I know its slow right now but I figured I try anyways. Raidboss parties are nice change of lvling fast. I like to share my exp with my pet wind hatchling, but lot party members afraid it will leech total exp from boss than just mine.
I did some forum searches and I have yet to find information to separate fact from fiction. So if anyone knows the answer I really appresiate the information.
Weirid, sometimes when hunting with my dog in party i was geting a tiny amounts of xp (mb 6oxp and 0 sp on a mid 30th char in a cata). THis was happening when he was xitting mobs more then I did, for example when 2 mobs were pulled and he asisted some1 else. while others didnt had such an low xp.
I did a RB yesterday with a group and the tank had his Hatchling of Wind out and it pretty much stayed beside me (the healer) the whole time b/c I think he thinks that as long as the Hatchling is out and he the character is doing some damage that the Hatchling will take exp from him andf not from the group as long as the Hatchling isn't doing any damage to the RB So I suggest you try that and see if it works :)
It wont. As Maline said, they get exp based on damage they do. But they don't really do any significant damage to a RB in the first place because of the low dmg they have even with pet ss. I will be testing it first hand in a few days after I reach 40 with my two new characters. I know what exp I get when I do him in party without pets, but this time I will do it alone with 2 characters same level and 2 pets same level as characters (lvl 40 :)). I am almost certain the 2 characters will get most of the exp and pets only a small portion because they lvl faster than regular characters.

Nah hatchlings only gain exp if they attack the target some.
So far the best thing to do for lvling my hatchling is investing in better weapon and gear. Blew 7mil this weekend on it. Little Alex is almost lvl 37 lol
What are you people talking about? Pets only leech exp from the owners share! thats why when you are in a large group, where your share per mob is low, you get 0exp/sp most of the time, while your party certainly gets full exp. Sheesh, you ppl answer threads without actually ever having owned a pet??
Acually I own a hatchling and I was answering my questioned based on something that happened in a raid yesterday with someone who was wondering the same thing as this guy! And all I did was tell him what this guy did yesterday but I wasn't sure if it would work or not! I think maye you should read people's answers first before you jump down throats
I own both a wolf and hatchling and have never had the 0 experience thing happen to me - thus the first reply, and the admittance to ignorance when I was corrected.
Our little raid group (non-clan) has prob taken 35 bosses in the past 9-10 days.
When we go after higher bosses--some bring out pets (I don't have one).
Those with pets believe the pet gets part of their exp only.
Here's the point--what could we possibly be talking about?
A rb will give me at the low end 140k exp--upwards of 300+k--depending on boss.
Even if I was "due" say 200k exp and because of a pet got 198k of exp--I would credit the pet with helping bring down the boss!!!!!
OP should find a raid group that's less **** and use his pet if he wants to.
Folks get too caught up in miniscule details in this game--PLAY IT!
If group u are in r seriously worried that the pet somehow gets 1/10 of the total exp from rb (which is ludicrous)--find a more appreciative group to party with!
PS. I will admit we have been taking RB's in the 30's (36 was highest). Perhaps with uber bosses it makes more of an impact depending on answer to OP's question--if that is the case, I'm full of crap and should shut up! Always a possibility :)

lol thanks for the suggestion, about less **** groups. Im a nuker going PS and I gained lot exp while partispating in these raid boss hunts. I think they are awesome and fun way to exp up. Yeah I pulled out my hatchling, waited till minions were dead then sent him in to attack. 1-2 members had a heart attack over it so I finally put it away.
Ill ask in next group im in, hopefully wont run into more players like that.
Most people shouldn't be **** about it, When I'm the healer in the RB group I'm not **** and I don't even care abotu the pets coming out and if they die I usually use a rez scroll on them if needed b/c I don't want the person losing that pet forever :( So basically just ask the group if it is ok to bring out your pet ahead of time before you get to the RB and have fun :)

As Dervon said Pets only leech XP from their owners. Not from the whole group.
Sorry, I didnt mean to flame any1, its just that things like this are the first pet owners notice (or so I believe). Let me make a small analysis of how pets gain their exp:
Fist of all pets can only leech exp from the pet owners share. Simple test to verify this: Duo with a friend, and kill a certain mob, note exp gain. Summon a pet, have it assist in killing an identical mob, then note exp. your petless friend will get exactly the same exp he got the 1st time, while the owner gets less.
The difference between baby pets/sin eaters/servitors and hatchlings/wolves is in the way the exp they leach from your share is determined. baby pets, servitors and sin eaters leach a percentage of your share of exp, no matter what. So if your share off a kill is 1000 exp, and you have a cougar (10%exp leech) you will get 900exp.
With hatchlings and wolves it is a little different. They get exp based on the damage they dealt to a mob, up to a maximum, which is your share in the kill. This is very simple to understand when you are not in a party: kill a mob while your pet stands by watching, and you get same exp as if the pet wasnt even there. Have your pet kill a mob alone (lots of heal pots, I know) and you'll get 0exp.
When in a party, a hatchling/wolf is limited to the amount of exp it can leach off a mob, by the amount that is your share in the group's exp. Example: when in a duo, if your pet deals equal or more of 50% damage to a mob, you will get 0 exp.
Conclusion: A pet is beneficial to a party no matter what. If the pet does nothing, its presence doesnt affect the group. If the pet helps in any way, the party benefits from it. The pet owner, however, ALWAYS takes the FULL adena and exp loss.

Seriously--I'll bet there are fun groups on every server. Find them--they'll be the ones making jokes and sounding relaxed. When you encounter them--rec them, carry your wait, join the banter, add them to your friends list--they'll invite you back.
