we have what....8 servers that are pretty much full according to the sign on screen. Also NCSOFT does a crap job of advertising the game in NA, so let's punish the player base?
NC Soft could EASILY have an equal, if not larger, user base than Japan if only they seemed to give a [remoged]. The NA servers seem more demanding, yes, but thats because we get [removed] on. I mean come on, the game started with just like 8 servers and people have been complaining about lag and logging in for like a year now. Its obvious to me that the NA community is hungry for this game, its just that we get nothing but table scraps.
My point is that our service here is worse than that in Korea (30 /fuller/ servers?) and Japan (11, probably also fuller) servers.
I doubt that L2NA is much of a cash cow - it can't give that much with the comparitively low number of players.
Or maybe it's true and they're all lazy ********, and that's why we've been getting more and more events.
Not only is your point invalid, ITS AN OUT RIGHT LIE.
Lineage 1 na, with only 3 servers (one of them with usually less than 100 PEOPLE ON AT ANY GIVEN TIME) have 3 times the amount of events our l2 service has.
We arn't tiny, we arn't insignificant, and even if we were, nc is the MICROSOFT of MMORPGS. They have money to spare, and they have been throwing it at LINEAGE 1 for over SEVEN YEARS.
They have OFFICES IN MULTIPLE COUNTRIES AND STATES. This game isnt run by some mom and pop game service, its INTERNATIONAL. You are doing nothing but purpetuate the lie that poor events are the players fault and that we should all grant patience and grace to what you are basically calling a poor down trodden company when in reallity it is a corporate GIANT.
Yes enchants might be at an all time high (though this isn't the case for any enchant scroll other than A and S grade weapon enchants on my server, which is also convienently correlated with a larger number of players owning these grades of weapons while the number of scrolls available for purchase has not increased witht he increase in weapon ownership), but this is because of the lack of events which would drop enchant scrolls.
Could anyone, who doesn't plan on ebaying more adena should the enchantment fail on the last weapon they own, when they have no other supply of adena rationally be expected to risk breaking the weapon anyway, or can we accept that this person is not going to send themselves into the poor house. People might risk enchanting this weapon or that armor when they know that even if it fails, they will be able to replace it, but when the item cannot be replaced, they can be expected not to risk enchanting it. So if anything, this doesn't lead to items being recycled, what it leads to are useless items which people feel that could lose without being harmed and likely would have been indifferent about selling, which are going to be the ones enchanted. As such, enchant scroll might very well not have a significant effect on the level of item turnover in this game.
In conclusion, the more items which break, the more risk averse rational people will become, the smaller will be the demand for enchant scrolls.
Is it a lie that we've been getting more and more events? In fact, an event always on the horizon?
Whether the rewards or not are appropriate - the staffing certainly isn't sufficient to provide for really cool events (with continuous GM attention on every server, which any really cool event needs). We do not have the power to introduce new items to the game (which unique events need).
I don't know what they do for Lineage I, and I honestly don't see how it relates to what is done on Lineage II. I'm pretty convinced that whether it's good or not (and insignificant events are good - events aren't here to make the game easy, they're here to break up the grind with a pleasant surprise), they do what they can within their limits.
But of course, unless we get an official statement or raid their offices, we won't know that.
Its just anoher disapointment from NCSOFT. I have written this paragraph 4 times now and keep deleting it. One I dont want it to get locked. The other is this thread has turned into the same argument about the eceonomy every other post has turned into.
Some people have tons of adena and don't undertand why its hard for others to make adena. Then there is the other side who thinks its so difficult anyone who has adena got it illegaly.
So basically every time there is an event there will always be players who either hate it or love it. It either ruines the economy for some, or helps others make that little extra to get thier new gear.
I said it already at the last event: Better no event than such a miserable event.
Three rabbits on one server to designate as an event makes me simply angry.

I spent a few hours hunting rabbits yesterday. I set my goal at 5 rabbits just to see of maybe it made a difference after killing 5. But it didn't. I started the Day with 61% and ended with 62% and killed 5 rabbits. Lost xp from fighting someone who obviously thought they saw the rabbit first LOL. But definatley not worth the trouble hunting down.
I don't see the events as a way to make money I see them as a way to obtain things I normally wouldn't be able to. With the rarity of the items in this event im not going to waste my time running around "hopping" to find a rabit that I can kill for 30k xp. If this thread has turned into an economy thread its because one person wants to use it as an excuse.
The whole point is that we are so small that we can't afford the extra staff for cool events.
Actually Lineage 2 in the west is pretty big, nearly 80K subscribers is alot. Not to mention there's no dev team they have to pay, its all developed in Korea.
The are rehashed events, so its not like it needs a team of 20 people to do. No offense to NCSoft, you do a good job bringing them out and keeping the information flowing, the endresult is just somewhat lacking :(
Heh. :p I don't know, maybe I'm underestimating people? I think all these things are difficult, depending on who you ask.
Considering that most of the GMs seem to have some really big trouble in basic areas, I'd be honestly surprised if things went easily and smoothly.
And yes, the balance is definitely the hard part to hit - I'm just not bothering with this event, and I think if people who don't need it did the same, it might turn out that there are enough bunnies for those for which the rewards are good.
If everyone, however, frustratedly hunts down every bunny they don't even really want, things are just going to get worse on their own.
But to make a good event, changing mob drops is not sufficient - you need someone to design and balance unique items, someone else to set up a challenge that can be undertaken by all players without getting jammed or disturbing their levelling excessively, you need to think about all the idiotic things a player could do, you need to find a balance between high and low level players, between fast and slow killingor running classes, etc.
Of course, we have not seen such an event, and won't.
And that's what I'm saying we're lacking the money for.

if they are already setting up the evnt why would it be trouble? then maybe ncsoft should stop all events cause they dont have enough manpower
I thgouht it would have taken a bit longer before seeing someone suggesting anything close to events needing to be both nonrival and nonexclusive in order to be well designed events.
Yea .. Lin1 !! Why cant NC have a simple Lin1 style drop event (say 2-3x drop rate on adena / mats and say 5x chance of a full item drop) , or like Lin1's bunny event (should be no bunnies in dungeons, u want xp go dungeon, u want bunny - go field hunting) - where the bunnies dropped lots of potions (can use buff scrolls even for L2) and a chance at a enchant / blessed enchant scroll .. come to think of it .. i havnt even seen blessed enchants being sold .. they are way too rare.
Rivallry is not a problem - the issue is the way the rivallry plays out. We all saw level 65+ players ganking the floor out from under lower level players during a raid boss event, because drop rules had been modified to encourage this (for some obscure reason).
A good event is interactive. It doesn't just involve slightly modified hunting conditions (not much of an event, is that?) but something to do.
The battle tournament, for one, is definitely an event, although until the addition of teleports to the winner largely irrelevant to the majority of the population - and thus, for the majority of the population, not a good event.
But of course, I'm all for events that address people by turns - you are well aware of that. Nonetheless, balancing is difficult.
Which event has been kinder to tanks than to nukers?
A good event is an event that is fun and feels rewarding in some manner. And if it has a limited target audience (like battle tournament), then it should be at any great cost of others.
Well, I don't think an event needs to be rewarding - except if you count fun as a reward in itself, in which case I'd say we'd almost agree.
I just wouldn't call things like the medal event much of an event at all - it certainly doesn't feel like an event, more like upgraded play time.
I think we play L2 cause its fun and challenging, then we get the events to break from the norm (grind grind grind), yet the event isn't any different except you just spent hours looking for a poetential rabbit, that you don't find anyway or a II.
to me the only real TRUE event was the one with the raid bosses outside town, I dont see it as an event if it only adds somthing to the everydday grind intead fo taking yourself away for a break from it
Id say the pumpkin event was a good example of how you can have an everday grind event, and still have it be fun. Since it had a bit of a twist at the end.
But I think that we will not have truly "fun" events until they devote more time designing content that is simply event based. Like event quests. Mobs that are just for events. Items that you can only get from the quest. Like specific masks, or collectables. Maybe even some sort of fun consumable, like fireworks.
It is possible to make fun events from minimal effort. But I think they will always be minimaly fun.
The problem is that NC korea is doing all the designing, and they either arent putting much effort into it, or NC NA isnt spending any time translating and coding it.
Purely as an example. I picture a haloween event where you get a quest to kill a raid boss (one desinged specificaly for the event) the raid boss spawns frequently here or there. You get the quest item for contributing in a decent way to his death. Or being in a party that does damage to him. You turn in the quest item for maybe a selection of items, maybe buff scrolls, maybe halloween masks. Maybe you could get a quest to go from town to town trick or treating, and give the candy you get to a quest npc to get items.
something like the above compared to
GMs spawning mobs that already exsist, that are progremmed to drop buff and enchant scrolls. And then spawning raid mobs that already exsist, and have them drop buff scrolls and enchants, and dyes and so on. and having everyone franticly try to beat everyone else at picking them up.
allright have an event where for a day or so experience, drops are doubled or tripled. that would be nice. and if possible do that just after the tuessday maintenance, when there are least eula asia programs violators least present. (having trouble with politicly correct terms at the moment).
have to agree that the rabbit population is "very rare".
NC reduced drop rates from mobs, cuz "farmers"
event drop rates/rewards such low, cuz "farmers" can put in millions "nectars/whatever"
for new toons its still impossible to get D grade gear when needed lowbie set parts cost 2m + ... and to make keymats drop... u prolly hit B grade before.
events were always good way to make some easy cash .. but after "pumkins" it stopped.
raids still impossible on most servers, cuz farmers ^^
what do NC think where the ppl get 100m+ for a stupid helmet ?
just give us the cashflow back and all be fine ...
